Michelle asks: "I have recently heard of a product called "Total Food" that is actually for diabetes.  The only thing I know about it is that it is sold from Walla Walla Washington.  My friend told me that her friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer more than 10 years ago and because he took one spoon of this "total food" three times a day, he is still alive today. I'm hoping desperately that you can help me..."

QUESTION:

Hi this is Cesar, congratulations, you are great...Do you have any information on treatment for a fish poisoning (called "ciguatera" in spanish). Aparently regular medicine does not have any cure or treatment. I enjoy very much your articles and have taken very dearly your advices. I pray for your continuing success and care.
Thank You...

ANSWER:

Hi Cesar,

Thanks for the vote of confidence and appreciation... Since this is something that most of my readers have never heard of I think a bit of history would help them to know what your question means.

Ciguatera (fish poisoning) is said to be the most reported marine toxin disease in the world, associated with consumption of contaminated reef fish such as barracuda, grouper, and snapper. Under-diagnosis and under-reported (especially in endemic areas such as the Caribbean.). Most likely is suffered by 50,000 plus people per year who live in or visit tropical and subtropical areas suffer from Ciguatera worldwide. For example, CDC and others estimate that only 2-10% of Ciguatera cases are actually reported in the United States. In the US Virgin Islands, there are an estimated 300 cases per 10,000 or 3% of the population per year; a similar rate is found in the French West Indies. In St. Thomas, a household survey estimated that 4.4% of all households suffered from Ciguatera annually (at least 2640 persons per year or an annual incidence of 600 cases per year); in Puerto Rico, 7% of the residents have experienced at least one episode of Ciguatera in their lifetime. The medical world has yet to figure out how to treat it... Sadly it is missed by most physicians...

Ciguatera patient, especially in the Caribbean, suffer for weeks to months with debilitating neurologic symptoms, including profound weakness, temperature sensation changes, pain, and numbness in the extremities.

Ciguatera presents primarily as an acute neurologic disease manifesting with gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, abdominal cramps and vomiting), neurologic (paresthesias, burning or prickling sensation that is usually felt in the hands, arms, legs, or feet, pain in the teeth, pain on urination, blurred vision, and temperature drops) also cardiovascular (arrhythmias, heart block, which may or may not cause death) signs and symptoms usually within about six hours of contaminated fish ingestion. The symptom of Ciguatera intoxication is hot/cold temperature temperatures, although not all patients report this. So ciguatera is toxin poisoning that that cannot be helped with charcoal as most poisoning can...

In severe cases the neurological symptoms are known to persist from weeks to months. In a few isolated cases neurological symptoms persist for several years, and in some cases recovered patients have experienced recurrence of neurological symptoms months to years after recovery. Such relapses are usually associated with changes in dietary habits or with consumption of alcohol.

As for alternative treatments. Sadly Ciguatera is not usually recognized fast enough to prevent latent affects... If the body's immune system is in top working shape it most likely will not be noticed as the symptoms will be so light that it will be thought of as a simple gastrointestinal upset. If you notice these symptoms are the same ones exhibited by environmental toxic poisoning and require much of the same type of treatments...

The first order should be thorough detoxing immediately to rid the body of the toxins that is creating the problems. This is something the traditional medical world doesn't understand or else ignores... There are numerous detoxing instructions available online for that purpose or you can contact me for my preferred choice... Of course that alone will probably not stop the symptoms as the body has already been accosted...

Next should come some or all of the minerals/herbs to combat any ongoing symptoms.
1. In all cases Balanced Minerals to help strengthen the whole body's immune system along with the body's filtration system that includes the liver, kidneys and thyroid, from becoming clogged and inefficient.
2. for neurological/mental symptoms Mind Power to nourish and strengthen the brain.
3. for nerves that have gone wild due to the toxins Tolerance herbal formula. These should give relief until the body is able to detox and repair...

There are other things that can help with severely debilitating affects, untreated or unsuccessfully treated, that have been long term and would require personal protocols set up for that person...

