QUESTION:

Hello Lena,

I think I have an infection because I've been having this itching in my vagina since on the 12th of this month, i.e. 3 days now and I'm not comfortable with it. And this morning I've been noticing some seed-like discharge without an odour though, but I'm still not comfortable with it at all. I noticed a tiny particles of blood this morning when I washed my vagina and my genital is a little bit swollen.

I am a young lady of 25 and single.

Now my question is this:

1.      How did I get this infection because I never had intercourse?
2.      What is the name of this infection?
3.      How can I be cured and what must I do or take to be cured? And
4.      How do I prevent it from occurring again?

Please I need an urgent response to this because I'm feeling very uncomfortable.

Thank you very much.
Grace.

ANSWER:

This question is asked frequently. I answered Grace immediately so she already has this but since so many young girls are asking the same thing I think it should be published?

Hi Grace,

To start with it sounds very much like a vaginal yeast infection, which is very common in women and indicative that other parts of your body is being over run by yeast as well.

You do not have to have intercourse to get a vaginal yeast infection, all you have to do is kill the natural flora (probiotics) in your intestinal system and body. Your body is made up of bacteria of which there should be a proper balance of good bacteria to overcome bad bacteria when it invades your body. When the good bacteria is decreased it gives yeast a platform to grow in, as yeast isn't easy to kill therefore overgrows fast when given the chance...

Killing good bacteria in the body is done by one or more means.
1. Most common culprit is too much sugar and fats in your diet. (Soda's and sugary treats and fast foods are the major contributor to so many yeast infections running wild.)
2. Taking any one of several OTC or prescribed medications such as antibiotics, anti inflammatories (aspirin, ibuprofen, tylenol, etc.) which kill the natural flora.
3. Wearing too tight clothing while doing the above
.

How to combat a yeast infection? It can be simple and easy. There are several ways but I have found Ionic Silver Water to be the fastest... You will need to put 1 Tablespoon of Ionic Silver Water in 1 quart of warm water and douche as well and take a teaspoon of Ionic Silver Water by mouth three times a day for 2 days. That usually will kill the yeast BUT if you don't re-propagate your intestinal tract with probiotics to kill the overabundance of yeast your vaginal problem will come back in a few days or weeks...

An alternative natural treatment is to insert into your vaginal area plain unsweetened, unflavored yogurt as well as consume plain unflavored, unsweetened yogurt for several days, messy and slow but effective.

For an immediate relief from the pain, and you probably don't have any of the above, you can douche with 1 Tablespoon white or cider vinegar in a quart of warm water two or three times a day. This will help the pain and raw sores that the yeast creates in your vaginal area... Will not kill the yeast or re-propagate your probiotics, simply pain control only...

Again if you do not rebuild the probiotic balance it will continue to occur...

If these do not work you should see a Gynecologist for the problem, but I'm quite sure that won't be necessary if you follow the instructions above...

There are also OTC medications but I do not recommend them as it doesn't aptly correct the problem and helps to overload the liver and kidneys, which should be avoided at all costs as your foods, water and body care products all contain pesticides, hormones and chemicals that already is doing that and nobody knows how much of an overload will lead to serious health problem... Hence the reason for so much cancer and chronic illnesses... I prefer to err on the safe side and not use chemicals in any phase if I can help it...

I hope this answers your question and helps.

QUESTION #2:

Hi my name is Naomi and I was wondering what are your thoughts on Herbalife products concerning weightloss and health issues?  Have you had any experience with them?
Thank you
Naomi
Australia

ANSWER:

Thank you for the question Naomi. Since your email with this answer was returned to me I do hope you read your answer here today and understand why you didn't hear from me?

Herbalife is a good company with good intentions and good products for the most part. I cannot say how great their weightloss program is as I have not tried it nor am I acquainted with anyone who has. I can only say that in my research I find that their herbs are not organic and some of their products are not totally plant based. So care must be taken to use products that are organic and natural/plant based for best results as chemical residue in herbs will change the way your body utilizes them...I use to live close to Herbalife fields in California and drove by their plant quite frequently, how I know they are not organic, but that is the closest experience I've had with them. Naturally I believe Dr. Garland's weight loss products are better but then I'm prejudiced in that fact because I am totally familiar and know what is in them and what they do from experiences of myself and many people I know, over the last 10 years of using them...

