ANSWER:

This is a question that I receive frequently but usually from the younger set...

Looking at your answers to my questions I see that there are a host of problems that could cause the odorous scalp and when you put them all together not easy to change or even find an absolute answer to... The largest one I see is that almost every chemical (prescription and over-the-counter) medication depletes the body of nutrients necessary for health as well as created to cause different organs to improperly function... Since you are on medications and supplements I would say that is most likely a large portion of your problem but other things also can enter into the picture! Medications set up the body for odors that come out on different parts of the body with the head being one of those areas...

You should check your food intake to see if you are eating too many foods high in fats and not enough fresh fruits and vegetables as well as getting balance of minerals... That is important...  If you regularly drink milk, eat cheese or meats with their chemicals and hormones this not only can cause that type of problem but when consumed in conjunction with medications and supplements will cause them to work differently that not only affects your body odors but your health... Also make sure you are drinking lots of purified/filtered water every day!!! Your body requires the water to help your liver and kidneys filter the toxins contained in your foods and medications as well as your skin... Do you walk and/or exercise in other ways. Exercise is very important to the body's filtering system...

One of the first things is to help counteract the medication's depleting effects, as they remove so many nutrients from your body, by taking  balance liquid minerals. And to help with the hormone imbalance created by the body's reaction to the medications I would suggest taking Balanced Woman, which is an herbal formula to balance your hormones... And stay away from those offending foods as much as possible, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables along with legumes and whole grains and nuts... You are taking a lot of nutrient supplements, which is usually good but how do you know if you are taking the right amounts to offset your medications depletions? Balance is a very important part of being healthy and one that needs overseeing by someone knowledgeable in that area of health... labeled directions on supplement bottles are usually low for what you will actually need to offset the depleting going on in your body.

If these recommendations don't work you may have to settle for shampooing your hair everyday and not with dandruff shampoos as they can irritate the scalp and make it worse over the long haul while using a few drops liquid minerals on the scalp after shampooing and rinse with green tea (1 tea bag to 1 cup boiling water and seep for 10 minutes rinse hair when cooled) or lemon rinse (1 Tablespoon lemon juice to 1 cup warm water)...

If at some point in time you would like for Dr. Garland and I to help you kick the medications habit and replace them with something your body will utilize and help you live a longer healthier life simple ask...  That will require monitoring while you stop them and we provide that service free... He is excellent at getting you into a whole program of nutrients and herbal/mineral protocol that is keeping us older gals young and feeling healthy and happy... I am one of his successes so I know what he can do... I kicked all medications at 56 years of age and have taken none since then and have been much healthier because of it... My BP, cholesterol, insomnia, mood swings and fibromyalgia pain has been in check and doing well with just herbs, minerals and healthy foods... I am now 69 years old and told by everyone I don't look a day over 45, of course I think they are being nice but my skin is great as is my attitude and health and I give Wayne Garland the praise for showing me the way...

As for success stories on clearing smelly scalp? My daughter and I qualify in that category but others as well have written and said the above worked for them... I am not at liberty to give their names for confidentiality purposes... Remember, not the same process works for everyone so you will need to try them out and see what works for you... That takes time and effort... Diet does seem to be the number one culprit with younger people...

Regards,
Lena

QUESTION
: #2

Hi Lena, my name is Sarah, I appreciate your health advice web page very much. I had a question for you. I am 25 and have had a smelly scalp condition for over a year now (maybe two). I have been using the sulfur soap Sal3 bar ( http://www.sulfursoap.com/ ) for about 7 months now along with Head and shoulders Silky n Smooth shampoo and or Tea Tree oil. Each time I shower, I make sure to wash my hair several times really well. I normally don't wash my hair every day, just every other day or every two days. The bar and shampoo made my scalp less smelly but the problem is this condition is not going away. I just recently tried washing my hair every day (twice with the Sul3 bar followed with putting 100% Tea Tree oil on my scalp). I've done that for 2 1/2  weeks and I stopped doing 7 days ago because I thought it was gone. I've started using just Nizoral dandruff shampoo when I wash my hair and the bad smell just started coming back! I want so much to find the cure for my scalp condition. I noticed that you posted a question from a lady with a similar problem and you concluded that it was a hormonal problem. I on the other hand am not going through anything like menopause so I don't know if it would still be considered a hormonal problem.