Hope this helps,
Lena

QUESTION #2:

Hi,

My name is Michelle and I live in Honolulu, Hawaii.  I have recently heard of a product called "Total Food" that is actually for diabetes.  The only thing I know about it is that it is sold from Walla Walla Washington.  My friend told me that her friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer more than 10 years ago and because he took one spoon of this "total food" three times a day, he is still alive today.  The only stipulation he was told was that he could not take chemotherapy and that he needed to stay away from green beans and red fish.

I'm hoping desperately that you can help me since I have just recently learned of a very dear friend who is seriously ill with pancreatic cancer.  Any help you can give me would be deeply appreciated.

aloha - michelle

ANSWER:

Thanks for the question Michelle,

I'm sorry but I know of no such product.

I do know that lots of people refer to "BarleyGreen" as a total food, but that will not cure an illness by itself... BarleyGreen, high in chlorella content that is known to be a very healthy nutrient and detoxifier, can be found at most highend health food stores under various names and is most definitely good for an ill person; just don't expect it to cure cancer or any other horrific illness by itself...

It sounds like your friend has some erroneous information or that person had no minerals or vitamin intake prior to the cancer and once the body began receiving a large portion of partial nutrients a turn around may have happened but I truly doubt it was with that alone... You can bet they changed their diet and habits drastically at the same time?

Personally I would agree to almost any natural treatment before chemotherapy or radiation treatment as they are most often a waste of time and money as well as risking life since the treatments are only effective to those who can survive the onslaught to the body. The chances of surviving are about 42% of those who undergo those traditional treatments. I would take my chances with almost natural treatments as they have a much higher success rate in the 80% range versus 40% range in traditional medicine...

I would like to add that every study that I have read over the last 15 years that has been done in regards to nutrition and cancer/diseases has come up with 1 to 4 minerals missing as a link to causation of each illness/disease. This tells me that nutrition is the key to prevention and repair yet cannot be the whole answer in repairing the body once it has been diseased... See Balance Your Way To Health in order to better understand that premise...

Be sure to read Sunday August 21st  A Natural Environmental Health Facts and some of the alternatives you have available in Hawaii...

I'm sorry I am unable to answer your question as to where to get that Super Food...
Lena

A CURE FOR LONELINESS

People do strange things! I heard of a man who occasionally swallowed coins -- enough to make him sick! Which, as it turns out, was the whole idea. When asked why he made himself sick swallowing coins, he replied that he enjoyed the affection and attention the staff showed him in the hospital!

He was lonely. Many of us are lonely. When asked, "What is life's heaviest burden?" one lonely old man answered, "To have nothing to carry."

A cure for loneliness is to carry the burden of another. Get involved with their problems. Visit others who are also lonely. Listen to someone else's troubles. Find people who need you and do something for them. Carrying another's burden will lighten the load of your loneliness.

I know a woman who gave each person in her family a golden angel lapel pin one Christmas. "Wear it on your collar or shoulder," she said, "to remind you that your guardian angel is always looking over your shoulder."

Her brother noticed his pin had a broken wing. He held up his damaged angel and quipped, "It figures. My guardian angel is missing a wing. She can't even take care of herself!"

Two years later he died of cancer. As I thought of the pain his family must be feeling, I was struck with how his broken angel is like each of us. We each hurt. We all experience loss. At times we are lonely. Like that angel, we are each broken in some way, even if our damage is interior and invisible to others.

But we're each like his broken angel in another way, too. As it has been so beautifully said, "We are all like angels with just one wing. We can only fly by embracing each other." You see, we will heal best by hanging on to one another. And we will overcome loneliness best by putting an arm around someone else and going it with them.

This family embraced each other. And as they carried one another's burdens, their own loads were lightened. It's a solution for loneliness -- and a formula for happiness.

