Steve's Motivator this week, "
ATTRACTING PEOPLE TO YOU" A touch of humor but some good advice with it... If you enjoy Steve's weekly Motivator let him know and tell him you read it in "A Natural Environmental Health Facts Ask Lena Health Q & A ezine." mailto:Publisher@LifeSupportSystem.com

I answer all health questions to the best of my ability using what I gleaned from 20-years as a Medical Office Nurse and Administrator along with my education in nutritional and alternative modes. I am not a doctor and you should not think of me as one. Just lived many years while observing the life and health of many in the world around me...

Q & A is for your information and education only and in some instances to give you a different perspective on a particular problem!

My wish for you, in the use of the information gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in  addition to... Even though I daily watch people become healthy with the information imparted nothing works 100% of the time for 100% of people...

I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope that will be your attitude as well!

QUESTION:

Dear Lena,

My wife and I thoroughly enjoy reading your articles on how to cure the common problems that afflict so many. Thank you for being a light for us! It seems that allergies are taking over my house and I'm at a loss as to what we can do about it. Could you advise me? The nose is running and sneezing seems to take over whether we are indoors or outside?

I thought that some good strong natural herbal teas would help reduce it but no such luck. I also want to know if there are any good teas that we can drink for our allergies.

My wife saw her doctor but her Doctor gave her a prescription for Allegra out of all things. Well to make a long story short, this is not working for her very well and therefore I am writing you in the hopes we can get some sound advise on how to treat allergies in order to reduce them completely, if at all possible.

Any and all information you can provide us would be most appreciated.

Your help is appreciated,
Robert T.

ANSWER:

Thanks for your questions Robert!

Since you don't mention headaches, low grade fever or other allergy symptoms I would hazard a guess that you guys are suffering from Hay Fever, a seasonal allergic reaction to the pollens in the air is making you miserable... This happens when the immune system isn't functioning as it should...

I am not aware of any individual commercial herbal tea that absolutely works. Herbs help the body to readjust and heal the immune system, when given the right ones, but it takes time for that to happen. Herbs do not treat symptoms in the same way as Westernized medicine, they help heal. And it usually takes a combination of several herbs to do the job right. As a reminder and at the risk of repeating myself, nothing will work very well unless the body has the proper minerals to help with whatever a body is ingesting... read this article > ABC's of Minerals

The immune system has to be cleaned and repaired for lasting effectiveness!

You can try 1/4 teaspoon grated fresh Ginger and 1/8 teaspoon horseradish with 2 teaspoons of organic honey steeped in 8 - 10 ounces of boiling water for 10 minutes, This can be strong and you may not like it, but it will cut to the bone of the symptoms fast, just won't cure the problem.

The herb Feverfew helps with the some of the symptoms but doesn't really treat the problem at the moment either...

Sadly the traditional medical world only treats symptoms and not prevention or correction... Their prescriptions only have to be 20% effective at treating symptoms to be allowed, on the market by the FDA... That means only 20% will benefit but 80% will not...

Here is something else you and/or she can make that can help.

Immune building syrup:

1 bulb of fresh garlic, peeled and then crushed.
1 cup of organic black honey. (Other honey can be used.)
1 fresh lemon, quartered, WITH skin.
Place the crushed garlic, honey and the lemon in a blender.
Blend the contents until smooth.
Pour into a glass jar with a good lid for storage. Can refrigerate it or not...

DOSAGE:
Gives strength to the immune system, 1 teaspoon 3 times per day. Follow with 8-ounces of water.
If a person is fighting cancer, TB, polio, a severe cold, have symptoms of SARS, AIDS/HIV or any life threatening illness, the dosage should be higher (1 teaspoon 9 times a day) always followed by a glass of filtered/purified water, not distilled water.

This immune building mixture is delicious served in a hot cup of soy, rice, millet or cashew milk.
Heat the milk until about to boil. Turn off heat and place Syrup in the milk and stir. This is a good way to start the day and/or to have before retiring.

