 ASK LENA HEALTH Q & A EDITION!

===========================
=========

I am not making a decision on discontinuing later publications at this time as I have been under emotional stress with my father's death and want my mind free of emotions when I make a decision.

 I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of me as one!! My years observing life and health of the many people/patients around me and the contradictions of the traditional medical world's idea of treating - prescription domino effect - while watching and also was taught those same schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but creating far more health problems than they help is where my answers are based. Those same medical professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for something to change that premise for myself and those around me who ask. In looking outside the Westernized medical profession I found and continue to find alternatives that really work to create health and longevity - when adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical world can do...

Ask Lena Health Questions and Answers is for your information and education only and in some instances to give you a different perspective on a particular problem! My wish for you, in the use of the information gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in  addition to... Even though I daily watch people become healthy with the information imparted here nothing works 100% of the time for 100% of people...

I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope that will be your attitude as well!

 QUESTION:

Hi Lena,
 I read in your archived newsletters about people "buying in" to the Statin drugs. My doctor swears by them, and I have been taking Lipitor for about a year and my elderly mother and father take a generic version of Zocor.

Your article seems to imply that there is a problem with these drugs. Is that your opinion, or do you know something that no one else? Will these become the next Vioxx, or Celebrex scandal?

Thank you.
James

ANSWER:

Thanks for your question James. I am not the only one who knows the dangers.

It would appear you are not a regular reader of "Ask Lena Health Q & A" or you would know the answers to your questions but since I have not touched on this question since 2007 I feel that others may not have gotten the straight of Statin Drugs either.

Just know that as long as you are searching for truths you stand a chance of surviving to a ripe old age without continuing chemical medications... That is not only my research findings but a few former pharmaceutical scientists are speaking up about them. If you see the ads on TV they even list the side effects, just tell you that they are rare. Rare my foot, not true! You do not say that any of you are on blood pressure medications but I can bet you are. 95% or those on blood pressure medication will have elevated cholesterol within a year of beginning blood pressure meds. The other 5% will make it a few years longer but most will be on both meds very soon after. When the blood pressure normals were lowered - by the drug companies allowing them to make billions of dollars more - cholesterol then became their focus making them even more billions.

Yes, your doctor will swear by those medications as the drug industry educated him/her in medical school and continues to provide any ongoing education that he/she receives... I know I scheduled those appointments for doctor's to attend as well as attended the CEU classes for nurses; all are the Drug industry's babies... Your doctor is unaware that there are natural alternatives to the chemical poison medications and therefore cannot tell you about them. They do not get nutrition training and cannot tell you about that either... I was not taught those things in nursing school as well and had to go outside the medical industry and to the countries who have healthier people and practice natural health treatments and preventions to learn them on my own... You will have to be the detective and search those out for yourself as well...

I'm afraid you and your mother's meds will not be exposed as the next Cox-2 medication scandal - at least not in the near future - since the pharmaceutical industry is working very hard to squelch any such publicity. That possibility is very remote at this time... So it's going to depend on their scientist's blowing the whistle, which a few are doing and being blackballed from working in the industry making it more dangerous to the patients consuming those drugs thinking they are safe...

FYI, my 45 year-old sister-in-law almost died because of both Lipitor and Zocor until I saw her and worked at finding out what was happening to her... When she started exhibiting symptoms her doctor simply switched her from Lipitor to Zocor thinking something would change and that didn't help and then he tried to tell her it wasn't the medications causing the problems and said it was psychological... She was totally depleted of minerals and her muscles, tendons and arteries were in severe spasm with mental confusion making it hard for her to even think on the simplest things. You know the heart is the biggest muscle in the body and would have eventually shut down completely... Her doctor, like so many, does not believe in recommending minerals or vitamins if you eat well, which is a real fallacy read what was known back in 1936. She was fast exiting this world but thank God was reversed, up to a degree when she stopped taking them.

You and your mother are fortunate that severe side effects haven't shown up yet... Sadly the majority of side effects are not detected as side effects to the medication...

You need to know that the cholesterol scare that the drug industry has perpetrated is not legitimate for heart disease precursor's... Especially the way they are now working to get it down below 100. That number is going to kill gross numbers of people as well as I believe has created the epidemic of Alzheimer's and senile dementia that now exists. The body needs cholesterol to function and, as with everything in life, each person is different and some will require huge amounts while others not so large. Under 250 is life threatening to the majority, but will probably never be attributed to that cause by the medical profession. If you will read your insert that should come with your medication, if in fact your druggist even puts it in, it will tell you that no evidence exists that cholesterol lowering medications will reduce heart attack or stroke risks, which is the very reason the drug companies and your doctor say you should take them? Does that make sense? Not to me  My dh started out with cholesterol readings over 800 in his early forties (32 years ago), just at the beginning phase of testing in order to prescribe their NEW medication. He took their new medications until I started seeing what was happening with our patients in the office I then convinced him to stop them. Thank God it was only for less than a year and he had no long term side effects that has ever come to light... and since then his cholesterol readings are in the 280 to 400 range, with his doctor pushing to try and force him to take the medications, which my dh refuses... In 2005 his MD was so sure he had blocked carotid arteries due to the long term cholesterol readings that he was ready to clean out his carotid arteries with surgical intervention, but we went for a second opinion to a specialist and demanded tests and when they did carotid and arterial ultrasound and MRI testing his veins and arteries have almost no plaque - less than 3% - which is lower than most people's the average is 25%.

