ASK LENA HEALTH Q & A
EDITION!
====================================
Today's question doesn't relate to an illness as
such but a question that hopefully will keep people from
being mislead in regards to Typhoid Immunizations, for
those who choose to have them. There is a lot of
misleading information online and people won't check out
the incorrect information as they should and false
claims will circulate that shouldn't.
The answers
to questions submitted to me each week come from my 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along
with many years and ongoing education in nutritional and alternative
treatment modes. Add that to
many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland,
a very knowledgeable naturopath and herbologist, who
many years ago, beat his cancer death sentence given by
the traditional medical world, has helped along the
alternatives
path and
hopefully help to give hope to those who need it... Also
receiving a lot of study reports and try to ascertain
if they are good or bad then report them to you, which
has increased my knowledge along the way and I pass them on to you to
use or not...
I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of
me as one!!
My years observing life and health of the many
people/patients around me and the contradictions of the
traditional medical world's idea of treating -
prescription domino effect - while watching those same
schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but
creating far more health problems than they help. Those same medical
professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy
or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for
something to change that premise for myself and those
around me. In looking outside the Westernized medical
profession I found and continue to find alternatives
that really work to create health and longevity - when
adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical
world can do...
Ask Lena Health Questions and Answers is for your
information and education only and in some instances to
give you a different perspective on a particular
problem! My wish for you, in the use of the information
gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and
safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm
it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in
addition to... Even though I daily watch people become
healthy with the information imparted here nothing works
100% of the time for 100% of people...
I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a
problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope
that will be your attitude as well!

QUESTION:
Do you know why aspartame is contained in
Typhim Vi vaccine?
Is it only in the oral vaccine and not the injectible?
regards,
Gary D
ANSWER:
Hi Gary, thank you for the question. Is
this something that is being circulated around; if not
where did you find that Aspartame is in those vaccines?
I am unable to verify that aspartame is contained in
Typhoid vaccines, which is what Typhim Vi, Ty21a, ViCPS
or Vivotif supposedly prevents. I found sweeteners
sucrose (table sugar) and fructose (derived
from tree fruit, berries and beets) No mention of
Sucralose (aspartame and Splenda), in either
the injectable (SubQ or IM) or oral capsules.
BUT I do have so many things against any of the typhoid
vaccines, oral or injectable?
First, I found varied studies that say its ?33% up to
74% effective if good hygiene is practiced? not good
odds in my thinking and good hygiene will do just as
well and maybe better. Second, some really lame
contraindications that make no sense to me says "Not
to be given to individuals taking certain medications -
the list was very long - or have weakened immune
systems". Another dumb statement was; "doesn't
work with Salmonella type". Now I couldn't find any
other type of typhoid caused by anything other than two
strains of Salmonella, so I would say if it doesn't work
against Salmonella this whole vaccine premise is bogus!
That about wraps up my objections to the vaccines!
Interesting information found in attempting to answer
your questions were:
From Avantis Pasteur and FDA websites here is what the
two types of vaccines are reportedly made up of with my
comments to help you better understand in ( );
[Typhim Vi₨,
Typhoid Vi Polysaccharide Vaccine, for intramuscular
use, is a sterile solution containing the cell surface
Vi polysaccharide from Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi,
S typhi Ty2 strain. The organism is grown in a
semi-synthetic medium without animal proteins. The
capsular polysaccharide extracted (is
carbohydrates limited to those polymers which contain 10
or more monosaccharide residues. Polysaccharides such as
starch, glycogen, and dextran - a branched polymer of
glucose - consist of several thousand D-glucose units.)
is precipitated from the concentrated culture
supernatant by the addition of
hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (an
antiseptic/preservative) and the product is purified
by differential centrifugation and precipitation. The
potency of the purified polysaccharide is assessed by
molecular size and O-acetyl (pectin) content.
