Greetings! I do hope your weekend was one of rest and relaxation to put you in a healthier mood with a brighter outlook on life.

Here is something I just have to pass on about heart disease.

A massive study involving tens of thousand of patients, and more than two hundred centers around the world from Asia to Africa to the US. Was designed to establish, once and for all, what really and truly are the major factors that cause, or prevent, heart disease worldwide. BUT Something is MISSING, can you spot it?

Give up? Cholesterol LDL or HDL. quietly faded away in the hopes you would not notice that cholesterol myth was just that a myth! It never existed and the drug companies is making billions from that myth!!!!

As usual Steve has come up with another great Motivator, as only he can! If you enjoy his weekly Motivator let him know and tell him you read it in A Natural Environmental Health Facts Ask Lena Health Q & A ezine. Publisher@LifeSupportSystem.com

Wishing you a week of health and wealth building!

QUESTION:

Hi Lena,

Please I want to know if there's anything I can do to stop fat from spreading to my face. It's really giving me cause for concern. Instead of going to my body, it's spreading to my face, I'm really disturbed by this. I'm 26, a female. I've never had any health problems.

Thanks for your assistance to this.
Regards,
Ib

ANSWER:

Thank you for the question Ib.

I am assuming this is a new occurrence in your life and not something you've had for a very long time.

There's a myriad of reasons for fat on the face and some aren't so good and requires seeing a doctor to get an actual diagnosis. I do not wish to take the place of your doctor.

Here are a few reasons associated with a fat face;

At your age I would look at pregnancy as one cause. Some women get a fat face weeks before the tummy starts to enlarge due to changes within the pituitary gland.

Then there are the adrenal glands that may be stressed and not functioning as they should. This is a hard one to diagnose in the beginning stages. If you are under a lot of stress daily, drink a lot of caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea, sodas), your energy lags during the day, unexplained emotionally unbalanced at times, you sleep poorly (less than 7 hours a night), these are all red flags indicating probable adrenal dysfunction.

The adrenal glands are two small but very important glands, one above each kidney, which produce a range of hormones, or chemical messengers that works in sink with the Pituitary at the base of the skull.

Your best bet to balance out these glands is to get your minerals and vitamin  balances corrected and keep them that way ASAP, Read Why that is imperative, before it develops into something more severe, such as;

Cushing's Syndrome, a disorder caused by an excess of the hormone cortisol. Fat accumulates in the face, abdomen and upper back, often producing a characteristic round "moon face" and eventually accompanied by a so-called "buffalo hump" in the back. The arms and legs usually remain slender.

Other symptoms of prolonged Cushing's Syndrome include muscle wasting and weakness, thin skin, poor wound healing, easy bruising, purple "stretch marks" on the abdomen, menstrual irregularities, high blood pressure, glucose intolerance and hair loss in women.

Cushing's syndrome diagnosis will require testing by an Endocrinologist, then get back to me and we can have Dr. Garland work up a natural healthy non-chemical, all natural Cushing's protocol, if you wish.

There are other adrenal dysfunction diseases but none that would apply to your fat face. Adrenal dysfunctional problems can be life threatening if left untreated.

Then there is Hypothyroidism that can involve swelling of the face, which usually in later stage includes fatigue, lethargy, dry, coarse skin, decreased sweating, poor memory, slow speech and hoarse voice, weakness, headache and an intolerance to cold. This one can easily be determined by a home test. You will need an oral thermometer only!

Keep the thermometer beside your bed with a paper and pen. When you awaken in the morning, before moving around (yes, even before you make a trip to the bathroom), put the thermometer tightly in your armpit with your upper arm tight to your side and keep it in place for 15 minutes. Keep as still as possible. Then, remove the thermometer, take a reading, and write down the results.

Do this for five days, then determine an average reading by adding all five readings together and dividing by five. If you're average temperature is below 97.5 degrees F., in all probability you are suffering from subclinical hypothyroidism that will require adding thyroid supplement to your daily regimen along with balancing your minerals and vitamins. Try a natural thyroid supplement first, as they seem to be more absorbable and the thyroid will more readily recognize it. Natural is always better for the body. Take ionized-thyroid as directed on the bottle for three weeks and repeat temperature test then if no improvement see your doctor for further testing.

However, if you inherited a naturally round and full face, chances are you're going to have to live with it. I would suggest you consult with a good hair-stylist for the best style to disguise your facial roundness if it makes your unhappy.

