ASK LENA Q & A
EDITION!
===========================
The answers
to questions submitted each week come from my 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along
with many years and ongoing education in nutritional and alternative
treatment modes. Add that to
many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland,
a very knowledgeable naturopath and herbologist, who
many years ago, beat his cancer death sentence given by
the traditional medical world, has helped along the
alternatives
path and
hopefully help to give hope to those who need it... Also
receiving a lot of study reports and try to ascertain
if they are good or bad then report them to you, which
has increased my knowledge along the way and I pass them on to you to
use or not...
I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of
me as one!!
My years observing life and health of the many
people/patients around me and the contradictions of the
traditional medical world's idea of treating -
prescription domino effect - while watching those same
schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but
creating far more than they help. Those same medical
professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy
or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for
something to change that premise for myself and those
around me. In looking outside the Westernized medical
profession I found and continue to find alternatives
that really work to create health and longevity -when
adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical
world can do...
Ask Lena Health Questions and Answers is for your
information and education only and in some instances to
give you a different perspective on a particular
problem! My wish for you, in the use of the information
gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and
safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm
it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in
addition to... Even though I daily watch people become
healthy with the information imparted here nothing works
100% of the time for 100% of people...
I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a
problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope
that will be your attitude as well!

QUESTION:
1. What is considered "high blood
pressure"?
2. What is the single most preventable cause of death
in the United States?
3. What is an optimal blood cholesterol?
Thank you.
Kathleen
ANSWER:
Today is really three questions and one
I'm okay with that. Whatever it takes to educate will
work for me.
Question # 1: High Blood Pressure Readings?
Before so many high blood pressure medications were on
the market the accepted BP was anything from159/95 to
110/70, huge range but there wasn't the death from heart
attacks and strokes like we have when they lowered the
reading making anything over 128/85 considered high.
Most BP's that I ever checked were in the 150's/80's to
90's range and the majority had no problem with it
running like that... As a person ages the blood
pressure will naturally go higher unless they are
diligent with there diet and exercise. Usually those
below 25 years of age run 110/70 to 120/80.
Question #2: single most preventable cause of
death in the United States?:
Single most preventable? Most would expect cancer to be
the number one cause of death since there are so many
different kinds but it isn't. In my opinion and
according to statistics the # 1 killer is drugs, not
street drugs but most deaths are from prescribed legal
drugs... to prevent that
STOP TAKING PRESCRIPTION CHEMICAL DRUGS for
cholesterol elevation and every ache (headache, etc.)
and heart problems and this will prevent the hundreds of
thousands of yearly deaths from prescription induced
deaths...
#2 leading cause of death; is heart failure/CHF/erratic
heart beat, but in the over 50 group although we are now
seeing a lot more in the 20's to 50's age range. Simply
supplementing daily with
balanced minerals can strengthen and help the heart
to function as it should... I can say that as I have
seen heart rates of 150 drop with one single dose of
balanced minerals. I see all the time erratic heart
beats become steady and even with daily supplementing
Balanced Minerals. Our body's were not created to
recognize chemicals being introduced to them yet we get
so many each day in our foods, the air we breathe and
prescription and over-the-counter drugs we start
ourselves on the way to death of some sort.
Question #3: optimal blood cholesterol?
First let me say cholesterol
is absolutely necessary for your body to function and be
healthy. That said; Cholesterol is dangerous only when
your blood is drawn and it looks creamy instead of red
as it should be. Otherwise everything I learned, from
doctors in the know while I was working in conventional
medical offices, was anything over 300 should be taken
care of with diet and exercise not a drug. That was even
after cholesterol lowering drugs came on the market and
we watched what happened to patients when taking them...
Also anything lower than 150 was consider lethal as the
body cannot function well with less than that and they
liked it higher around 200 or 250. Then the medical
world was totally taken over by the drug industry and
they now dictate what doctors learn or practice, never
mind that what they are taught is dangerous to the
patient. FYI: My husband's cholesterol has run from 300
to 600 for more than 35 years and three years ago - when
his doctor was again arguing with him to try and get him
to take cholesterol drugs before his heart died or he
stroked from blocked arteries due to this years of
so-called uncontrolled cholesterol - he order tests to
prove to my husband that his arteries were in danger
from the cholesterol. What they found after an arterial
ultrasound, which was great so he ordered an arterial
MRI, which was as great as the ultrasound and then an
arteriogram also great, found only 12% plaque in his
arteries. Now the general public's average fat plaque is
20% to 35% at any given time. His doctor has not said a
thing to him since about taking statin drugs... As my
grandmother use to say, "The proof is in the pudding!"
when something was very good... My husband's mother has
extreme high cholesterol until her death at 95 years of
age... We figure it was high her whole life but they
didn't start doing cholesterol testing until the late
70's but not really popular until the late 80's so we
will never know for sure...
That's my beliefs and I'm stickin to 'em!

