=> ASK LENA Q & A EDITION!
============================

This week has two question and answers. I usually do one but both require very short answers so figured it would be good to kill two birds with one stone, sort of...

Today's Motivator is so poignant and something we all forget until it is brought home, read Life Sparkles!

I am answering health questions to the best of my ability using what I gleaned from 20-years as a Medical Office Nurse and Administrator along with my education in
nutritional and alternative modes. I am not a doctor and you should not think of me as one.

Q & A is for your information and education only and in some instances to give you a different perspective on a particular problem!

My wish for you, in the use of the information gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in  addition to...

I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope that will be your attitude as well!

QUESTION #1:

Hi Lena,
My husband has been having trouble seeing for some time now.  The diagnosis was thickening of the fluid behind the lens due to nerve weakness and he was given laser treatment. They said it could take from a few months to two years for the fluid to drain. It is about two months now. He says there is very slight improvement. Is there any natural or herbal medication he can take to stop the deterioration of vision and improve his eyesight?

Thank You,
Shaila

ANSWER:

Shaila thank you for this question... I'm sure your husband is living in torture waiting to see results... Tell them there is hope...

That is a form of glaucoma and is treatable...(drs. do not actually tell you it's glaucoma) my brother was diagnosed with glaucoma (pressure) along with cataracts and had many laser surgeries without satisfactory results. He had been going through that for almost two years before he mentioned it to me, while he was visiting us he then told me what was going on... I immediately pullout my herbals and started him on our Vision formula and liquid minerals and you can read his fantastic results from his own handwriting by Clicking Here

The lack of minerals starts the downhill process of our organs, veins and arteries and continues to spiral unless corrected, hence the reason for the minerals. The veins in our eyes are so small they start to atrophy (harden) and close down unless proper nutrients are taken to stop the process. The jelling is the beginning of the atrophy process... Correction then needs to take place even after adding the minerals to the daily regimen - the necessity of the herbal formula to repair and nourish...

I'm quite confident those two things will give him some great results as it has for thousands of others... Some have even done away with glasses because the two work so well... EVERYONE should be taking ionic minerals these days as our foods can't give us what we need in that department...

Hope this answers your question,
Let me know if I can help...
Lena

QUESTION #2:

Hi Lena.
Is it okay to take Milk Thistle on an empty stomach?
I know I should take one in the morning but I can't eat till around 11:30.

Thanks Lena.
You have been a great help.
W.P

ANSWER:

It's okay but some people become nauseous when taking it on an empty stomach, so you can only try it and see how you react...

FYI: Adverse and possibly reactions have been reported when taking Milk Thistle, such as intermittent episodes of sweating, nausea, colicky abdominal pain, fluid diarrhea, vomiting, weakness and collapse. If any of these occur it's probable that you don't need the milk thistle or your need something much stronger.

Hope it's a favorable reaction for you,
Lena

PS: Something that most people fail to do is get sufficient water when taking herbs and therefore cannot receive the best results. Just want to remind everyone, when taking any kind of herb or supplements you MUST drink plenty of filtered/purified water with them to optimize absorption!

LIFE SPARKLES

"Nobody, as long as he moves among the chaotic currents of life, is without trouble," said psychologist Carl Jung.

I received a letter from a woman who responded to something that I wrote. Listen to her unusual response to trouble:

"Your excerpt from your book *Touching Moments* really spoke to me. I have discovered the gift that can come from adversity. In January my husband, who is in his 50's, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. My whole world was turned upside down and I was devastated. It was a relief to know finally what was wrong with him, but also I am all too well aware of the grim reality of the hideous effects of such a disease.

"Sometimes it is really frustrating as well as heartbreaking to see
the way he struggles to communicate and express himself. In addition seeing him standing in front of his closet, not sure why he is there but knowing there was something he needed to get out of it, tears me apart.

"However, this disease has brought us closer together. I find
myself cherishing moments with him which I might never have given a second thought to. I find myself letting the dishes wait if he suggests that we take a bath together or go swing outside in our garden swing. He looks at the world with new eyes, and scenes I might never have noticed he points out to me. It may be the way that the light plays on the fountain or a delicate spider web glistening in the sun.

"I am learning to live in the moment and to be aware of all the
beauty and wonder that surrounds us in this world. My husband's
illness, as insidious as it is, is molding me into a better person, a
more tolerant and patient person, and full of gratitude for each
moment we spend together.

