QUESTION:
Hi
Please I would like you to expantiate on the causes of fibroid in women
and also I would like to know if it can be caused by abortion or taking
contraceptive pills and I will also like to know if its hereditary.
Thanks
Tinuke
ANSWER:
Thank you for the question Tinuke!
I have covered fibroids in the past on
July 21, 2003 and again on
May 17, 2004 but obviously some did not subscribe at
that time and your questions are slightly different!
Let's start with the last question first; Having an abortion will
not cause fibroid tumors. There is some data showing that women taking
birth control pills have a slightly higher incidence of certain types of
fibroids. Then there is the other side of the coin that says they don't.
The traditional medical world says they tend to run in families... I
would suggest that the reason they run in a family is because they all
had the same diet and end up deficient in the same necessary minerals
and vitamins? Truth is there simply have not been enough studies done to
confirm either allegory.
The size and type of fibroids vary immensely among women and some are so
small that a microscope is required to see them. However, on rare
occasions, some women experience a single large fibroid tumor the size
of a grapefruit or a fibroid which is so large it encompasses the entire
abdominal area. Such large tumors can weigh as much as 50 pounds; the
largest, reported, fibroid ever recorded weighed in at 140 pounds. So
they go from very small to potentially large?
Types of Fibroid Tumors are;
Submucous Fibroids; These fibroids occur just below the lining of
the uterus and can cause menstrual problems, including pain as they grow
and move around the pelvic area.
Intramural Fibroids; A round fibroid most often within the
uterine wall which can cause enlargement of the uterus as they grow.
Subserous Fibroids; This fibroid grows on the outer wall of the
uterus and usually causes no symptoms until it grows large enough to
interfere with other organs.
Pedunculated Fibroids; These fibroids develop when a subserous
fibroid grows a peduncle (stalk), as they grow larger they may become
twisted and cause severe pain.
Interligamentous Fibroid; A fibroid which grows sideways between
the ligaments which support the uterus in the abdominal region. This
type of fibroid is especially difficult to remove without the
possibility of interfering with the blood supply or other organs. Is
very rare and can be responsible for miscarriage during a pregnancy.
Parasitic Fibroid; The rarest form of fibroid tumor occurs when a
fibroid attaches itself to another organ.
The traditional medical world has two sides of the fibroid theory. Some
say fibroids are caused by hormones gone wild and the other side say
hormones aren't a problem. Both sides agreeing that no prevention is
available and surgical removal is necessary for the majority. What do
they know? I've seen a much different side than they have?
The natural medical world believes fibroids to be caused from hormone
fluctuations combined without proper mineral balance in the body... They
also know that they are preventable with proper nutritional balance.
Also they know that they are shrinkable by the same method, requiring
more aggressive herbal and mineral supplementation with detoxing along
with a cleansing diet for at least a month. Prevention is done in almost
the same manner. Making sure the mineral and nutrient balance is there!
Whose right? That will be debated forever I suppose.
We do know that when birth control pills came on the market in the early
60's, and the use of them grew, that fibroids became more common, which
tells us that hormones do play a huge roll in the forming of them. I
suspect, as do a number of scientists that it is because taking birth
control pills women immediately go into a malnourished state as birth
control pills, like so many other chemical drugs leach vitamins and
minerals from the body creating a deficiency... Just how nobody knows
for absolute certainty as studies have never effectively been done on
that aspect because the traditional medical world refuses to accept that
fact even exists... My theory about that; when you take a drug made to
suppress certain parts of the body to prevent certain actions and birth
control pills are no different, that creates the body's inability to
process nutrients put into it correctly.
Because I watch fibroids disappear with a protocol that includes a total
84 minerals and trace minerals supplement along with herbal hormonal
balancing along with the alternative world and Linus Pauling's statement
many years ago, "YOU CAN TRACE EVERY SICKNESS, EVERY DISEASE, AND EVERY
AILMENT TO A MINERAL DEFICIENCY," appears to be right on and more
feasible than the traditional medical worlds theory...
A fibroid is the most common tumor (abnormal mass of tissue) found in
the pelvis. Such tumors develop most often between the ages of 35 and 45
years, seldom before age 20. Fibroids do not occur at all before
puberty. Rarely occur after menopause and they then generally stop
growing and may even disappear.
Usually a fibroid is found in the uterus where it is the most common
form of uterine mass. A fibroid can also develop on another structure
that contains smooth muscle cells. In very rare cases, it can even
"invade" another organ when it grows too large to confine itself to its
original location.
A fibroid is a solid tumor that contains mostly smooth muscle held
together by fibrous tissue. (That's how it came by its popular name.)
Other names for fibroids are leiomyomas, myomas,
fibromas, and fibromyomas.
