Today's question ".....Should
I change doctors or just ignore her prescription form of
treatment? How can I find a doctor that believes in
using natural remedies? Are there ways of knowing if a
doctor will help you with alternatives?"
I
strive to answer all questions using what I gleaned
from 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along with my ongoing and past education in
nutritional and alternative treatment modes and my
many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland, a very knowledgeable
naturopath and herbologist, who beat his cancer death
sentence given by the traditional medical world. I also
receive a lot of study reports and try to ascertain if
they are good or bad and report them to you...
I am not a doctor and
you should not think of me as one!!
My years observing life and
health of the many people/patients around me and the
contradictions of the traditional medical world's idea
of treating - prescription domino effect - while watching those same schooled methods
that aren't relieving illness but creating far more than
they help. Those same medical professionals aren't
telling people how to get
healthy or how to prevent illness led me to look for something to change that
premise for myself and those around me. In looking
outside the Westernized medical profession I found and continue to find alternatives that
really work to create health and longevity -when adhered
to - beyond anything the traditional medical world can
do...

Hello Lena, Thank you for being here for those of us
confused easily with no guts inability of standing up for
ourselves guide... I'm really upset with my family doctor
as she won't even discuss vitamins with me much less
herbs, etc. Should I change doctors or just ignore
her prescription form of treatment? How can I find a
doctor that believes in using natural remedies? Are
there ways of knowing if a doctor will help you with
alternatives?

ANSWER
Yes Joseph, a tough position and a very common one
in this poison/cut/burn Medical mentality of
Westernized Medicine. I think my answer will help to
answer your questions...
Her attitude really isn't your doctor's fault,
totally, they are taught, in medical school that
their education is the only health truth out there
and anything other than that is an old wives tales
and shouldn't be believed. Yes there are questions
to be asked that will help you quickly decide on
choosing the right doctor as a partner in your
health care.
First you need to understand that the pharmaceutical
industry educates our doctors in that
cut/burn/poison mentality by way of running the
medical schools that educate them and once a doctor
is out of Medical school and practicing medicine
they are required to get ongoing education in order
to keep their medical license. Guess who is in
charge of all CEU's (continuing education units)?
They are then spoon fed - to via those CEU's - what
the drug industry wants them to know. So do not
expect many of them to go outside the normal medical
education format to learn true healing!
We can still be in charge of our health choices and
who we see will help to do that so I say get rid of
your doctor, if she won't even consider listening to
your choices or agreeing with the possibility of
alternative health treatments. It's necessary to
find one who will work with you and be a partner in
your health care and not a dictator! Start by
calling around to the different medical offices and
ask the receptionist or the doctors? nurse how that
doctor feels about herbs and nutritional healing. A
D.O. (Osteopathic doctor) is more likely
capable of treating alternatively or at least will
chart your progress and help guide you with your
chosen form of alternatives.
When finding a new doctor I prefer to talk to
the doctor's nurse but some receptionists know the
doctor's procedures and attitude of treating
patients. Once you have them on the phone ask;
- Is your doctor for or
against treating patients with alternative
(be specific in
your question as to whether your idea is herbal,
nutritional, Chelation, chiropractic,
homeopathic or all of these.) medicine?
- What is the normal
procedure that your doctor follows for colds and
viruses? That answer will tell you a great
deal about him/her. If the word antibiotic or
names of an antibiotic or prescription comes out
of the mouth, hang up as colds and viruses are
only worsened with those modes of treating!
Those two questions should garner you enough
information to ascertain whether he/she is a
possible physician for you. Only after being
seen for a consultation can you know definitely
but it?s worth paying for that one visit to know
for sure!
- Never be afraid to switch
doctors. As many times
as necessary to assure competent health care.
- Remember one thing;
A good personality or good bedside manner does
not necessarily mean an effective doctor. A
large number of doctors have great personalities
but are terrible doctors? By the same token, a
person can have a bad personality but be a great
healer. This is going to sound strange, but in
the twenty years I worked with dozens of doctors
I found that the best doctors have horrible bed
side manners, they concentrate on being the best
doctor and are unable to convey that. So
never choose by a personality.
Ineffective incompetent doctors usually have
great personalities, just as pedophiles have
great rapport with children! There are
definitely exceptions to that statement but the
majority of the time will ring true.
Here in Arizona it is not at all unusual to find a
doctor who will allow you alternatives and an
occasional one who uses both in their practice,
which is my preference. There is a website that can
help you shorten your search so
Click here Choose the area of your choosing,
such as herbs, or whatever, click and it will take
you to a list to enter your city and/or state and
hopefully they will have someone listed in your
area? The questions I've listed won't even be
necessary with those listed there as they have
already been screened... You may also find that some
of them listed are no longer in practice in the area
listed as the AMA black balls them and some lose
their nerve and move on or stop alternative
practices...
I do not have sufficient room here, nor could I keep
your interest long enough, with an absolutely answer
to your question, but I dedicated a whole chapter to
talking to your doctor and how to approach him/her
in my book "Antibiotic
Alternatives To Preventing Mega Bacteria".
Hopefully this will give you a start to finding a
suitable doctor that will partner with your health
care!

ENCOURAGEMENT WORKS
At one point during a game, the coach said to one of
his young players, "Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team
is?" The little boy nodded yes.
"Do you understand that what matters is whether we win together as a
team?" The little boy nodded yes.
"So," the coach continued, "when a strike is called, or you are out at
first, you don't argue or curse or attack the umpire. Do you understand
all that?" Again, the boy nodded yes.
"Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and explain it to your
mother."
What the coach wanted the boy's mother to understand is that
encouragement is vital to success. Encouragement builds teams and also
builds esteem. Encouragement works. In fact, the right kind of
encouragement, at the right time, can change a life.
Author Ron Dunn tells the story of two altar boys. One was born in 1892
in Eastern Europe. The other was born just three years later in a small
town in Illinois (USA). Though their lives were quite different, these
two boys shared a similar experience.
Each altar boy assisted his parish priest in the celebration of Mass.
While handling the chalice during Holy Eucharist, they both accidentally
spilled some of the wine on the carpet.
But this is where their stories diverge. The priest in the Eastern
European church, seeing the purple stain, slapped the altar boy across
the face and shouted, "Clumsy oaf! Leave the altar." He did. The little
boy grew up to become the atheist and communist dictator of Yugoslavia,
Josip Broz Tito.
The priest in the church in Illinois, upon seeing the wine stain, knelt
down beside the boy and looked him tenderly in the eyes and said, "It's
all right, son. You'll do better next time. You'll be a fine priest for
God someday." That little boy grew up to become the much loved Bishop
Fulton J. Sheen.
We will never know how much a kind and encouraging word from the priest,
or the lack of one, influenced these boys' lives. But kindness and
instruction are far more valuable than anger and criticism.
