QUESTION:
Hi Lena,
I have this embarrassing problem and I don't know anyone who has such a
problem (never heard or met any one).
There is a horrible odor from my head ! It is really bad and makes
people at work very uncomfortable ! I have had it for many years now.
I went to so many doctors, to make the story short, it suffices to say
they don't know what it is.
I used to get headaches also but after taking "Life Transfusion Liquid
Mineral Complex" once a week for the past 3 weeks, I have no more
headaches (if I take it every day, I cannot sleep at night).
Have you come across any one who has such a problem? Can you help
please! I cannot get ahead in my profession because of it. I am
terrified of losing my job.
If you publish this question, please DO NOT publish my name.
S.
I had some questions before I could answer this lady so I emailed
her:
Can you describe the odor? Is it an oily smell, a body odor type of
smell, a dead skin smell, or what? Some people have overactive glands in
their head and/or body and have a head odor if they do not shampoo their
hair every day, but I'm assuming that isn't you. There are a few
things that will cause that type of problem, so let me know what type of
odor it is and I will see if you fit into either of those areas...Does
your body perspire easily or not?
Glad your headaches are better with the minerals but I haven't heard of
anyone unable to sleep while taking the minerals unless they took them
after 3 or 4 pm, since they have a half-life (leaves the system) of 4 to
6 hours it doesn't make sense???
Lena
Her Answer:
Hi Lena,
All I can say is, it is a disgusting smell. I cannot describe it. Maybe it is dead skin smell. I am not sure how dead skin smells ! Some
times it smells like I have not washed my hair in ages. It is the worst,
the day after shampooing. After that some times it gets a little less
and some other times it does not. I tried shampooing every day. But that
makes it worse ! Tried so many different shampoos. I cannot use shampoos
with conditioners, they make it worse !
Yes, I perspire a lot at night and mostly it is the head. I assumed hot
flashes never stopped for me. I always had stomach cramps and vomiting
at menstruation. But menstruation stopped in my early 40's. It is close
to 15 years now.
Thanks,
S.
ANSWER:
Smelly scalp isn't all that unusual and most of the time occurs in women
over 45...
There are usually three reasons for smelly scalp, either chronic
illness, fungus or hormonal imbalance...
Sounds very much like yours is a hormonal imbalance. Gleaned from your
statements, "It is the worst, the day after shampooing. After that some
times it gets a little less and some other times it does not. Yes, I
perspire a lot at night and mostly it is the head. I assumed hot flashes
never stopped for me."
The night sweats come with many different illnesses, as well as taking
anti-depressants. Since you have been evaluated by many doctors it
appears not to be an illness or a fungus or they most likely would have found it and
you did not mention taking antidepressants... Most likely the problem is
the results of a hormonal imbalance, which seems very likely from your
description of perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms. Headaches are
also a sign of hormonal imbalances as well... I suspect your sleep
disturbances are also hormonal, not minerals, as that too goes along
with a hormonal imbalance.
To start with, you need to change your shampoo to one that contains
sulphur, zinc, salicylic acid and/or tar... Head and Shoulders has most
of those or try Sal3 bar soap at
http://www.SulfurSoap.com (I have no connection with them).
Second, Rub several drops of
Life Transfusion Ionic Liquid minerals into your scalp at night
(enough to cover your scalp well) and let it stay there until your
morning shower then shampoo with the new shampoo and rinse your hair
with green tea (Unless you are a blonde then forgo the green tea), I
know that sounds silly but it helps. (directions for green tea rinse; 1
green tea bag in 8 ounces of boiling water, let steep for 10 minutes,
cool by adding an ice cube or let it sit until warm enough to pour on
your hair, while pouring tea on hair lightly rub into your scalp, then
rinse hair lightly.) Do this and start taking
Balanced Woman 40+ Master Formula along with the liquid minerals,
daily, to correct the hormonal imbalance. Take 1 capsules three times a
day and if that doesn't balance the hormones go to 2 capsules morning
and noon and evening, occasionally some women require 3 capsule 3 times
a day, but very rare.
Hopefully this will solve your problem but if by some chance it doesn't
you may need to try
Iodized thyroid, since a thyroid problem can sometimes contribute to
the problem and also be at the bottom of sweats.
Let me know how it goes,
Lena

UNCOMMON COURTESY
A funny story has it that a police officer was investigating an
accident. Referring to a woman lying unconscious in the street, he
asked, "Who was driving the car?"
"I was," a man replied.
"How did you happen to hit her?" the officer inquired.
"I didn't!" he said. "As I approached the intersection, I saw that she
was trying to cross the street. So I stopped for her and she fainted."
I'm not saying that courtesy is rare, but in some cities it's said
that there are only two kinds of pedestrians: the quick and the dead.
Maybe it's that "common courtesy" is not as common as it might be.
A wonderful story comes from 19th Century England. According to the
account, Queen Victoria was once at a diplomatic reception in London.
The guest of honor was an African chieftain. All went well during the
meal until, at the end, finger bowls were served. The guest of honor had
never seen a British finger bowl, and no one had thought to brief him
beforehand about its purpose. So he took the bowl in his two hands,
lifted it to his mouth, and drank its contents down!
For an instant there was breathless silence among the British
privileged guests, and then they began to whisper to one another. All
that stopped, however, when Queen Victoria silently took her finger bowl
in her two hands, lifted it, and drank its contents! A moment later, 500
surprised British ladies and gentlemen simultaneously drank the contents
of their own finger bowls.
It was the queen's uncommon courtesy that guarded her guest from
certain embarrassment.
"Knowledge, ability, experience are of little avail in reaching high
success if courtesy be lacking," says George D. Powers. "Courtesy is the
one passport that will be accepted without question in every land, in
every office, in every home, in every heart in the world. For
nothing commends itself so well as kindness; and courtesy is
kindness."