Thought for the Day
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
In a 2006 Life Extension magazine article, author Laurie
Barclay, M.D., catalogued a number of studies that
explored the heart-protective effect of vitamin C from
dietary and supplements sources.
-
Harvard School of Public Health researchers examined
the association between vitamin C intake and the
risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in more than
85,000 women who participated in the Nurses' Health
Study
-
Food frequency questionnaires were used to assess
vitamin C intake from dietary and supplemental
sources
-
In 16 years of follow up, 1,356 cases of CHD were
identified
-
Results showed a modest preventive effect against
CHD among women who had the highest vitamin C intake
from all sources, compared to women with the lowest
intake
-
A "weak and not significant" protection against CHD
was observed in women who received most of their
vitamin C from diet alone
-
Use of vitamin C supplements, however, was linked to
a significantly lower risk of CHD
In the Journal of the American College of Cardiology,
the authors wrote: "Users of vitamin C supplements
appear to be at lower risk for CHD."

BOUND TO FORGIVE
Writer Norman Cousins said that life
is an adventure in forgiveness. I think Fr. Lawrence
Martin Jenco would agree.
In 1984, Fr. Jenco traveled to Beirut, dedicated to help
the poorest of the poor. On January 8, 1985, he was
kidnapped by Shiite Muslim extremists and held hostage
for 564 days. He endured imprisonment, beatings, illness
and heartbreaking periods of sorrow and loneliness.
Several years after his release, he wrote a book (BOUND
TO FORGIVE, Ave Maria Press, 1995) about his experiences
in captivity and, more importantly, about the power of
love and forgiveness.
Fr. Jenco tells about being taped like a mummy from his
ankles to the top of his head each time he was
transported from one place to another. He described
being forced to breathe only from his nose as his mouth
was stuffed with a cloth and taped shut.
He tells of times when his captors said they were going
to kill him and he waited for the bullet to go through
his head. Other times he was dressed up and told he was
going home, only to have his spirits dashed when he was
later informed they were teasing.
He remembers being chained hand and foot, donning a
plastic bag on his head, and left in a two-foot by
six-foot closet. And he remembers his stench when he was
denied washing for over four months.
He was later asked what lesson those of us who haven't
been in such a position can learn from his experience
and apply to our daily living. He said, "Just look at
the madness that goes on in the world today. We lug our
hates and our bigotry and prejudices from generation to
generation and we pass [them] on.... We [must] stop and
look at each other and say, 'I am so sorry for the hurt
I caused you. I ask your forgiveness.' And then [we
must] extend forgiveness and... receive forgiveness.
Somewhere along the line we are going to have to do
that. We're all bound to forgive."
Fr. Jenco has forgiven and can attest to the power of
forgiveness. And though our hurt may not be the same as
his, it is no less real. We, too, are "bound" to
forgive. For when we covenant with life to earnestly
forgive whatever hurts come our way, we see amazing
results. We find inner peace and, often, improved
physical health as well. As Dr. O. A. Battista says,
"One of the most lasting pleasures you can experience is
the feeling that comes over you when you genuinely
forgive an enemy -- whether he knows it or not."
I've come to realize that genuine forgiveness is crucial
if any of us will find peace. Whether or not it restores
a broken relationship, it sets our own hearts free.
Those who will be bound by the promise to sincerely
forgive, will be freed from the bonds of the past. Those
are Fr. Jenco's words: "We're all bound to forgive." And
those who are bound to forgive are bound to be happy.
