As you know and a rule
that I like to follow is I
don't like to do third or fourth party answers but since
this question seems to be a hugely misdiagnosed problem
these days and yet no real answers to help those
diagnosed I thought today's topic might be something a lot of
readers would like options that does exist for most of
those misdiagnosed!
Bruce writes;
"I
was just informed by a co-worker of mine that his
girlfriend has celiac disease. I didn't know what it is
and he gave me somewhat of a description of it. I
decided to do a search on some health boards. I still am
not sure what it is all about. Do you have any articles
or information about it? Is there a "cure" other than
the special diet he tells me she is on (no breads,
wheat, and even oats)? Please share any information
that you might have."
How
do I come by my answers to the questions posed to me? My 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along with my ongoing education in
nutritional and alternative treatment modes helps me to
answer health questions and hopefully to give hope to
those who need it... My
many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland, a very knowledgeable
naturopath and herbologist, who, many years ago, beat his cancer death
sentence given by the traditional medical world has
helped me along this path. I also
receive a lot of study reports and try to ascertain if
they are good or bad and report them to you has
increased my knowledge and agilities and I pass them on
to you to use or not...
I am not a doctor or dentist and
you should not think of me as one!!
My years observing life and
health of the many people/patients around me and the
contradictions of the traditional medical world's idea
of treating - prescription domino effect - while watching those same schooled methods
that aren't relieving illness but creating far more than
they help. Those same medical professionals aren't
telling people how to get
healthy or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for something to change that
premise for myself and those around me. In looking
outside the Westernized medical profession I found and continue to find alternatives that
really work to create health and longevity -when adhered
to - beyond anything the traditional medical world can
do...

QUESTION:
Hello Lena,
I was just informed by a co-worker of mine that his
girlfriend has celiac disease. I didn't know what it
is and he gave me somewhat of a description of it. I
decided to do a search on some health boards. I
still am not sure what it is all about. Do you have
any articles or information about it? Is there a
"cure" other than the special diet he tells me she
is on (no breads, wheat, and even oats)? Please
share any information that you might have. Thanks.
Very Respectfully,
Bruce
ANSWER:
As a rule I don't like to do third or
fourth party answers but since this seems to be such
a hugely diagnosed problem these days and yet no
real answers to help those diagnosed I thought this
might be something a lot of readers would like
options exist for most diagnosed!
My answer to Bruce:
Hi Bruce,
She must be miserable...True Celiac disease is an
allergy to gluten, which is found in grains. No, I
have not written about this disease, but probably
should.
First let's look at traditional medicines
definition of Celiac Disease:
Celiac disease, also referred to as celiac sprue,
is an inflammatory condition of the small intestine
precipitated by the ingestion of wheat in
individuals with certain genetic makeups. The onset
of illness most commonly occurs around age two,
after wheat has been introduced into the diet, and
in early adult life (third and fourth decades).
However celiac disease can begin anytime in life. In
susceptible individuals, the wheat protein gluten
triggers an inflammatory reaction in the small bowel
which results in a decrease in the amount of surface
area available for nutrient and fluid and
electrolyte absorption. The extent of loss of
intestinal absorptive surface area generally
dictates whether an individual with celiac disease
will develop symptoms. Individuals with celiac
disease may experience severe symptoms such as
diarrhea, weakness, and weight loss indicating a
marked decrease in intestinal absorptive surface
area involving much of the small intestine. On the
other hand, some individuals present with anemia
related fatigue and have no symptoms referable to
the gastrointestinal tract. Such individuals likely
have disease limited to the proximal small bowel
where iron is normally absorbed, with the remainder
of bowel adequate for nutrient and fluid absorption.
Other extraintestinal manifestations of celiac
disease include osteopenic bone disease, tetany and
rarely neurologic disorders. Gluten sensitivity can
also manifest itself as a blistering, burning, itchy
rash on the extensor surfaces of the body
(dermatitis herpetiformis). Most of these
individuals have intestinal biopsies characteristic
of celiac disease regardless of gastrointestinal
symptomatology. Recently, with the discovery of
antibodies which are specific for celiac disease,
screening of families of celiacs and select
populations have identified a growing number of
asymptomatic individuals who have circulating
antibodies and changes on intestinal biopsies
characteristic of celiac disease. These individuals
clearly have a gluten sensitivity but it is unclear
whether they will develop the clinical features of
celiac disease over time. Removal of wheat (gluten)
from the diet of individuals with celiac disease or
gluten sensitivity results in regeneration of the
intestinal mucosal absorptive surface area and
resolution of symptoms in most patients.