Along with sulfur shampoos and soaps, you mentioned rubbing several drops of Life Transfusion Ionic Liquid minerals into the scalp at night and also rinsing with green tea after shampooing. Would you recommend the same for me even though I have long red hair? My biggest and most important question for you is this: Will this cure the problem? Have people had success stories with this method? How long does it generally take for the problem to go away?

Thank you for your time and help Lena
Sarah

ANSWER:

Hi Sarah several things could be happening to create the problem...

You don't mention taking medications or having a health problem requiring them so that can most likely be ruled out... BUT FYI, Medications can set up the body for odors that come out on different parts of the body with the head being one of those areas... Chemical medications causes the body's organs to function differently and react different than they should... At your age it may be birth control pills that is affecting your situation?

Yes, you can then do the liquid mineral drops on your head and massage it in... The red hair may not be ideal for the green tea rinse as it may give you a greenish tinge to your hair and most gals aren't too happy with that but you can try it as it will wash out and if that happens then try a Tablespoon of fresh lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of water in place of the green tea... I would suggest the following things simply because sooner or later they can affect your life and body other than head odor...

Check and see if you are eating too many foods high in fats and not enough fresh fruits and vegetables as well as getting balance of minerals... That is important... Another possibility that can affect you later on is that you are going into what is called "perimenopause" (fluctuation of hormones) early... This condition only came to be in the last fifty years with the altered farming and change to animal controls... Perimenopause sometimes happens 8 - 10 years in advance of actual menopause and usually begins in the late 30's or early 40's but due to our foods, especially dairy and meat, having so many hormones and chemicals it is putting even young girls (20-30) into perimenopause... You do not want that to happen as it will affect your health in lots of ways that are not good... I've seen 7 and 8 year olds go into puberty early from eating meats and dairy foods, which means they will be into perimenopause in their 20's... If you drink a lot of milk, eat a lot of cheese or meats or went into puberty early or have ever had irregular periods or suffer from cramps not caused by endometriosis you are a good candidate for early perimenopause... Something you need to change... In that instance you should not only be on balance liquid minerals but Balanced Woman, which is an herbal formula to balance your hormones... And stay away from those offending foods as much as possible...

If those things don't work you may have to settle for shampooing your hair everyday and not with dandruff shampoos as they can irritate the scalp and make it worse over the long haul and using the liquid minerals on the scalp with lemon rinses...

As for successes? Yes, gals have write me and say they were successful with each of the above... It will take experimenting and time to see which works for you! Experience and answers have taught me that with the younger set diet combined with hormone imbalance to be the number one culprit, with drugs being second...

I hope this helps,
Lena

ARE YOU RENEWING YOUR DREAMS?

"Grandpa," a young girl asked, "were you in the ark with Noah?"

"Certainly not, my dear," Grandpa replied in astonishment.

"Then," the puzzled child continued, "why weren't you drowned?"

Maybe he seemed older than Noah to her, but seniors may be finally getting respect they rightfully deserve. Hugh Downs reported that when senior adults are properly motivated, their intelligence does not wane. In fact, the ability to organize thinking may increase as folks age. Many people in their 50's, 60's and even 70's can go through college with greater efficiency than at 18.

Adults over 70 years of age have contributed richly and in varied ways.

- Emmanuel Kant wrote his finest philosophical works at age 74.
- Verdi at 80 produced "Falstaff" and at 85, "Ave Maria."
- Goethe was 80 when he completed "Faust."
- Tennyson was 80 when he wrote "Crossing the Bar."
- Michelangelo completed his greatest work at 87.
- At 90, Justice Holmes was still writing brilliant American Supreme Court opinions.

And then there's George Dawson. George learned to read at age 98. (He was forced to quit school when he was a small child in order to help support his family.) "I got tired of writing my name with an 'X,'" he said. Four years later, at age 102, he wrote his autobiography, LIFE IS SO GOOD (2001, Penguin Group).

Dreams are renewable. They need not expire like an over-due library book. No matter our age, we can breathe new life into old dreams. I believe that the best age is the age you are, but something even better awaits just ahead for those with the courage to dream and to act.

Are you renewing your dreams?