If that doesn't reverse it I am taking the liberty of adding what I know works with Wayne Garland's Master Formulas (Severe allergies may take much longer) Immune Building protocol;

**Before starting this you must do a complete one day fast and only drink fresh whole (not canned or bottles) juices for that day, no solid foods. This will boost the immune system cleaning helping create an atmosphere for it toward becoming more balanced...

This Wayne Garland Protocol works for about 90% that follow the protocol...

*Start your day with Life Transfusion Ionic Liquid minerals in 4 to 6 ozs.  juice. (V8, carrot, cucumber, tomato, orange, lemon or other fresh squeezed juice of your choice.) This is the key to absorption and immune building...

*Salads (no iceberg lettuce it doesn't have the same nutritional value of deep, green lettuce like green romaine, red leaf, etc.) at least one big green salad a day... Choose from a variety of Cucumbers, Bean Sprouts, Carrots, Celery, Broccoli, Cauliflower, mushrooms, Snow Peas, Parsley, Alfalfa Sprouts are really good. - Look for greenhouse or vine ripened tomatoes.
*Shop organic where possible to avoid pesticides and other harmful chemicals.
*Use Barlean's Flax Seed Oil, www.barleans.com or from the health food store, mixed with lemon as salad dressing.

*Make your food simple, no fancy sauces - A piece of grilled, hormone/pesticide free chicken, turkey or fish with salad and vegetables for instance.

*Spice up your meals with crushed garlic, shallots, onions and herbs.

*Eliminate all milk from cows. No cheese. No ice cream. This overloads the I.S. with chemicals and hormones... Switch to soy milk instead, soy butter and soy ice cream. The VitaSoy brand is Dr. Garland's choice of the best.

*One or two meals a week can be 1/2 cup brown rice steamed with vegetable broth and spices and steamed veggies. Drizzle the liquid essential acids "Bragg's Liquid Amino" over the rice and veggies. Or a bowl of Miso Soup with vegetables.

*Make herb teas and your drinks of choice with fresh lemon squeezed into them with purified water (not distilled water--purified water!) . If you do not have a water filter in your home check out Purification/Filtration Units

*Veggie omelets made with egg whites, veggies of your choice and soy cheese on occasion. Remember, NO DAIRY, you are not a calf and dairy has too many chemicals and hormones that will only suppress the immune system!

*Avoid all food that is white -- these are poison and bleached with chlorine. NO WHITE SUGAR AND NO WHITE FLOUR. (That does not mean substitute aspartame or other chemical sweeteners, Stevia works great and is natural and healthy for you!) Least expensive Stevia I've found is at http://www.vitacost.com Dates make a great sweetener as well?

*No White Rice, bread or crackers.

*Eliminate all fried food, preferably forever!

*Avoid all pork, bacon, ham, sausages, deli meats and pepperoni, or prepared boxed or bagged foods, they are laced with nitrates and MSG.

* Have "
Emperor's ChiŽ Tea" Morning and noon with early evening cup 1 tablespoon per 8 ounce cup of hot water (may also be drunk cold),  Respiratory Support 3 capsules three times a day for two weeks then 2 capsules three times a week until condition reverses and some have to take Respiratory for six to nine months, then repeat a bottle every three months. Add Immune Support 2-3 capsules three times a day, for a complete makeover of the immune system, which is what creates allergies when the I.S. is so out of whack and not functioning to it's potential...

This is a rather long answer but since I know of no real herbal tea drinks that work well for allergies I feel this is a best bet for any allergy sufferer.

Dr. Garland and I believe that anyone over the age of 10 or 12 years should be on total balanced minerals on a daily basis... Every study I've read over the last ten years has found one or more minerals lacking in every diseased body, only goes to prove what we've known for many more years than that... Read > Ionic Minerals The Key

Hope this helps answer your question,
Lena

ATTRACTING PEOPLE TO YOU

In West Virginia folklore there is a story of a country doctor who was called out to a holler late one night to assist a woman about to give birth. By the time the doctor arrived at the farmhouse, things had progressed to a point where the doctor asked the husband to help him by holding a gas lantern up high in order to illuminate the makeshift delivery room.