Sadly this is a misdiagnosis in a
large number of people diagnosed with Celiac's
- especially true in gals
as so many are taking birth control pills, pain meds
for those monthly cramps and ingesting antibiotics
from time to time and any one of those things sets
them up for this misdiagnosis - and is nothing more
than an
intestinal imbalance problem exacerbated by a
minerals imbalance. So if it were me I would try the
following steps first;
- Stop
all dairy products - as dairy exacerbates the
problem whether real Celiac or not - and balance
the
minerals (1 teaspoon twice a day in organic
beet/apple juice )
-
Probiotics daily (1 caplet between breakfast
and lunch/dinner, 1 caplet between lunch and
dinner/supper and 2 caplets at bedtime) produces
relief and symptom-free in a short time simply
because the natural flora will eat away any
inflammation existing and prevent it from happening
again with balance...
Can I
guarantee this will work for her? Not really - she
will simply have to try and see if she fits into
that misdiagnosed category... It will take at least
4 or 7 days to know for sure... If she wants to try
that she may have to start with half doses of
minerals and work up to the full dose over a few
days as the body's malnourished state due to lack of
minerals and then the reintroduction of them can
cause very loose stools within an hour of taking
them, but that will not last once the body adjusts
to the balanced state... Even in true Celiac's
disease these steps will relieve inflammation and
help with pain and discomfort.
For the beet/apple juice above: Juice 6 to 8
organic beets with 1 organic apple and add 1/2 to 1
teaspoon of minerals to a 6 ounce glass of the juice
and drink. Refrigerate the remainer and use it until
gone then make fresh again. After a couple of weeks
she can use other juices - lemonade, tomato, carrot
or V8 veggie works for most - if symptoms warrant...
The juice is a healing agent as well as the
supplements and will help sooth the intestines...
* That
genetic link spoken of in traditional medicine's
definition has not been established and has only
been alluded to by some researchers so, for the most
part, I'm discounting it until they present true
genetic tests proving it. How can I take that
stance? simply because family habits tend to be
looked on as genetic when it is nothing more than a
familial habit that sets the whole family up for the
same or similar problems!
In the instance its a true Celiac Disease, healing
will require rebuilding the immune system protocol,
which is very extensive but can be furnished on
request by
Emailing me .
Hope this answers your questions satisfactorily.
Lena
PS: Men are being misdiagnosed as
well as women, just not as often, so if your male
and reading this and have any of the symptoms or
have been diagnosed with Celica's disease you might
want to try the above to see if you are one of
those.

CELEBRATING YOU
An old story tells of an unhappy and discontented
stonecutter. One day he came upon a merchant and was awe-struck by all
of the marvelous goods the man had for sale. "I wish I were a
merchant," said the stonecutter and, quite amazingly, his wish was
granted.
Not long afterward he saw a parade pass his little shop. Spying a prince
dressed in splendor such as he had never before seen, he said, "I
wish I were a prince." And he became one.
But it wasn't too many days later that he stepped outside and felt the
discomfort of the hot summer sun beating down upon his head. "Even a
prince cannot stay cool in the sun," he said. "I wish I were the sun."
This wish, too, was granted.
He was happy being the sun until, one day, a cloud came between him and
the earth. "That cloud overshadows me," he said. "I wish I were a
cloud."
Again, his wish was granted and he was happy until he came to a mountain
that he could not rise above. "This mountain is greater than I,"
he said. "I wish I were a mountain."
As a tall and mighty mountain he looked down upon the affairs of humans
and felt that he was finally happy. But one day a stonecutter climbed up
his side and chipped away at rock and there was nothing he could do
about it. "That little man is more powerful than I," the mountain
said. "I wish I were a stonecutter."
So the circle was completed and now the stonecutter knew that he would
always be happy just being himself. He would never dress like a prince,
shine like the sun nor rise as tall as a mountain, but he was happy to
be who he was.
A sure way to unhappiness is to compare yourself to others. Like someone
aptly said, "The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence,
but it still has to be mowed." You are who you are and that is to be
celebrated.
