Rob writes: I have what my doctor labeled as "acid reflux" though I don't quite have all of the symptoms that says it is acid reflux? Sometimes a pain seems to locate itself in the right side of my chest, sometimes the left, and sometimes it feels as though it could be right at the sphincter between my esophagus/diaphragm.  Sometimes I feel pain between my shoulder blades, though I have had some minor back muscle problems in my life and this may or may not be related.  I could not connect the feeling with any particular food intake?  I walk 30 min. 3 to 4 times a week.   I do not wish to "pop pills" and chose to do some researching of various nutritional philosophies and therapies and am curious what your suggestion would be for alternatives to this problem?
 
Again I want you to know that answering the questions posed to me does not just come off the top of my head but come from 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along with my ongoing education in nutritional and alternative treatment modes along with my many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland, a very knowledgeable naturopath and herbologist, who many years ago, beat his cancer death sentence given by the traditional medical world, has helped me along this path and hopefully help to give hope to those who need it... I also receive a lot of study reports and try to ascertain if they are good or bad and report them to you, which has increased my knowledge and I pass them on to you to use or not...

I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of me as one!!
My years observing life and health of the many people/patients around me and the contradictions of the traditional medical world's idea of treating - prescription domino effect - while watching those same schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but creating far more than they help. Those same medical professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for something to change that premise for myself and those around me. I have what my doctor labeled as "acid reflux" though I don't quite have all of the symptoms that says it is acid reflux? Thank you for your question Rob,

With those symptoms it sounds very much like you may have acid reflux and possibly a hiatus hernia that exacerbates the problem... Taking their little pills can lead to much larger problems later, so bravo for recognizing that "popping pills" as you call it as not a good thing but I don't know a doctor or pharmacists who will tell you that is a healthy belief, yet we have to realize who educated both those medical entities?
 
Why not take their little pills? Nexium, Prilosec, Zantac or any antacid has too many side effects as far as I'm concerned and they kill the natural flora in your stomach and intestinal system along with suppressing hydrochloric acid production, which is absolutely necessary for digesting foods that is needed for a healthy body. The lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach prevents the body from properly absorbing what little nutrients are still in our nutrient deficient foods, thereby leaving people really malnourished over the long haul... Also with the intestinal flora imbalanced all kinds of problems can and usually do occur... Yeast (Candida) being the most common one and the first one to overgrow and take over the body? It's imperative that you replace the natural intestinal flora by taking probiotics during or after taking any prescription medication most assuredly Nexium, Prilosec, Zantac, etc... You will need to take daily probiotics for weeks to repair what an antacid kills... For those who have taken them for a long time they will need to do a severe Candida/yeast killing protocol that can take up to three months to kill and get the flora back into balance.
 
Now to get to acid reflux treatment - if infact you have acid reflux - It is necessary to consume only small meals since acid reflux could be a lifelong problem. Each attack creates more scar tissue therefore smaller meals makes those attacks less likely to happen... The acid burns the throat creating pain that you describe? Never lay down within two hours after eating, as the reflux most likely will occur within that time frame... Stay away from soda's and other acid type juices between meals? Since what affects one person may not bother another you will have to play detective to determine your gassy foods...

You will need to avoid dairy products as hormone, chemical laden dairy is a number one instigator of reflux, you can switch dairy to soy products for a healthy alternative.
 
By adding balanced minerals, stopping dairy products and eat small meals that could very well eliminate most if not all of your acid reflux problems. If it doesn't, you will need to add daily digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid supplement to help digest your foods properly or you might want to add those two things as another element to preventing reflux.
 
I and many other alternative health practitioners know that when our body has a balance of minerals and vitamins our body will function more efficiently and will not have the cravings that lead to overeating, which sets up a situation for acid reflux also creating a large number of obese acid reflux producing people. I believe as does my friend Wayne Garland, N.D./herbologist, that to be balanced you need the whole 84 minerals and trace minerals. Our country has known for centuries (since 1936) that minerals are the crux of the obese and ill population, see the document 1936 Senate Findings if you haven't read it.

I do know that more than 80% of health problems disappear when people balance their daily minerals and vitamin intake. I've watched hundreds become healthy and happy with two simple steps.. Supplementing "Life Transfusion Ionic Liquid Minerals" and "MegaNutrient MultiFactor formula"...

NO FUTURE IN THE PAST

The man looked a little worried when the doctor came in to administer his annual physical, so the first thing the doctor did was to ask whether anything was troubling him.

"Well, to tell the truth, Doc, yes," answered the patient. "You see, I seem to be getting forgetful. No, it's actually worse than that. I can never remember where I park my car, where I'm going, or what it is I'm going to do once I get there -- if I get there. So, I really need your help. What can I do?"

The doctor mused for a moment, then answered kindly, "Pay me in advance."

Actually, forgetfulness isn't all bad...especially when we decide to forget all that pain from the past that threatens to ruin the present. Like one song says, "There ain't no future in the past."

The past is to be remembered -- how else will we learn from it and keep from repeating it? But why would I want to remember every time I felt hurt because of my spouse, my children, my friends, my boss or anybody else? Why would I want to fill my mind with a detailed catalogue of past pain? Better to remember the times they brought me joy or love or feelings of warmth. Unfortunately, even those wonderful and magical moments too easily fade away.

A friend of Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, asked her about a particular traumatic event in her life. Miss Barton seemed perplexed.

"Can't you remember?" the friend prodded.

Clara Barton replied, "I distinctly remember forgetting it."

Dwell on the past -- but not the negative past, not the pain of the past nor the sadness. Dwell on the good. Be consumed by past joys and obsessed with gratitude. Dwell upon the moments that uplifted you, the times you laughed and the memories of love shown to you by friends and family.

Not everything should be remembered, and those who live well know what to forget and what to cherish. Like the song says, "There ain't no future in the past." But there IS joy there. And love. And kindness...if we choose to remember.
