QUESTION:
I am currently dealing with a condition that my health care providers have labeled as "acid reflux" though I don't quite have all of the symptoms and I feel this is the best they can come up with!!  I am not content to "pop pills" and as a result, I have been researching various nutritional philosophies and therapies and am curious what your opinion on some of these are - specifically can you comment on the Diamonds' "Fit for Life" philosophy as well as "Juice Plus"?  If I have missed precious issues that deal with either or both of these topics, could >you direct me to such information?

Thank you for your question;
In order to be more thorough and more accurately help I would like to know what symptoms you are exhibiting?

As for the Diamonds "Fit for Life Philosophy" and "Juice Plus." Almost any program will work for a certain number of people. The only way to know if it is the one for you is to try them, which I personally do not recommend, but it's your money and you must make your decisions as to what is best for you.

The "Fit For Life Philosophy" may or may not have some validity but doesn't come from scientific or historical facts. I have not read the whole book and base this on the small part that I read and felt it unnecessary to read further... I find that there is some validity in a small portion of their premise but not a lot... I'm sure that what they purport will work for a certain number of people as just about any program will... There is one big flaw in their plan, insufficient minerals and vitamin balance in the foods they mix together, which will more than likely create more obesity in some and open a person up for more illnesses...

I can tell you that Juice Plus is missing several important nutrients as is most supplements. Our body's blood plasma is made up of 84 minerals and trace minerals and most supplements fall way short of those. Will it help, yes, adding the minerals to your life will help ward off illness and obesity. Will it balance your system? I think not! If you add just a few minerals and/or vitamins that throws the others off balance... I and many other alternative health practitioners know that when our body has a balance of minerals and vitamins our body's will function more efficiently and will not have the cravings that create a large number of obese and sick people. I believe as does my friend Wayne Garland, N.D./herbologist, that to be balanced you need the whole 84 minerals and trace minerals. As for you Acid Reflux, if it exists, and I have no symptoms to base that on, you will do well to simply make sure you eat very small meals several times a day to avoid the overload that may or may not cause acid reflux... You will need to avoid dairy products as they are a number one instigator for reflux, you can switch dairy to soy products for a healthy alternative. Those two steps could very well eliminate your problem. If it doesn't, you will need to add daily enzymes/probiotics to help digest your foods properly and will add another element to preventing reflux. If it is not acid reflux it could be the forerunner of something more sinister?

To broach the subject fairly I would need to know what symptoms you are exhibiting in order to give a better approach to your problem...

I do know that more than 80% of health problems disappear when people balance their daily minerals and vitamin intake. I've watched hundred become healthy and happy with those two simple steps.. My choice of the two supplements are Life Transfusion Ionic Liquid Minerals  and "MegaNutrient MultiFactor formula"... The enzymes/probiotic is "Primal Defense"...

For a more accurate protocol reply with your symptoms that sent you to the doctor...

Thanks for your informational response.  Thanks also for taking the time to read my e-mail.  Here's a bit more about my condition.
 
I first went to see my MD last September with a constricting feeling in my throat and dull pain in my chest.  This does NOT feel like the heartburn that I knew so well throughout my 4 pregnancies.  Sometimes the pain seems to locate itself in the right side of my chest, sometimes the left, and sometimes it feels as though it could be right at the sphincter between my esophagus/diaphragm.  Sometimes I feel pain between my shoulder blades, though I have had some minor back muscle problems in my life and this may or may not be related.  I could not connect the feeling with any particular food intake, even water (particularly cold) would evoke these symptoms.  He ran several blood tests (all basically normal), did an EKG in the office (basically normal), sent my for an upper GI (normal) then finally for an endoscopy (some evidence of acidity - redness/swelling).  The specialist rated my damage at a 1-2 with 4 being the worst.  He basically treated me like a number, had very little time or interest to share with me and I felt like he really didn't care!!  He wrote me a script for Nexium (which I have taken for a month now with very little, if any, improvement) and said that if things didn't get better he could prescribe another drug for motility.  I left the office knowing that I wouldn't go back and that I wanted to investigate my options with alternative medicine/nutrition.
 
I basically eat a fairly well-balanced diet (consisting of whole grains/fresh fruits and vegies every day, very little red meat (rarely)/ raw nuts/dried fruits, low-fat dairy, etc...)   I had begun making the switch from dairy milk to soy and after reading your initial response to my question, I have completely stopped drinking regular milk.  I do not feel that I ever ate terribly large meals, but I have tried to make them even smaller.  I am 5 ft. 6 in. and weigh about 128 pounds.  I exercise on my ergocycle 30 min./3 times a week  and play wallyball/racquetball once a week.  Most importantly, I am healthy spiritually!  I have a vibrant relationship with the Lord and feel that my stress level is relatively low (though being a mother of 4 and wife of a busy executive takes its toll).

I'm sorry your doctor was so typical. When I started working with doctors in 1975 there was a different attitude and they cared about their patients. It is almost impossible to find one that cares about you as a patient these days... The insurance situation has created monsters of them...

It sounds very much like you have acid reflux and probably a hiatus hernia that has exacerbated the problem... Pregnancy heart burn was different, as you had not yet created scar tissue, which makes for a different type of pain once the scar tissue grows and sears the nerves in that area of your esophagus and stomach... The scar tissue also makes it hard for the sphincter muscle to close as it needs to do... Nexium or any antacid has too many side effects for me, and it kills the natural flora in your system. Those possible problems created by antacids is caused from the lack of acid in the stomach, which is what nexium and other antacid type medications stop the body from making... That acid is required in order to digest foods properly... When the intestinal flora is imbalanced all kinds of problems can and usually do occur... It's imperative that you replace the natural flora with probiotics... You will need to take daily probiotics for weeks to repair what the nexium has killed... But the small meals are necessary as this could be a lifelong problem and more scar tissue grows each time you have an attack of acid reflux and smaller meals makes those attacks less likely to happen... Never lay down after eating, for at least a couple of hours, as the reflux can occur easier... If you balance your body's minerals I think you will notice a difference in all areas of your body as well as help minimize damage from stress and the reflux...

I raised four kids so I know you have stress that you don't even realize it there... 4 kids can create a lot of stress and trying to be a good wife and mother creates more stress. The hardest jobs in the world... I remember locking myself in the bedroom and telling my kids that I needed some time alone or they would regret it later... So do not underestimate your stress level just because you don't notice it...

You were on the right road by switching to soy from regular milk...