Sorry I can't give you a more definitive opinion.
Lena

LET GO OR GET DRAGGED

The name "Benedict Arnold" is synonymous with "traitor." But he was actually a loyal citizen of what was to become the United States, a gallant soldier and a five-star general. Wounded twice in battle, he was highly respected for his military leadership. He even enjoyed the friendship of George Washington.

But during the Revolutionary War, Arnold saw five subordinates promoted over him, and the blow to his esteem was more than he could manage. The injury to his pride was far greater than those physical injuries he sustained in battle. So he laid plans to get revenge.

In 1780, he attempted to betray vital West Point to the British. He later moved to England and was paid a sum of money to
compensate for his property loss, but he was never fully accepted in British society. He eventually returned to trading and died a mostly unsuccessful and unhappy man. His downfall was not greed -- his problem was rather one of jealousy.

Do you know who is the most difficult person to love? It is easy to love friends and not too difficult to love those less
fortunate than ourselves. It certainly isn't easy loving enemies, but sometimes the person most difficult to love is the one who is MORE fortunate than we are. The one who receives the promotion we deserved. The one who gets the recognition we desired, the honor we sought or the affections of the lover we had hoped to win. It is easy to resent those who seem to be more fortunate.

But as one person said to me, "Let go, or get dragged. Unless you let things go, you should be prepared to have that thing drag you around until you do let it go." Even envy. Let it go or get dragged.

Besides, if you ever want to grab onto something good, you'll need a free hand.

FOOD OF THE WEEK
=================

Phaseolus vulgaris,

Legumes of all kinds are great foods and should be eaten at least twice a week for greater health. Black beans, botanically-known as Phaseolus vulgaris, are native to the Americas. One of over 500 varieties of kidney beans, black beans are also known as turtle beans, caviar criollo, black Spanish beans, Tampico beans, Venezuelan beans and frijoles negros. These beans date back at least 7,000 years when they were a staple food in the diets of Central and South Americans.

Black beans are about the size of a pea, up to 1/2-inch long, with the slightly less-pronounced boat-shape common to kidney beans.

The darker the bean the more the antioxidant content. Out of all the bean family black beans win with the most nutrients.

Black beans are an amazing food! One-half cup of cooked black beans has as many antioxidants as two glasses of red wine. Not only that but they are packed with fiber and folate, which are touted to be great at reducing the risk of heart disease. Black beans, as all dried beans, are also good sources of starches, fiber, B vitamins, iron, zinc, phosphorus, complex carbohydrates and calcium. About half of the calcium is lost during cooking. High percentages of the other nutrients remain however, even after cooking.

All legumes are high in protein, and black beans are no exception. Dried beans are important sources of protein in vegetarian diets, and in areas where animal protein is scarce or expensive. However, this protein is incomplete (does not contain all 9 amino acids), so grains (which provide the missing amino acids) must also be a significant part of the strictly vegetarian diet. In the areas where common beans originated (Central America and southern Mexico) corn and squash supplied the missing amino acids and additional source of vitamins.

Before cooking, be sure to pick through them, picking out any small pebbles, split and withered beans and any other foreign matter. (Beans from the Rockies and Pacific coast tend to have more adobe (bits of clay) and stones). It is also helpful to cover the beans with cold water, let sit for 5 minutes and remove anything that floats. Repeat to be sure all dirt and foreign matter is removed.  Drain and ready to cook

Here is one great way of eating black beans.

Bean, Barley & Avocado Summer Salad

This can be refrigerated and stored for several days!

1 cup carrot juice
½ teasp. Thyme
½ teasp. Sea salt
1/8 teasp. Ground Cayenne pepper
1.2 cup quick-cooking barley
3 Tablespoons Lime or Lemon Juice
1 Tablespoon Virgin Olive Oil
1 can (9 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup diced tomatoes
½ cup diced avocado

Combine carrot juice, thyme, sea salt and cayenne in a saucepan. Bring to boil over medium heat; add barley and reduce to a simmer. Cover with lid and simmer until barley is cooked, approx. 15 minutes.

While beans are simmering whisk lime/lemon juice and oil in a large bowl. Add barley when cooked and any liquid remaining in the barley. Toss to coat all.
Add beans, tomatoes and avocado, toss to mix well. Serve on a lettuce leaf.

Enjoy your healthy beans,
Lena
