Coffee enemas should be used with caution and only when instructed. Coffee enemas are stressful to the liver in a healthy body and too many of them can cause liver stress in the ill. After cleansing, coffee enemas should only be used as an emergency, not just to perk oneself up! Cancer patients must do enema's whether you feel good or not as the liver and kidneys must be in a continuous detoxing.

  1. Add 3 heaping tablespoons of ground coffee (organically grown coffee is absolutely essential*) to 1 quart of distilled water in a stainless steel sauce pan with lid. Let it boil lightly for 3 minutes, then simmer on low heat for a total of 20 minutes. Keep lid on. Let it cool to body temperature (until it feels lukewarm to touch). Strain and use at body temperature.
  2. Do a cleansing enema, which is 2-3 bags of distilled water used consecutively.
  3. Then place the coffee solution in the enema bag, instill the solution while lying on your right side, with both legs drawn in close to the abdomen. Breathe deeply in order to suck in the greatest amount of fluid into the necessary parts of the colon. It also helps to let all of the air out of the lungs and suck the gut in and out while in this position.
  4. The fluid should be retained for 12 to 15 minutes. It helps to have a clock or watch in view. Dr. Gerson found that all the caffeine is absorbed from the fluid within 12 minutes. The caffeine goes through the hemorrhoidal veins directly into the portal veins and into the liver.
  5. After 12-15 minutes, evacuate the enema into the toilet.

*The Chemicals found in commercially grown coffee could damage the liver when used as a coffee enema. Use ONLY organically grown coffee!

NOTE: Two coffee enemas in a week during a cleansing period are good for most people - but not everyone. If coffee enemas make a person feel worse, even when using organic coffee, they should discontinue using them. Coffee enemas should be used with caution. Coffee enemas are stressful to the liver and too many of them can cause liver stress. After cleansing, coffee enemas should only be used as an emergency, not just to perk oneself up!

I learned of this peculiar treatment from the work of Dr. Max Gerson and his famous Gerson Therapy for cancer and other chronic diseases, and from his daughter Charlotte who has spoken at Health and Healing Seminars.

The coffee enema has a specific purpose: to lower serum toxins.

Repeatedly, I have seen the therapy stop headaches, migraines, and crisis in their tracks! It is the best treatment for pain as well as detoxing the liver.

Many cancer patients, who have been on morphine, have discontinued its use once starting the coffee enemas. "The caffeine dilates the hemorrhoidal blood vessels, which in turn, dilate the portal veins of the liver. Simultaneously, the bile ducts expand with blood, the bile flow increases, and the smooth muscles of these internal organs relax. The blood serum and its many components are detoxified as this vital fluid passes through the caffeinated liver. The quart of water being retained in the bowel stimulates the visceral nervous system, promoting peristalsis. The water delivered through the bowel dilutes the bile and causes an even greater increase in bile flow. There is a flushing of toxic bile which is further affected by the body's enzymactic catalyst known to physiologists as glutathione S-transferase. The GST is increased in quantity in the small bowel by 700%, which is an excellent physiological effect, because this enzyme quenches free radicals." The Gerson Therapy, p. 159.
