If you enjoy Steve's weekly Motivator let him know and tell him you read it in "A Natural Environmental Health Facts Ask Lena Health Q & A ezine." mailto:Publisher@LifeSupportSystem.com

I answer all health questions to the best of my ability using what I gleaned from 20-years as a Medical Office Nurse and Administrator along with my education in nutritional and alternative modes. I am not a doctor and you should not think of me as one. Just lived many years of life while  observing life and the world around me...

Q & A is for your information and education only and in some instances to give you a different perspective on a particular problem!

My wish for you, in the use of the information gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in  addition to... Even though I daily watch people become healthy with the information imparted nothing works 100% of the time for 100% of people...

I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope that will be your attitude as well!

ANSWER
:

This is rare in one so young but not unheard of... Yes, that can be painful... Tietze Syndrome, an old term that I thought had been discarded is widely known as Costochondritis a syndrome of chest wall pain that is said to be caused by inflammation of the cartilage and bones in the chest wall. This problem occurs when there is inflammation at the junction of the rib bone and breastbone (sternum). At this junction, of the sternum there is cartilage joining these bones. This cartilage can become irritated and inflamed. That is the medical worlds explanation of her problem but one thing they do not even look at nor do they recognize that a mineral imbalance will appear with the same symptoms...

Very painful regardless of the reason and can go on for quite sometime unless it isn't taken care of... You do not say if her doctor has given her antibiotics... Some do and some don't the majority will usually leave it to run its course without antibiotics... If she is on antibiotics and the pain continues after the first few days of taking them you can bet it is most likely a mineral imbalance and will require sufficient minerals in the form of large amounts of high mineral content food or a mineral supplement that should contain the full 84 minerals and trace minerals...

Bone pain can be excruciating when the minerals in the body are so out of balance... This may spread to other parts of the body as all the bones and tendons will start to be damaged because of the insufficiency... I have seen this type of pain disappear almost overnight with just the right mineral supplement... That requires ongoing daily mineral intake in a balance that the body can use properly... Life Transfusion Liquid Minerals is just such a balance... I don't know if you can get anything close to that in your area... It must be a ocean based 84 minerals and trace minerals to be properly balanced and utilized correctly...

If the minerals do not curb it in one or two days, due to deterioration for bone and/or cartilage, it may require Dr. Garland's Skeletal Support and Structural Lubrication Formulas... These work to heal and stop pain at the same time... She will need to take at least one bottle of each along with the minerals and possibly two... Most times it is only for a few weeks but I've seen it go on for many months when left to run its course... Make sure she is getting plenty of sea salt in her food as well as plenty of fruits and vegetables... Organic is preferable as they have more nutrients, but if she is severely mineral deficient the nutrients in her foods cannot be utilized by the body as they should be and she will not notice a big difference for a very long time without supplementing...

Since obviously you do not have the above supplements at hand immediately you may be able to find a mineral bath house or spring near you, if so get her in one a couple of times a day for a week or two soaking for at least 20 to 30 minutes at a time... This will help a great deal until you can obtain the supplements...

I do hope she will be better soon,
Lena

REGULAR MAINTENANCE

A Kansas cyclone hit a farmhouse just before dawn one morning. It lifted the roof off, picked up the beds on which a farmer and his wife slept, and set them down gently in the next county.

The wife began to cry.

"Don't be scared, Mary," her husband comforted. "We're not hurt."

Mary continued to cry. "I'm not scared," she responded between sobs. "I'm happy - 'cause this is the first time in 14 years we've been out together."

I find that little things, such as too little time and attention, will hurt an intimate relationship (marriage, parent-child, or close friendships) more than anything else. We can usually get through the times of crisis; it's neglect that often destroys closeness and intimacy.

In his book The Romance Factor, Alan Loy McGinnis says the longer we postpone maintenance, the faster the rate of deterioration. He writes this: "I see that principle operating in families every day. Many couples who have come to my office with their marriages in shreds did not start fighting about unsolvable problems. Their marriages were not suffering from major malfunctions, but merely from a series of small deteriorations that a little adjusting and tightening could have corrected. But people had lost interest and had turned their attention to other things: children; careers; tennis; decorating their homes."

I don't know of anything of value that does not require time, attention and lots of maintenance! In one week's time I once worked on two plumbing problems at home, caulked bathroom tile, replaced a heating element on the dryer and another on the stove. At the same time my car needed two new tires, windshield wipers, a battery, new brakes and a starter motor.

But everything of value requires maintenance. And I am in trouble when my home or automobile receives more attention than my closest relationships. Even if a marriage is made in heaven, the maintenance must be done on earth.

Mother Teresa said, "The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread." Lack of regular maintenance will turn your valuable relationship from an ideal into an ordeal. But daily maintenance - spending enough time, listening and touching, laughing and caring - will keep you close. And isn't that what you're hungering for?

FOOD OF THE WEEK

Pa what?

The papaya has a reputation as the fruit of the angels given that name by Christopher Columbus. Considered an exotic fruit, they can now be found in markets throughout the year. Although there is a bit of a seasonal peak in early summer and fall, papaya trees produce fruit year round.

Papaya Fruit, often called Paw Paw, Mamao, and Tree Melon, grows on what is usually referred to as a tree. But the Papaya plant is actually a large herb growing to heights of up to thirty feet with a hollow green stem becoming up to a foot and a half thick at the base. The leaves emerge directly from the upper part of the stem in a spiral. Both the stem and leaves contain copious white milky latex. Generally, the fruit is melon-like, oval to nearly round. The skin is waxy and thin but fairly tough. When the fruit is green and hard it is rich in white latex. As it ripens, it becomes yellow externally and the thick wall of flesh becomes aromatic, yellow, orange or various shades of red. It is then juicy, sweet and somewhat like cantaloupe in flavor.  Papaya's seeds are edible, although their peppery flavor is somewhat bitter. The fruit, as well as the other parts of the papaya tree, contain papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins. This enzyme is especially concentrated in the fruit when it is unripe. Papain is extracted to make digestive enzyme dietary supplements.

Rutgers University study on fruits and their nutrient values found that the Papaya came in second on their list. Is not on the list of 20 foods that most frequently contain pesticide residue or in the allergy realm of foods.

It contains; Vitamin C, folate, dietary fiber, vitamins E, A, B2 & B5, potassium, magnesium of which all are necessary to our health and beside tasty and good the Papaya is very low in calories...

Since this isn't a fruit that is one of the popularly consumed fruits thought I would give you some ideas of how to serve papaya... They can be eaten as is, added to a fruit salad or to a host of different recipes.

One of the easiest and most natural ways to eat papaya is; After washing the fruit, cut it lengthwise, scoop out the seeds and then eat it with a spoon. For a little extra zest, you can squeeze lemon or lime juice on top. Very sweet and tasty!

To cut papaya into smaller pieces for fruit salad or recipes, first peel it with a paring knife and then cut into desire size and shape. You can also use a melon baller to scoop out the fruit of a halved papaya. If you are adding it to a fruit salad, you should do so just before serving as it tends to cause the other fruits to become very soft.

While most people discard the big black seeds, they are actually edible and have a delightful peppery flavor. They can be chewed whole or blended into a creamy salad dressing, giving it a peppery flavor.

Mix diced papaya, cilantro, jalapeno peppers and ginger together to make a unique salsa that goes great with shrimp, scallops and halibut.

Sprinkle papaya with fresh lime juice and enjoy as is.

Slice a small papaya lengthwise and fill with fruit salad.

In a blender, combine papaya, strawberries and yogurt for a cold soup treat.