Before long, the courageous mother delivered a healthy baby boy. As the father lowered the lantern, the doctor barked an order to keep the lantern aloft: "We're not done yet." Shortly, a second child appeared on the scene, a healthy baby girl. Shaken by the unexpected arrival of twins, the father heard the doctor say once again, "We can't stop now. It looks as if it's going to be triplets." To which the stunned father, still holding the lantern high, replied, "Do you think it's the light that's attracting them?"

Light has a quality of attraction. I recently left my office door open late one afternoon in our mountain home and, at dusk, the light from within attracted -- a hummingbird! (Coaxing a hummingbird out of the house is a little like pushing a rope. Mostly, whatever you do doesn't work.)

You, too, have a light that attracts...an inner light. Not visible to the naked eye, but apparent just the same. We speak of a "twinkle" in the eye or a "flicker" of warmth in the heart. Some people shine with a light of kindness. Others emit a light of hope. There are those who glow with enthusiasm and still others who radiate love.

Almost all creatures are drawn to light, including humans. Do you want to attract people to you? Positive and life-affirming inner qualities can attract people like a warm fire on a cold night. What will draw other people to you best cannot be purchased in any department store. They will respond to that which radiates from within.

You may not always see it, but your light is shining through. And it's one of your most attractive qualities!

FOOD OF THE WEEK
=================

Olea europaea L

Now available at Parthenon Foods... This little healthy food is harvested almost year round in some part of the world. Some people may tell you it's too fattening and should be avoided if you want to lose weight. Too much of any good thing can be fattening and it is the same with this little food...

When my grandchildren were younger they liked to use this week's food as finger fun. Each finger would have a black or green one slipped on one or all fingers of both hands and used them as fun food, waving them and plucking one at a time off a finger and into their mouth. Some mom's would find this disgusting but I find that children use all kinds of things for play that can invariably end up good for them and if it takes playing a bit to get them to eat well, so be it! That was the beginning of introducing my grandchildren to olives and they learned to love them just because they could have fun with it... Now they are growing up and I don't see that behavior any longer but still fondly remember chiding them that food wasn't a toy but secretly admiring their ability to make fun out of every aspect of life...

The olive - Olea europaea L. - is a subtropical evergreen tree or shrub with leaves that are waxy green on top and grayish green on the bottom. Young bark is green, but older bark is gray. In the Mediterranean, olive trees are known to live for over a thousand years. If the top is damaged, a new tree will sprout from underground parts. The olive tree gives us great food and health nutrients! Olive trees have been cultivated for thousands of years, and were already plentiful during biblical times. Tracing it back to Biblical times when a branch in a dove's mouth sent Noah the message that dry ground existed and he and his family could leave the ark gives us a bit of history. Olives continue to be grown in the Mediterranean area today. The olive was also important to the Greeks and the Romans, who made it a part of their mythologies to celebrate the use of its oil as an essential food and fuel for lamps. The olive leaf extract was also used to prepare the dead for burial.

The conditions for the olive's greatest cultivation is found in Italy and Spain. It was the Spanish who spread the olive to America. Catholic missionaries spread the olive to Mexico and later to California, as well as to South America.

Plucked from the tree, the olive is extremely bitter, and virtually inedible. Prior to eating, olives are typically cured, either in brine, water or in oil. Freshly picked olives can also be stir-fried to remove some of the bitterness before eating.

Over the centuries mankind has produced and propagated a myriad of olive varieties. Today several dozen varieties are grown commercially around the world.  We in the U.S. are lucky that five commercially important varieties are grown in California:

Ascolano Very large, ellipsoidal fruit. Skin color very light even when ripe, pit very small. Fruit is tender and must be handled carefully. Contains very little bitterness and requires only moderate lye treatment. Excellent for pickles, but needs proper aeration during pickling to develop "ripe" color. Tree a heavy bearer, widely adapted.

