QUESTION:
Lena I'm hoping you have a solution for me! My 2 year old son had an ear
infection two months ago and had antibiotics now the ear is fine, but he
has had runny diarrhea ever since. Went back to the doctor a couple of
times, who has had him on a BRAT diet. Without actually saying it, she
keeps insinuating that I am feeding him foods that cause the diarrhea. I
truly have stuck to the BRAT diet even though he begs for other foods.

ANSWER:
I emailed this mom immediately, but think the answer needs to be
published since this still continues to happens so often and I continue
to receive the same question! Even in this so-called enlightened time of
medicine more often than not the same old treatments, that do not work,
continue to be prescribed.
For those who do not know what the BRAT diet is; BRAT stands for the
first initials of its ingredients -- Bananas, Rice, Applesauce or apple
juice and Toast. This diet is dangerous if continued more than 24
hours. It restricts the child?s body from badly needed minerals and
nutrients to strengthen the immune system and nourish the body, which
can aggravate the problem!
This same problem is happening all over the country simply because
doctors do not know anything other than medicating. I ran across this
multiple times in the pediatric office but I passed on the following
information to the patients, (without the doctors knowledge most times)
hence the beginning of the Dr. Lena nickname.
Understanding Diarrhea!
When your son took the antibiotic his intestinal system was suppressed
and killed. By that I mean the natural bacteria or flora that is
absolutely necessary for health was decimated. Read

A conquering hero of greens, Kale!
It is often used to decorate produce cases at the grocery store. But a
steamed up batch is building health for you and your family. In some
parts of the world this great green food is coming on the scene in huge
proportions. Make the most of it and be healthy!
This delicious member of the brassica family is full of nutrition;
Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin,Pantothenic acid, Vitamin B-6,
Folate, Folic acid, Folate, Vitamin B-12. Vitamin A, Retinol, Vitamin A
and Vitamin E along with minerals such as Calcium, Iron, Magnesium,
Phosphorus,Potassium,Sodium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, and Selenium.
Along with important Amino Acids such as; Tryptophan, Threonine,
Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Cystine, Phenylalanine ,

My favorite way of eating Kale is Sauteed in Olive Oil
Rinse and dry one bunch of kale and chop into bite size pieces. Chop a
couple of green onions. Finely chop 2 cloves of garlic. Put one
tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil into a saute pan heated on medium
low. Throw in kale, onion and garlic and saute until wilted. Season with
sea salt and squeeze on a little fresh lemon juice or seasoned Rice
Vinegar.
Enjoy your green food and expect great health!