Hope this helps answer your question,
Lena

MOTIVATOR

THE REAL YOU

One woman describes herself as "Five feet, three inches tall and pleasingly plump." After she had a minor accident, her mother accompanied her to the hospital emergency room. The admitting nurse asked for her height and weight, and she blurted out, "Five-foot-eight, 125 pounds."

The nurse pondered over this information and looked over the patient. Then the woman's mother leaned over to her and gently chided, "Sweetheart, this is not the Internet."

If you could change your appearance in life as easily as you can make one up on the Internet, would you remake yourself? We live in an age when people are increasingly dissatisfied with their bodies. They want liposuction, face lifts, tummy tucks, silicon implants and cosmetic surgery - too often for no other reason than to look like someone else!

And don't think I am only talking about women. Men too place great emphasis on their bodies. Studies show that in 1972, one in six men didn't like their appearance; today, almost 50% of men surveyed reported being unhappy with their looks. According to the book THE ADONIS COMPLEX New York: The Free Press, 2000), more and more men are feeling insecure about their appearance. In 1996, over 700,000 men had some cosmetic surgery - often in an unhealthy attempt to fix a perceived flaw that nobody else noticed. Eating disorders and steroid abuse are all too common among males.

Authors Harrison Pope, Katharine Phillips, and Robert Olivardia did an experiment in which men were asked to take a computer image of an ordinary man and add muscle mass to him until he was the size these men wanted to be. On average, the men packed about 28 more pounds of muscle mass on the computer image; women, on the other hand, only added a negligible amount of muscles to the image to create their ideal guy.

Poet Khalil Gibran said, "Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart." When we choose to believe that our most attractive qualities lie within, we can let go of those unrealistic expectations of our bodies. Care for your body; you'll keep it for the rest of your life. Be thankful for it and treat it well. But remember, the real you, the essence of you, cannot be improved by a bottle, a pill or a salon. It is a beautiful and glorious light shining from your heart to the heart of the world. Cherish it. And let it shine.

The Fruit That Played A Role In Knights Of Old!

Our pear tree had fruit this year like we have never seen and tempted the ravens, worms and goats to eat to their hearts content, if we didn't get to them first! I started wondering why they were all so interested in them and why we have to fight nature to get the best.

These sweet juicy yellow, green and sometimes a musty brown fruit with a rounded shape that becomes narrower towards the stalk and has kind of a grainy texture that turns some people off. Pears offer a healthy snack as well as a healthy ingredient in many recipes.  Full of natural nutritious fiber!

Pear History  is kind of interesting and dating back to the early Asian history!

Pears are one of the world's oldest cultivated and beloved fruits. In 5,000 B.C., Feng Li, a Chinese diplomat became consumed by grafting peaches, almonds, persimmons, pears and apples as a commercial venture. In The Odyssey, the Greek poet laureate Homer lauds pears as a "gift of the gods." Pomona, goddess of fruit, was a cherished member of the Roman Pantheon and Roman farmers documented extensive pear growing and grafting techniques. Thanks to their versatility and long storage life, pears were a valuable and much-desired commodity among the trading routes of the ancient world. Evident in the works of Renaissance Masters, pears have long been an elegant still-life muse for artists. In the 17th century a great flourishing of modern pear variety cultivation began taking place in Europe. And in popular culture, the pear tree was immortalized alongside a partridge in the 18th-century Christmas carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Early colonists brought the first pear trees to America's eastern settlements where they thrived until crop blights proved too severe to sustain widespread cultivation. Fortunately, the pear trees brought west to Oregon and Washington by pioneers in the 1800's thrived in the unique agricultural conditions found in the Pacific Northwest. Today's Northwest pear varieties are the same or similar to those first cultivated in France and Belgium where they were prized for their delicate flavor, buttery texture, and long storage life.

Pears are picked when they are almost ripe. The fruit will come off if you lift the fruit vertically, signally time to pick. Pears ripen best at room temperature. If you want too keep them a few days you have to keep them in a dark and cold place. There's no need to peel a pear... their tender, edible skin is an additional and nutritional source of fiber. A medium sized pear provides 4 grams of fiber, or 16% of the recommended daily value. Always wash all fresh fruits and vegetables before serving.

More levulose - the sweetest of known natural sugars - is found in fresh pears than any other fruit, which doesn't really sound like it's good for dieting. Well, levulose is easily digested and plays a role in energizing the metabolism thereby helping to bring about weight loss. The pear is rich in the minerals; Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium - 30% more than an apple - , Sodium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese and Selenium. Not short changed in the vitamin department either containing; Vitamin C, B-6, B-12, A, E, Rhiamin,  Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Folate, Folic acid  and the little known DFE.

There are many varieties of pears to choose from and should hit just about any desire!