Barouni Large fruit, almost as large as Sevillano. Trees spreading and easy to harvest. Withstands extremely high temperatures. The variety usually shipped to the East Coast for making home-cured olives. Originally from Tunisia.

Gordal Medium to large, plump fruit, ripening early. Resembles Sevillano. A popular pickling olive and principal cultivar in Spain, producer of most of the world's table olives.

Manzanillo Large, rounded-oval fruit. Skin brilliant purple, changing to deep blue-black when mature. Resists bruising. Ripens early, several weeks earlier than Mission. The pulp parts readily with its bitterness and is exceedingly rich when pickled. Excellent for oil and pickles. Tree spreading, vigorous, a prolific bearer. Deli Fresh Greek Black Olives, 16oz Dr.Wt.

Mission Medium-sized, oval fruit. Skin deep purple changing to jet-black when ripe. Flesh very bitter but firm, freestone. Ripens rather late. Good for pickling and oil, specially ripe pickles. Most widely used for cold-pressed olive oil in California. Tree vigorous, heavy-bearing. More cold resistant than other cultivars. Grown at the old missions in California.

Picholine Small, elongated fruit. Skin light green, changing to wine red, then red-black when ripe. Pulp fleshy, firm-textured. Tree vigorous, medium-sized, bears heavy crops regularly. Cured olives have a delicate, subtle, lightly salty, nut-like flavor. Usually salt-brine cured. Popular in gourmet and specialty markets.

Rubra Medium-small, ovate fruit. Skin jet-black when ripe. Ripens 3 to 4 weeks earlier than Mission. Best suited for oil, but is also used for pickling. Tree large, precocious, often producing fruit the second year. An exceptionally prolific bearer. Very hardy and reliable even in dry situations. Originated in France.

Sevillano Very large fruit, bluish-black when ripe. The largest California commercial variety. Stone large, clinging. Ripens early. Low oil content, only useful in pickling. Used for making Sicilian style salt brine cured olives, also the leading canning cultivar. Tree a strong grower and regular bearer. Require deep, rich, well drained soil. Will not stand much cold.

Known Health Benefits: Click here for more details

FRUIT: First are the fruits processed and eaten either as ripe or pickled. Olives are most widely used in Italian dishes...

LEAF: Olive leaf extract has also been studied for its ability to normalize blood pressure.

The most commonly known use of the olive is its oil:

Widely used and best for our health is the oil pressed from ripe fruit... Like other types of vegetable oils, olive oil contains no cholesterol. Organic virgin oil has 120 calories and 14 grams of fat per tablespoon. The olive oil is important in prevention of heart disease. Its high concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids, compounds decrease blood levels of LDL cholesterol - the type associated with plaque build-up in the arteries - and increase levels of protective HDL cholesterol. The higher amount of monounsaturated fatty acids in olive oil is known to help improve your cardiovascular health. Olive oil is classified mainly by the amount of acidity, as well as the flavor, color and aroma. "Extra virgin" olive oil meets the highest standards for low acidity and rich and fruity taste. It should have less than .8% acidity content. "Pure" olive oil has a lighter color and aroma, and is often used as a general, all-purpose olive oil.

About 40% of the calories in the typical Greek diet come from olive oil. To some that looks like a lot of fat, yet this traditional Mediterranean style of eating -- which emphasizes fish, olive oil, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables -- seems to contribute to the favorably low rates of heart disease among people who live in the countries that ring the Mediterranean Sea. Olives are a great antioxidant bearing food. Both vitamin E and polyphenols act as antioxidants, inhibiting the development of heart disease by reducing the oxygen-related damage along artery walls. An ingredient in olive oil also appears to make the blood less likely to clot, reducing the chance that an errant blood clot will block an artery and lead to a heart attack or stroke.

In our house you will find olive oil as the only oil used and I make my own butter spread by putting one-half butter and one-half olive oil whip it up and into a container and refrigerate it. You cannot tell the difference and it has no artificial anything to make it unhealthy. Try it you will like it!

Eat and enjoy,
Lena
