QUESTION:

I went to Dr. Garland for this answer and here it is:

Dear Jack,

So sorry for your diagnosis but at least it appears to be early therefore holds a lot of hope for reversal with natural medicine... Here is my suggestions along with a complete natural protocol to begin ASAP, that is helping many others with lung fibrosis and COPD problems... Unless you are a smoker or live in or around smokers, then the results will be far less effective...

This protocol can take up to a year and a few require ongoing compliance to keep lungs healthy. Your body will give us the answer as to the category you will fit into once you are three months into the program, should you decide to go with it...

PROTOCOL

*Stop all the nutritional formulas or medications you are currently taking. Do not stop prescriptions drugs without daily monitoring by Lena or myself (this will be done by phone or email).
 
*Go on the following special 7-DAY LUNG CLEANSING DIET immediately to detox and clear the lungs:
 
7-day cleansing diet:

--juice of one Lemon or grapefruit in pure (purified/filtered not tap) water each morning with 1 teaspoon of honey as a natural expectorant.
 
--Fresh carrot juice with the Life Transfusion liquid minerals (one-half teaspoon) fifteen minutes afterward taking the above.
 
--Big bowl of the Miracle Potassium Broth for breakfast. (below)
 
--Have a fresh, green salad with Barlean's Flax Seed Oil and lemon juice dressing midmorning.
 
-Have the Non Dairy Protein Smoothie with the midmorning salad. (Below)
 
--Steamed vegetables with brown rice and tofu for lunch.
 
--Another fresh, green salad (with the barleans and lemon dressing) midafternoon.
 
--Another steamed veggies with brown rice and tofu for dinner.
 
--6 to 8 ounce glass of Cranberry or celery juice before bed.
 
At the end of the 7-days:

*Ongoing diet should be high in vegetable proteins and whole grains, low in sugar and starches. Include cultured foods such as yogurt and kefir. Include pitted fruits like apricots, peaches, plums which are lung specific foods.
Include brewer's yeast, add two teaspoons to the carrot juice and teaspoon liquid minerals each time.
 
*Sip Aloe Vera juice throughout the day, get this from a health food store.
 
Lung Health Supplement Protocol!
 
*EVENING PRIMROSE OIL caps, 6 caps daily to ease lung pain. Get this from a health food store.
 
*ECHINACEA & GOLDENSEAL caps, 6 caps a day for lung strength. Get this from a health food store.

Cover in a large soup pot:
*4 carrots.
*2 red potatoes with skin.
*1 onion, quartered.
*2 stalks celery.
*1/2 bunch parsley.
*1/2 head red cabbage.
*1/2 bunch broccoli.
*Clove garlic, crushed.
Add Filtered/purified water to about an inch above veggies.
Simmer on low heat, do not boil, for 30 minutes.
Add two teaspoons Bragg's Liquid Aminos from the health food store or Sea Salt for seasoning.
 
Add to blender and puree.
 
Have 8 ounce cup of this once a day.

A man who fell off a skyscraper was heard to say as he passed the 12th floor, "So far, so good!" One might say he was an optimist.

Is he simply playing silly mind games? I don't think so. Imagine how much more we might enjoy a meal, a book, an outing, a concert, a holiday -- if we think these just may be the best we have ever experienced! A strong, positive outlook can make all the difference.

The poet writes:

    "One ship sails east, the other west
    On the self-same winds that blow.
    'Tis the set of the sails and not the gales
    That determines the way she goes."

Set your mental outlook to always expect the best. You will often get exactly what you expect! And even if you don't, you will still get to enjoy the pleasure of anticipation.

The Unlikely Healthy Food!

You probably thought this week's food was just a flower but it has a health allure from the past!

I thought it would be unique to present you with a food you've most likely never eaten or even referred to as food. There are a minute number of people who even recognize this as a food! "A rose by any other name is a rose." That is precisely what this food is, a Rose!

Roses are members of the apple family, and like their relative, they produce a fruit. The fruit portion of the rose is called the rose hip, a big seed pod that form on rose canes after it blossoms. Some roses, especially Rugosa roses, form rose hips that are the size of a quarter! Wild Roses are found in various places from forests to canyons, logged wastelands and thickets. There are nine species of Roses, which have edible fruits and flowers, though they are not necessarily tasty. Then there are a multitude of roses found at your local neighborhood nursery. There isn't a lacking of roses as it is a most popular flower! But what about eating it?

Rose hips the apple of the rose and also a great food! Of course rose petals make a great looking healthy addition to salads!

Rose Hips, The Healer

Rosehips were found within a body of an English woman buried almost 2000 years ago. Seems the English have enjoyed roses and rosehips since the beginning of recorded history.

Rosehips have saved many generations from scurvy due to its high Vitamin C content. Many fine foods have been created using these rose hips. Probably the most popular being rose hip vinegar but jelly and syrups are healthy, unique and found in unique stores and homes.

Rose Hips contain more vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus, and iron than oranges, and sixty times more vitamin C than lemons. Rosehips also contain a high amount of carotenoids and catchins, isoquercitrin all from the polyphenol family. These natural occurring chemicals have great antioxidant activities. Polyphenols also enhance the immune system, assists in weight loss, lowers cholesterol, and beats up cancer cells and free radicals that disease the body. Rosehips also contain maltic acid. Women suffering from Fibromyalgia are almost always found to be deficient in maltic acid. Herbalist at the turn of century suggested we all drink a cup of rosehip tea daily. There seems to be something to that rosy advice.

Rose Hips is used by many to treat infections of the bladder and kidney, diarrhea, skin problems, colds and flu, sore throat, fatigue, inflammation, stress, and nervousness. It has also been used to treat arteriosclerosis, circulatory insufficiencies, contagious disease, and PMS.

More cosmetic companies are adding rosehip seed oil to their lotions and facial products. Rose hip seed oil helps to regenerate the skin cells due to its high content of essential unsaturated fatty acids, oleic (15-20%), linoleic (44-50%) and linolenic (30-35%). Our body cannot reproduce these fatty acids, so it has to come from an outside source and very few foods contain sufficient quantities to help us. Rosehip oil helps to fade age spots and reduce the signs of aging. It also helps to reduce scars as well as scars caused by acne.

Here is a really neat tasty and unusually healthy Rose Hips!

Peachy Rosehips Muffins

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup pecans or walnuts
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup fresh or frozen peaches (or canned)
2 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup dried seedless rosehips
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease twelve 2 3/4" muffin pan cups, or line them with paper baking cups. In large mixing bowl, combine first six ingredients. In another bowl, mash peaches with fork, add rosehips to the mashed peaches, let sit about 10 minutes, then stir in remaining ingredients. Add peach mixture to flour mixture and stir just until ingredients are moistened. Spoon the batter into muffin cups. Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until tops are golden.

Taken in the recommended doses, Rose Hips is generally safe; however, taking along with vitamin C in high doses can cause stomach upset and diarrhea. If you have kidney stones, consult your physician before using Rose Hips. Safety in young children, pregnant or nursing women, or those with severe liver or kidney disease is not known.
