My wish for you, in the use of the information gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in  addition to...

QUESTION:

This may seem petty but to those of us who have acne it isn't. I know doctors say that what you eat does not make you break out, but when I have chocolate in my diet, I will break out. It's not sugar, because it's usually hot chocolate with artificial sweetener in it.  Does chocolate create acne or what? Your opinion please?

Judy

ANSWER:

Nothing is petty when it affects our life and/or health!

99% of doctors wouldn't have a clue as doctors are not given nutrition classes or taught proper nutritional healing processes in medical school, so what do they know?  In 1975 scientist confirmed the link between food and mood. But sadly physicians see it as not important to keep up on the latest food information. Of course the pharmaceutical industry that runs our medical schools can't afford for them to know either. That would mean a lot of money out of their pockets? Anyway, none of the dozens of doctors I worked with, over the twenty years in medical offices, thought it important!

It may be a combination of things or one particular causal, but here are the most likely probabilities!

Scientist's say that "Moods regulate the hormonal system" and in turn trigger good or bad responses in our body, also our immune system responses as well. Hence, "Thoughts truly are things,"  or "As you think so are you," makes for our hormones reacting or not reacting as they are intended! Hormonal shifts create acne just as often as foods. Stress is also an instigator or hormonal shifts, which create a set up for acne.

Before you men with acne start snickering let me tell you! Yes, men have hormones as well as us women. True, not as much but enough that it can affect your body, or it wouldn't be there! With the stress experience these days and the hormonal shifts it could be you!

But Judy, in your case I'm betting it's the artificial sweetener (generic name aspartame)! Acne is one of the known side effects of artificial sweeteners, along with MS, Lupus, fibromyalgia and a variety of other autoimmune diseases being traced to the consistent use of artificial sweeteners.

Other possibilities are; that you are adding whipped cream, as do most people, and dairy products are a great producer of acne, especially since it is the fatty part of the milk. Or it could be the chocolate. Roasted cocoa (which chocolate comes from) contains 50 chemicals, created in processing the chocolate, that can stimulate changes in body chemistry! Chocolate also contains fat.  Cocoa butter is a fat and unless you are drinking defatted chocolate you may be getting sufficient quantity of fat, especially if you are adding whipped cream. Or it may be the combination of all of the above!

Be a detective; try Hot Chocolate with sugar, with/without whipped cream, then try it with sweetener with and without whipped cream, etc. and find out which is the culprit or maybe it's a combination of culprits! Be sure to give it a full 72 hours between trial cups. I strongly urge you to stay away from artificial sweeteners! Stevia is a great natural sugar not processed with chemicals. I also recommend staying away from Splenda, for at least fifteen or twenty years until the facts are all in on it, as what we know now it isn't good for man nor beast! The potential for health disaster is there!

Read "Is Splenda As Splendid As The Manufacturer Wants You To Believe."

Nothing in health and/or medicine is absolute, for the majority of people.

If it checks out to be a hormonal thing try 40+ Balanced Woman Herbal Formula and Ionic liquid minerals. Works great for my daughter! Get them at the Herbal Pharmacy!
Good luck in your detective work!

MOTIVATOR

SLOW DOWN

An American racing enthusiast entered his horse in Britain's famous Epsom Downs Steeple-chase. Just before the race began, he slipped his horse a white pellet. The Duke of Marlboro, who was serving as steward, caught the owner in the act and objected. "I say, old man, really you can't do that sort of thing over here!"

"Just a harmless sugar lump," the American assured him. He gulped one down himself. "Here, try one," he said.

The Duke took a pill, swallowed it, and seemed satisfied. As the
jockey mounted, the American whispered in his ear, "Son, keep that horse on the outside and stay out of trouble, because once he starts running, there ain't nothing that can catch him...except me and the Duke of Marlboro!"

Do you ever feel that way - running so fast that nothing can catch
you? Our busy and full lives are too often like that; we rush here and hurry there. We eat fast food. We run our errands. We use e-mail and put off reading our messages until we have the time. We hurry through meals and can only give friends "just a minute." We live fastpaced and anxious lives. Too often, we run so fast we lose our center.

But, in the end, it's not how fast you lived that matters, but how
well you lived. Are you taking time to enjoy? Have you left enough
time for you? Is there time to listen to a friend or visit a relative
in need? Are you leaving time each day to nurture your faith?
Do you need to slow down? After all, the only race that matters goes, not to those who run it quickly, but to those who run it well.

FOOD OF THE WEEK
=================

Black Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris),
Also known as:
turtle beans, black turtle beans, black Spanish beans, Tampico beans, and Venezuelan beans.

Legumes of all kinds are great foods and should be eaten at least twice a week for the greater health.

The darker the bean the more the antioxidant content. Out of all the bean family black beans win in the most nutrients department.

Black beans are an amazing food! One-half cup of cooked black beans has as many antioxidants as two glasses of red wine. Not only that but they are packed with fiber and folate, which are touted to be great at reducing the risk of heart disease. Black beans, as all dried beans, are also good sources of starches, fiber, B vitamins, iron, zinc, phosphorus, complex carbohydrates and calcium. About half  of the calcium is lost during cooking. High percentages of the other nutrients remain however, even after cooking.

All legumes are high in protein, and black beans are no exception. Dried beans are important sources of protein in vegetarian diets, and in areas where animal protein is scarce or expensive. However, this protein is incomplete (does  not contain all 9 amino acids), so grains (which provide the missing amino acids) must also be a significant part of the strictly vegetarian diet. In the areas where common beans originated (Central America and southern Mexico) corn supplied the missing amino acids, and  squash was an additional source of vitamins.

Before cooking, be sure to pick through them, picking out any small pebbles, split and withered beans and any other foreign matter. (Beans from the Rockies and Pacific coast tend to have more adobe (bits of clay) and stones). It is also helpful to cover the beans with cold water, let sit for 5 minutes and remove anything that floats. Repeat to be sure all dirt and foreign matter is removed.  Drain and ready to cook

Here is one great way to enjoy black beans.
Bean, Barley & Avocado Summer Salad

This can be refrigerated and stored for several days!

1 cup carrot juice
1/2 teasp. Thyme
1/2 teasp. Sea salt
1/8 teasp. Ground Cayenne pepper
1/2 cup quick-cooking barley
3 Tablespoons Lime or Lemon Juice
1 Tablespoon Virgin Olive Oil
1 can (9 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup diced tomatoes
1/2 cup diced avocado

Combine carrot juice, thyme, sea salt and cayenne in a saucepan. Bring to boil over medium heat; add barley and reduce to a simmer. Cover with lid and simmer until barley is cooked, approx. 15 minutes.

While beans are simmering whisk lime/lemon juice and oil in a large bowl. Add barley when cooked and any liquid remaining in the barley. Toss to coat all.
Add beans, tomatoes and avocado, toss to mix well. Serve on a lettuce leaf.

Enjoy your great food,
Lena