"Trouble will come, there is no escaping it, but trouble can richly
bless us. We may find our life changing direction and seeing
possibilities we may have missed if trouble had not brought its gift
to us."

A woman I know was diagnosed with cancer and has struggled through surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She was recently asked how she is doing. Her response was, "Life sparkles." Isn't that wonderful? "Life sparkles!"

She went on to explain that ever since the disease she has appreciated life more fully. Now she sees a sunrise or the way the sunlight reflects on new-fallen snow as if she were looking at it for the first time…or the last time. The world is awash in beauty in ways she has never before noticed. Kindnesses done for her by friends mean more. Life sparkles!

Nobody can live without trouble. But for those with eyes to see...life sparkles.

FOOD OF THE WEEK

Orange... provides 130% of your daily Vitamin C

An orange is more effective than dark-green, leafy vegetables in increasing serum concentrations of retinol and beta-carotene.

There are various types of oranges.

The orange has a sweet-sour taste and is commonly peeled and eaten fresh, or squeezed for its juice. The outer-most layer of the rind is called orange zest, and it has a similar flavor to the inner part of the orange. The rind is very high in nutrients and can be used in cooking, cleaning or eating. When the oil is removed from the orange rind it is a very effective non-toxic cleaning and polishing agent. Orange oil is used as a wood treatment for preserving and naturally beautifying it.

One naval orange provides 130% of your daily Vitamin C. This powerful antioxidant protects the body from the effects of stress, pollution and disease. Unlike some vitamins, Vitamin C cannot be stored by the body, so it must be replenished regularly. Oranges supply 80 fat-free calories packed with energizing carbohydrates that fuel energy levels.

Oranges supply Vitamin C, flavonoids and folate as well as fiber and many other vitamins and minerals that bolster the immune system and contribute to overall health, which is especially important during cold and flu season.

One serving of oranges or grapefruit contain 1g of protein and the mineral zinc, which can bolster the immune system and help fight off the negative effects of stress and help ward off illness and diseases.

The fruit originated in India or Vietnam, depending on who you listen to. It was called na rangi in Sanskrit. The na rangi or naranja was translated as "norange", and in English usage a norange was back-formed into the more acceptable an orange. The same thing happened in French and Italian, but in Spanish it is still naranja.

A number of varieties of orange are now cultivated in many parts of the world, usually in warmer climates. The sweet navel orange - Citrus aurantium - was first grown in Spain, and has become the most popular variety. The sweet orange will grow to different sizes and colors due to local conditions, most commonly with ten slices inside.

The Valencia or Murcia orange is one of the sweet oranges used for juice. It is a late-season fruit and is the most popular orange when the navel oranges are out of season.

The blood orange has streaks of red in the fruit, and when squeezed the juice is often reddish. The blood orange, with it's sweet, deep red colored flesh, was most likely the result of a mutation that occured in 17th century Sicily. In most varieties of blood orange even the pulp and skin are slightly sweet, and not bitter.

The mandarin is similar, but smaller and sweeter. The mandarin orange is considered a native of south-eastern Asia and the Philippines. It is most abundantly grown in Japan, southern China, India, Mexico and the East Indies, and is esteemed for home consumption in Australia. Mandarin is a group name for a class of oranges with thin, loose peel, which have been dubbed "kid-glove" oranges. These are treated as members of a distinct species, Citrus reticulata Blanco. The name "tangerine" could be applied as an alternate name to the whole group, but, in the trade, is usually confined to the types with red-orange skin. In the Philippines all mandarin oranges are called naranjita. Spanish-speaking people in the American tropics call them mandarina. There are a multitude of different named Mandarin oranges.

My grandchildren's favorite breakfast is

Orange French Toast;

Ingredients;
3 eggs beaten
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1/4  teaspoon orange zest
1/2 cup soy milk
1 Tablespoon melted Butter
6-8 Whole wheat bread slices

1) Beat first six ingredients together in bowl until well mixed.
2) Heat griddle.
3) Dip bread slices in mixture coating both sides.
4) Cook on butter coated or non-stick griddle until lightly browned. If you like your French toast slightly sweeter lightly sprinkle with powdered sugar. For a more cinnamon taste sprinkle with sugar and ground cinnamon before serving. (I keep a salt shaker with cinnamon/granulated sugar mixture on hand for this purpose. 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon to 1/4 cup sugar.)

Serve hot with fruit or syrup of choice. (Our favorite is with sliced peach or sliced strawberries)

So an orange a day is a good rule to live by!

Build a healthy immune system!
Lena