It is difficult to know just how many women have fibroids, unless they
cause a problem, a woman may never realize she has them. It is, however,
estimated that fibroids occur in about 30 percent of women aged 25 to
45. They are more common in women who are overweight.
For some reason, black women seem more likely to develop fibroids than
women in other racial groups. Almost half of all black women more than
30 years of age have fibroids compared with 20 percent of white women of
the same age group. Interestingly, studies have found a low incidence of
fibroids among women in Africa. Overall, however, fibroids tend to be
larger and more numerous in black women at diagnosis. Could that be
because of our Westernized diet of nutrient deficient foods and tendency
to visit McDonald's or Burger King too often failing to fee the body the
nutrients needed to stay fibroid free?
I hope this answered your question,
Lena

LEGACY OF LOVE
A friend once told me of a caring and much-loved school nurse who died.
She was well known by the faculty and students, as she had been
there 35 years. When the principal announced her death to the children,
many of them began to cry.
To help ease their grief, the school counselor had a group of children
draw a picture of what the nurse meant to them. One child filled in her
paper with red. "This is her heart," she explained. "It's too big for
the paper."
At her funeral her friends and family clapped and celebrated her life.
She left behind a great legacy of love.
How will you be remembered? What legacy will you leave behind?
Toward the end of his life, Elton Trueblood made this observation: "At
the age of 93, I am well aware that I do not have many years to live.
Consequently, I try very hard to live my remaining years in such a
manner that I really make a difference in as many lives as possible. How
do I want to be remembered? Not primarily as a Christian scholar, but
rather as a loving person. This can be the goal of every
individual. If I can be remembered as a truly loving person, I shall be
satisfied."
After you are gone, people may forget most of what you have done. But
they will remember whether you loved them.

FOOD OF THE WEEK
=================
A tiny little food with a big taste!
As I spooned on my capers to my fettuccini I began to wonder what
exactly were these little dark things and were they nutritious or not? I
know I like the taste but my husband doesn't. I've had them in many
pasta salads over the years but really have no idea how nutritious they
are?
Well, here's what I found out after going through over 200 pieces of
information and thinking the nutrient information would be in the next
book or article, but alas never to be? The reason I'm actually
publishing this is because of the many hours spent trying to study out
this tiny little bud so I felt justified in passing on what little
information I did find. I also figured cabbages have many healthy
nutrients so this little guy deserved some mention and I expect healthy
nutrients?
The Capper [Capparis spinosa "Cruciferae"] is part of the cabbage family
containing almost 250 species, most of which are herbs growing in
temperate regions of the Northern hemisphere. It is unusual in that it
loses its leaves during the rainy seasons and retains them during the
dry season. It is called the "Rose of the Mediterranean."
Strange but true, Capers are the unopened green flower buds of the
Capparis spinosa, a wild and cultivated prickly, perennial bush grown
mainly in Mediterranean countries (southern France, Italy, and Algeria)
and also in California. Manual labor is required to gather capers, for
the buds must be picked each morning just as they reach the proper size.
Now I know why they are so expensive? After the buds are picked, they
are usually sundried, then pickled in vinegar or salt brine. A good rule
to follow; Rinse before using to flush away as much salt as possible.
Capers can range in size from that of a tiny peppercorn (the petite
variety from southern France, considered the finest) to some as large as
the tip of your little finger (from Italy). I prefer the small ones.
As for nutrients. I was unable to find much in that department so I'm
still left wondering exactly what Capers consist of. I did find that
they are mainly water (about 85%). The dry matter contains bitter
flavonoid glycosides, a mustard oil glycoside named glucocapparin.
According to the "Doctrine of Signatures," it will affect the body part
it resembles (said to resemble testes) and therefore was used as an
aphrodisiac. One encyclopedia said that it is the hyssop talked of in
the Bible, but I could not find anything else to back up that statement.
Cretan Agapios Monachos in his manuscript of the 15th century he writes:
"consume capers with vinegar and oil. If the caper is salted, dip it in
water, then consume it before each meal." In the same paragraph he makes
reference to interesting medicinal benefits of the caper: "it cures the
spleen, destroys vermin, heals the hemorrhoids, increases the vitality
of the sperm, cures liver ailments and cramps, mobilizes the urinary
bladder, facilitates menstruation, and prevents rheumatism." The 15th
century had some good and some bad medicinal things so take it for what
it is worth. I'm not saying it's so or not so, but since it's part of
the cabbage I family prefer to think it's probably so!
I did find that parts of the bush, from which they grow, the roots and
stems of the Woolly Caper Bush Capparis are popular in southern African
traditional medicine and used for various conditions such as malaria,
rheumatism, insanity, snake-bite, jaundice, headache, cough, pneumonia,
tuberculosis and leprosy. This plant is also used to prevent abortion
and treat infertility (van Wyk & Gericke 2000). However, this
species evidently can be poisonous when used wrong. Nothing said about
nutrients in the bud itself?
Capers can lend piquancy to many sauces and condiments; they can also be
used as a garnish for meat and vegetable dishes. I add it to most of my
pasta dishes?
Byzantine Pavlos Aeginitis recommends consumption of the caper served on
a slice of bread topped with vinegar honey. I've never had it that way,
but might just try it...