FOOD OF THE WEEK
=================

Yellow, Red, White, Blue (Zea mays var. rugosa)

Today's vegetable come in an array of colors such as yellow, red, white and blue with variations in between all of those? And sadly I received some really bad information in my early adult years on this vegetable. A badly informed friend told me that this vegetable had no nutrients in it to help us and that it was a wasted food? How that rumor got started I will never know but it is absolutely false! I did not take the time to even look it up then but I have since found that is absolutely a far fetched fallacy!

Corn season is here in our area and the annual Community Corn Dinner will be held this coming weekend?

Our veggie this week, corn contains a multitude of nutrients? Fiber to keep our bowels regular and healthy, along with a multitude of Minerals such as; Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese and Selenium. And many Vitamins such as; Vitamins A, C, B-6, B-12, E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Folate and Folic acid.

History and Origin

In Native American usage, the word for corn means "our life," or "our mother," or "she who sustains us." It was the cultivation of corn that turned Native American tribes from nomadic to agrarian communities.

It was from the Native Americans that the first European settlers learned about corn. Native Americans had spent hundreds of years developing what we now know as corn from seed-bearing grass. Long before Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain in 1492, Native Americans were cultivating this grass in North, Central, and South America. Native American farmers in the Ohio River Valley had been growing corn for more than 1,700 years before the first white men crossed the Appalachian Mountains, and there is evidence that they used corn to brew beer before Europeans arrived in the Americas.

The Pawtuxet Indian tribe in Massachusetts was cultivating corn when the first settler arrived, and corn was on the first Thanksgiving table in 1621. If it had not been for corn, the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony might have starved to death during their first year in America. The Indians taught settlers how to grown corn, pound corn into meal, and how to cook with it. The words of Governor William Bradford, first governor of the Plymouth Colony, now inscribed on a brass plaque at Truto (Corn Hill) on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, reflect the settler's gratitude: "And sure it was God's good providence that we found this corn for we know not how else we should have done."

At first, when taken into Europe, corn was only a garden curiosity but it soon began to be recognized as a valuable food crop. Within a few years, it spread throughout France, Italy, and all of southeastern Europe and northern Africa. By 1575, it was making its way into western China, and had become important in the Philippines and the East Indies.

Although corn is indigenous to the western hemisphere, its exact birthplace is far less certain. Archeological evidence of corn's early presence in the western hemisphere was identified from corn pollen grain considered to be 80,000 years old obtained from drill cores 200 feet below Mexico City. Another archeological study of the bat caves in New Mexico revealed corncobs that were 5,600 years old by radiocarbon determination. Most historians believe corn was domesticated in the Tehuacan Valley of Mexico. The original wild form has long been extinct.

Cooking sweet corn, whether you cream it, steam it or keep it on the cob, unleashes beneficial nutrients that can substantially reduce the chance of heart disease and cancer, according to Cornell University food scientists. The study found that cooked sweet corn retains its antioxidant activity, despite the loss of some vitamin C.

The word "corn" has many different meanings depending on what country you are in. Corn in the United States is also called maize or Indian corn. In some countries, corn means the leading crop grown in a certain district. Corn in England means wheat; in Scotland and Ireland, it refers to oats. Corn mentioned in the Bible is said to probably refer to wheat or barley. Of course I didn't live then nor do I know anyone who did and cannot verify that?

Our favorite way of eating corn is grilled in its husk. I usually pull the husk back, remove as much of the silk as possible and make sure it's worm free, then pull the husk back over the cob and put on a BBQ grill, medium flame, and cook until husk is well burned? Turning frequently to cook evenly? Then butter and eat. We also like it raw on the cob, when it is fresh off the stalk? We also steam it and eat? I do not put a lot of seasoning on it as we like the flavor natural...But corn can be fixed many different ways. Corn can be found frozen through out the year so you can enjoy this nutritious food any time?

The grandchildren are quick to ask for and love our Summer Sabbath suppers of Popcorn and mixed fresh fruit salad, occasionally, when they are here?  Corn is great any way it's fixed to eat?

Enjoy this nutritious food,
Lena