Phenol, 0.25%, is added as a preservative. The vaccine
contains residual polydimethylsiloxane (a silicon
used in making contact lenses, caulking, lubricating
oils and heat resistant tiles) or fatty-acid
ester-based antifoam. The vaccine is a clear, colorless
solution. Each dose of 0.5 mL is formulated to contain
25 ?g of purified Vi polysaccharide in a colorless
isotonic phosphate buffered saline (pH 7 ? 0.3), 4.150
mg of Sodium Chloride, 0.065 mg of Disodium Phosphate,
0.023 mg of Monosodium Phosphate and 0.5 mL of Sterile
Water for Injection.]
A lot of their description was Greek to me and took
me some time to search out the meanings of the chemicals
listed, but I did not find Sucralose, the description of
aspartame, which is what aspartame and Splenda are...
I would have a big problem with allowing any vaccine
into my body with those chemicals but the most lethal to
me is polydimethylsiloxane - a silicon used in
making contact lenses, caulking, lubricating oils and
heat resistant tiles. Why would I want that in me or
anyone else for that matter?
Then there is the Oral vaccine, and again I could not
find Sucralose as an ingredient.
[Vivotif Oral is an oral, live, attenuated typhoid
vaccine for active immunization against typhoid and
contains Salmonella typhistrain Ty21a. (See above
contents) Each enteric coated capsule contains no fewer
than 2 x 109viable organisms.
The attenuated Ty21a strain is a mutant of Salmonella
typhi, which is deficient in the enzyme UDP-4-galactose
epimerase (A sugar contained in milk. Galactose
makes up half of the sugar called lactose that is found
in milk. Lactose is called a disaccharide, di meaning 2,
since lactose is made up of two sugars, galactose and
glucose, bound together). This results in the
organisms being unable to effectively metabolize
galactose. When grown in the presence of adequate
amounts of galactose, the organism accumulates
galactose-containing metabolites and ultimately
undergoes spontaneous lysis (splitting of cells).
In the presence of a restricted supply of galactose the
organism develops the smooth lipopolysaccharide coat (external
fever-inducing compound and protecting the membrane from
certain kinds of chemical attack) believed to be
necessary for immune response. In the intestine, where
galactose is normally present, it is however unable to
survive for long. The vaccine strain cannot be detected
in the stools after 3 days following oral ingestion.
Vivotif Berna Vaccine Delayed-Release Capsules is a
vaccine. It works by stimulating the immune system of
the person who receives the vaccine to make their own
protective antibodies against this disease.]
Have your read a letter to the
FDA in 2004 regarding Typhim Vi? Very enlightening.
And if you read my weekly newsletter or ezine you
know I cannot let the chance of offering alternative
solutions go by...
A simple alternative to either the injectable or oral.
Since Typhoid is a Salmonella bacteria strengthen the
stomach and intestines with
Digestive Enzymes and Probiotics, which will build
80% of the immune system and complete the other 20% by
balanced minerals. No need to take things with the
possibility of horrific side effects and may not work at
all...
Yes, I know that is probably not feasible in the
countries where Typhoid lives but it is a great thought!
It could be possible and for less money than pushing the
Typhim Vi and soon to be oral push.
If you should have any comments on this be sure and let
me know!
Paragraph #1 was a question regarding Aspartame in
Typhoid immunizations and Gary's reply to my question
was;
Thanks for your reply, Lena. If you google "aspartame
ingredients", you will find many pages (often exact
text) listing ingredients of various vaccines, some of
which have sucrose or aspartame as an ingredient (e.g.
http://www.global-elite.org/node/442).
I ran across your site and thought you might be able to
answer the question my brother asked me, "why sweeteners
in vaccines?".
This article lists oral vaccine Typhin IV as using
"Lactose sweetened with aspartame":
http://www.clovelly.org.uk/documents/typhoid2.html.
Which has since kicked in with a broken link
noticed when clicked on and I don't know if that is
permanent or temporary. Luckily it was up when first
sent to me so I had a chance to evaluate the information.
