This week is going to be a week of juggling my
business, home and grandson's time. Bear with me if I don't answer calls
or emails as fast as usual. The grandchildren wait all winter for spring
break to spend time here with the animals and us in clean air and
freedom from worrying about someone trying to hurt them!
Today's Motivator is a great explanation of love that you will rarely
see or hear!
I am answering health questions to the best of my ability
using what I gleaned from 20-years as a Medical Office
Nurse and Administrator along with my education in
nutritional and alternative modes. I am not a doctor
and you should not think of me as one.
Q & A is for your information and education only and in
some instances to give you a different perspective
on a particular problem!
My wish for you, in the use of the information gained here,
is that you will apply it in a smart and safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm it!
Not to be used in place of your judgment but in
addition to...
I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a problem
and then make a decision for myself and I hope that will be your attitude as well!

QUESTION:
Dear lean,
What do you think inhaling of camphor (white in colour) would do to the
humans system?
M.W.
ANSWER:
Breathing camphor occasionally is not dangerous to the average person!
But in very RARE cases in people with epilepsy, seizures have been
triggered with camphor and a few other essential oils. Such as
eucalyptus, fennel, hyssop, pennyroyal, rosemary, sage, tansy, tree tea,
turpentine, and wormwood oils triggering as well.
Camphor is very good for opening up nasal passages when a cold is
present, also in small doses camphor warms the stomach, stimulates
peristalsis and expels gas. In essence good for the stomach and
respiratory systems.
If the person using camphor isn't an epileptic, no problem. If overused
a dry nasal passage can occur, but not usually dangerous only
annoying...
Hope that answers your question,
Lena

WHAT IS LOVE?
Diane Ackerman said, "Everyone admits that love is wonderful and
necessary, yet no one agrees on just what it is." Over the years, I
have been learning what it is.
When I first got married, I wanted to show my love to my new wife. I was
drawn to romantic stories like one from the time of Oliver Cromwell in
England where a young soldier had been tried in military court and
sentenced to death. He was to be shot at the "ringing of the curfew
bell." His fiancée climbed up into
the bell tower. Several hours before curfew time and tied herself to
bell's huge clapper. At curfew time, when only muted sounds came out of
the bell tower, Cromwell demanded to know why the bell was not ringing.
His soldiers went to investigate and found the young woman cut and
bleeding from being knocked back and forth against the great bell. They
brought her down, and, the story goes, Cromwell was so impressed with
her willingness to suffer in this way on behalf of someone she loved
that he dismissed the soldier saying, "Curfew shall not ring tonight."
That must be love, I thought! That was the kind of commitment I needed
to make! I wanted to give my all. To tie myself to the bell for her. To
die, if necessary, for her. To sacrifice myself on the altar of true
love! I wanted her to know that I'd give it all up for her.
But she never wanted me to die for her. Never! Clean the toilets,
maybe, but never die. My commitment was to be shown in household chores!
(I read that an exhaustive study showed that no woman ever shot her
husband while he was doing dishes. What a relief. Washing dishes may
lack inspiration, but at least it's safe...)
I was never called upon to tie myself to the bell. But I was still
called upon to show my love - in little ways, mostly.
I was needed to comfort her before we were married when the doctor told
her she could never have children...to hold her hand and tell her I
wanted her more than I wanted a family.
I was called upon to sit by her hospital bed after surgery and
encourage her.
I was called upon to hold her after her father died and let her cry.
I was also called upon to carve out alone time with her as often as
possible and to make sure my plans included her as well as me.
I was never needed to prove my undying love through a glorious act of
self-sacrifice. It was something I was required to do in little ways,
through one small act of kindness at a time.
And that, I've learned, is love.

FOOD OF THE WEEK
=================
An old-wives tale that really is true!
"An apple a day keeps the doctor away!"
Apples are known to help keep the immune system healthy
Apples are a marvelous anti-aging food. They stabilize blood sugar,
lower blood pressure, control the appetite and keep the cardiovascular
system healthy.
Researchers have found that those who eat more apples tend to have a
lower incidence of colds and upper respiratory ailments. In 2003 it was
reported by one study group that those who ate apples could probably
avoid asthma.
There are numerous types of apples but they vary very little in the
nutrient content, so eat whichever type you prefer and expect basically
the same results!
* Apples have no fat, cholesterol or sodium, and a medium-size apple
contains only 80 calories.
* A medium-size apple provides five grams of dietary fiber - 20 percent
of the recommended daily intake. This is more than oatmeal or most
breakfast cereal, which can lower cholesterol as well as keep your
intestines healthy and moving as they should!
* Apple sauce, apple juice and apple cider are a tasty way to get your
minimum five servings of fruits and vegetables per day for optimum
health. Six ounces of apple juice or apple cider or one-half cup (4
ounces) of apple sauce count as one daily fruit serving.
* Apples contain pectin, a water-soluble fiber found to reduce levels of
cholesterol by removing it from the blood stream.
* Apples are a good source of potassium, which may help to maintain
healthy blood pressure.
* Apples contain complex carbohydrates that give you energy faster than
eating something high in sugar.
* Apples contain boron, an essential trace element that helps to harden
bones, which may reduce the onset of osteoporosis.
* Apples have been shown to be better than coffee or caffeine to give
you that morning boost of energy!
Be sure to eat the skin (wash it first) because it contains
pectin fiber, a soluble type of fiber, which is a well known
anti-cholesterol agent.
Around our house we prefer apples raw or cooked whole as desert.
Core the apple and trim the bottom of the apple.
Place it in an oven safe dish.
Fill the apple core hole with butter and brown sugar, cover dish with
foil and bake in a preheated 350F degree oven for about 40 minutes. If
you have more than two apples extend baking time by 5 minutes per apple.
Or place butter and brown sugar filled apples in a microwave safe dish
and microwave as you would a baked potato.
Eating an apple a day will keep the doctor away as well as keep you
younger in many ways.
Enjoy your healthy fruit!