FOOD OF THE WEEK

Carrots
Easy to pack and perfect with that favorite dip, the crunchy texture and
sweet taste of carrots is popular among both adults and children.
Shipped around the country from California throughout the year.
The carrot has a thick, fleshy, deeply colored root, which grows
underground, and feathery green leaves that emerge above ground. It is
known scientifically as Daucus carota, a name that can be traced back to
ancient Roman writings of the 3rd century. Carrots belong to the
Umbelliferae family along with parsnips, fennel caraway, cumin and dill
which all have the umbrella-like flower clusters that characterize this
family of plants.
The carrot is an herbaceous plant containing about 87% water. The power
and goodness of carrots have many important vitamins and minerals. They
are rich in antioxidants Beta Carotene, Alpha Carotene, Phytochemicals
and Glutathione, Calcium and Potassium, and vitamins A, B1, B2, C, and
E, which are also considered antioxidants, protecting as well as
nourishing the skin. They contain a form of calcium easily absorbed by
the body. Finally they also contain Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese,
Phosphorous and Sulphur, a real wonder drug!!
Also contain, in small amounts, essential oils, carbohydrates and
nitrogenous composites. They are well-known for their sweetening,
antianemic, healing, diuretic, remineralizing and sedative properties.
In order to assimilate the greatest quantity of the nutrients present in
carrots, it is important to chew them well.
Carrots are nutritional heroes; they store a goldmine of nutrients. No
other vegetable or fruit contains as much carotene as carrots, which the
body converts to vitamin A. This is a truly versatile vegetable and
contains an extraordinary pectin fiber that has been found to have
cholesterol-lowering properties.
Clearly a raw carrot has more goodness in it when it is raw and
therefore you would assume it is the healthiest way to eat it. But
unless the carrot is juiced then consumed, the body cannot break down
the goodness because of the cellular nature of the carrot.
So in reality, unlike most other vegetables (not all), carrots are more
nutritious when eaten cooked than eaten raw (except when juiced raw).
Because raw carrots have tough cellular walls, the body is able to
convert less than 25 per cent of their beta carotene into vitamin A.
Cooking, however, partially dissolves cellulose-thickened cell walls,
freeing up nutrients by breaking down the cell membranes. So long as the
cooked carrots are served as part of a meal that provides some fat the
body can absorb more than half of the carotene. Carrots are usually cut
into pieces and eaten after boiling or steaming, but done in this way,
half the proteins and soluble carbohydrates will be lost, so it is more
advisable to cook them whole and then cut up.
Experiments show that eating lightly-cooked carrots is much more
beneficial than eating raw carrots, which confirms the ancient wisdom in
traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners
have always recommended that their patients eat lightly-cooked carrots
in order to get the best nutritional absorption. Recent research by Dr.
Xiangdong Wang at Tufts University shows that beta carotene can change
in the human body into a substance called retinoic acid, which is widely
used to treat cancers.
Often overlooked, but found in carrots, is alpha carotene. According to
an article in NCI Cancer Weekly (Nov. 13, 1989), Michiaki Murakoshi, who
leads a team of biochemists at Japan's Kyoto Prefectural University of
Medicine, contends that alpha carotene may be more powerful than beta
carotene in inhibiting processes that may lead to tumor growth.
Murakoshi indicates that neuroblastoma (cancer) cells coated with
carotenoids experience a drop in N-myc activity compared to untreated
cells. N-myc is a gene that codes for cell growth-stimulating proteins
and can contribute to cancer formation and growth. Alpha carotene was
found to be about ten times more inhibitory toward N-myc activity than
beta carotene. Murakoshi concludes that all types of carotenoids should
be studied for possible health benefits.
Carrots benefit our bodies by:
*Boosting immunity (especially among older people).
*Reducing photosensitivity (beta-carotene protects the skin from sun
damage).
&Improving symptoms of HIV.
*Easing alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
*Helping to heal minor wounds and injuries.
*Reducing the risk of heart disease.
*Reducing the risk of high blood pressure.
*Cleansing the liver, and when consumed regularly, can help the liver
excrete fats and bile.
*Fighting bronchitis.
*Fighting infection (vitamin A keeps cell membranes healthy, making them
stronger against disease-causing microorganisms)
*Improving muscle, flesh, and skin health.
*Helping fight anemia.
*Reducing acne.
*Improving eye health.
Have you ever seen a purple, white, yellow, or red carrot? Most people
haven't, even though such carrots have existed for hundreds of years.
You may see them in the future. Recent research at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison suggests that pigments in these colorful carrots,
which taste just like regular carrots, may help prevent heart disease
and cancer, and reduce cholesterol. Studies examining the health
benefits of fruits and vegetables are revealing the disease-preventive
powers of the pigments that give plants their distinctive colors.
Orange carrots get their color from beta carotene, a pigment the body
converts to vitamin A. Vitamin A deficiency, although rare in the United
States, poses a major public health problem in developing countries
second only to protein malnutrition.
According to the World Health Organization, vitamin A deficiency
partially or totally blinds nearly 350,000 children from more than 75
countries every year. Roughly 60 percent of these children die within
months of going blind. However, vitamin A deficiency is preventable.
Healthful juice of our family's choice
12 large carrots
2 large apples (I usually use Fuju Apples but any will do)
1/4" piece of ginger root.
Wash carrots, ginger root and apples well before juicing!
Juice carrots and ginger root together then the apples.
Tasty refreshing and healthy!
Eat Carrots as often as possible!