My reply to Gary:
I don't know where that
http://www.clovelly.org.uk/documents/typhoid2.html got
its information unless they mistakenly think sucrose is
aspartame. And all the links at
http://www.clovelly.org.uk/documents/typhoid2.html.
gives only indications, contraindications and efficacy
but no actual ingredients listed as the drug companies
would list them... Appears to me to be paraphrasing and
possibly putting their own thoughts into it or
incorrectly thinking sucrose is sucralose... Their
first link gives the appearance of cdc.gov but if you
look closely it is wwwn.cdc.gov - notice the wwwn. is
not the legitimate site for cdc.gov but reroutes to one
that looks official... I did not find Sucralose or
aspartame listed on any of the drug companies or fda.gov
ingredient lists. Sucrose is plain old white table sugar
and aspartame is Sucralose, very similar and I guess
some could make that mistake, hopefully not making
erroneous statements on purpose to mislead, I know most
people will never check them out for accuracy... I
happen to believe that almost correct isn't good enough
and I want 100% accuracy. Mistakes can be made - I'm as
guilty as the next one in making mistakes but never on
purpose - but I don't know if theirs is mistake or
misleading?
I hope its a mistake...

And You Think Your Doctor Knows Best?
Example of
why that could be a wrong assumption: Reported
in
Pediatrics, researchers at Winthrop University
Hospital in Mineola, N.Y., surveyed 161 physicians about
how they treat fevers. Most doctors said they start
treatment when a young patient's temperature reaches 101
degrees.
And half said they alternated between doses of
acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil or Nuprin).
When the doctors were asked why they switched
between those two drugs, almost a third said they were
following a recommendation by the American Academy of
Pediatrics.
But according to the researchers, the American Academy
of Pediatrics never issued any such advisory. In fact,
the study's authors say, there have been no definitive
studies on the best way to treat a fever -- in either
children or adults.

GOOD FRIENDS ARE GOOD MEDICINE
Our news is constantly filled with
the reality of death and dying. And each of us, if we
live long enough, experiences the loss of persons we
loved.
Children ages eight through ten were asked what they
thought about death, and these are some of their
answers:
"When you die, God takes care of you like your mother
did when you were alive - only God doesn't yell at you
all the time." (Beth, 9)
"When you die, they bury you in the ground and your soul
goes to heaven, but your body can't go to heaven because
it's too crowded up there already." (Jimmy, 8)
"Only the good people go to heaven. The other people go
where it's hot all the time like in Florida." (Judy, 9)
"Maybe I'll die someday, but I hope I don't die on my
birthday because it's no fun to celebrate your birthday
if you're dead." (Jon, 9)
"I'm not afraid to die because I'm a Boy Scout." (Kevin,
10)
"Doctors help you so you won't die until you pay their
bills." (Stephanie, 9)
I've observed that the loss of a loved one can be one of
the most difficult things we humans can face. And one of
our greatest needs as we experience such a loss is for
simple, human comfort. I've known friends of sick and
dying people to sit by a bedside or in a hospital room
for hours, even days, at a time. I've sometimes heard
them offer words of prayer. I've seen food in homes of
people who are dying overflow from kitchen to dining
room - food brought by comforting friends from church
and concerned neighbors. And I've observed friends to
just listen for as long as it takes. Caring friends are
needed medicine in such times.
When U.S. Congressman Sam Rayburn (1882-1961) discovered
that he was ill, he announced to the House of
Representatives he was going back home to Bonham, Texas
for medical tests. Some wondered why he did not stay in
Washington D. C. where there were excellent medical
facilities -- probably some of the best in the world.
His answer was a beautiful tribute to friendship:
"Bonham is a place where people know it when you're
sick, and where they care when you die."
No one wants to go through difficult times alone. So
Rayburn traded the best of medical technology for the
closeness of loving friends. He knew that good friends
are good medicine. Sometimes the best
medicine there is.