Now if cholesterol was a factor he would have blocked arteries everywhere but he does not. Just more proof that their medications are not necessary... Does that mean he will not develop a heart problem? Who knows as that is so not totally understood at this time and I doubt that it ever will be but he refuses to see a dentist for his teeth and I suspect that the inflammation in his gums may very well cause a heart problem for him... It is now slowly coming out that inflammation may be the culprit creating blocked arteries and not cholesterol plaque... It may or may not be the cause but that's much easier to treat, if you know how  MAYBE 20 years from now, if enough of us demand accountability from the drug companies, enough scientists will become honest enough to release the true story behind this drug motivating farce. There are a few who have left the pharma payroll that have released information on that very subject.

Of course the drug companies have to make their billions of dollars first... Paying attention to inflammation and preventing it from occurring should be the goal, with the information now surfacing, but drug companies can't make money with that premise because their chemical antibiotics are not effective for that purpose. I do expect that doctors will soon start to prescribe antibiotics trying to prevent it, which their antibiotics cannot do as the body doesn't recognize chemicals as legitimate treatment Pay close attention to gum inflammation and ongoing viral infections and work to clear and prevent them

It's not just my opinion regarding those medications either. Being a triage nurse in medical offices/clinics, before and after cholesterol medications came on the market and the bogus scare by the drug companies, I watched and handled the calls to the doctor's from patients who had horrific side effects and realized it, but the doctors pay no attention to the. I paid attention to the complaints and I watched many become more ill as the months and years rolled by, after starting the medications, but they nor their doctor had a clue their illnesses were actually being created by their medications and sending them to their death so the dr. simply prescribed a new name but same problems... Only the drug maker knows those toxic facts but are not telling us or doctors.

I know that most all Alzheimer's and senile dementia patients are on cholesterol drugs as I watched it unfold during my 20+ years in doctor's offices.

 A former pharma chemist turned health advocate writes about his experiences while on parma’s payroll; "Cholesterol-lowering drugs decrease CoQ10 levels within the heart. This essential nutrient serves as an energy producing molecule and is crucial to proper cardiovascular function. Without it, the heart fails. Congestive heart failure is the outcome. This was highlighted when Merck, makers of the first cholesterol-lowering drug, filed for a patent for its profit-pulling Mevacor. Cholesterol-lowering drugs can also destroy memory. Cholesterol works to ensure the integrity of the myelin sheath. This coating within the brain is responsible for encouraging the passage of electrical messages. It is needed for memory and focus. As the cholesterol-lowering drugs deplete cholesterol the myelin sheath breaks down. Memory deteriorates."

Medicine is not an exact science and the majority of doctor's do not have the true medical story for treating so why should we expect them to know it all... They get what the pharmaceutical industry gives them, unless they are smart and start to look at things outside those teachings. Thankfully a few are changing their way of practicing medicine and looking at herbs and natural treating and preventative medicine as the true answer, but so very few at this point... Doctors are human, and like most, will choose to take the easy way through life as they will be castigated by their colleagues when going outside traditional medical teachings!

We have numerous people who are managing blood pressure and cholesterol that truly is too high with natural herbal and nutritional protocols. Cholesterol over 300 should be managed, but most bodies need cholesterol of those numbers. Conventional medicine is telling you that is too high and causes strokes or heart disease yet they have no proof of that and as I said it is stated in small print on the package inserts of their Statin Drugs.

I hope I have answered your questions without creating more!

Lena

Physical Activity Sciences Laboratory of Laval University in Quebec, Canada, researchers found that eating a teaspoonful of hot pepper before meals reduced the amount people ate. And the hot pepper seemed to have an effect on the nervous system so that the people not only ate less, but also used more energy.
As for the green tea, the department of physiology at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, reported that if you drink three cups of green tea a day, you'll burn more fat.

WHEN SOMEONE GRIEVES

What do you say to someone who is grieving? ("Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?" probably tops the list of the kinds of conversation starters that should be avoided.) And actually, there are a lot of ways we can go wrong here -- saying something that isn't appreciated by one who hurts. Even when we are trying to comfort.

But chances are, we have been, or will be, put in the position of trying to comfort someone who is experiencing a painful loss. That is an important role we all play from time to time. So, what do you say to someone who is grieving?

I often remember a story told by Joseph Bayly when I struggle to say the "right thing" to someone who is hurting. Mr. Bayly lost three children to death over the course of several years. He wrote a book called VIEW FROM A HEARSE, in which he talks about his grief. He says this about comforting those who grieve:

"I was sitting, torn by grief. Someone came and talked to me of God's dealings, of why it happened, of hope beyond the grave. He said things I knew were true. I was unmoved, except to wish he would go away. He finally did. Someone else came and sat beside me. He didn't talk. He didn't ask leading questions. He just sat with me for an hour or more, listened when I said something, answered briefly, prayed simply, left. I was moved. I was comforted. I hated to see him go."

I have found Joseph Bayly's experience to be excruciatingly typical. Both men wanted to help. Both men cared. But only one truly comforted. The difference was that one tried to make him feel better, while the other just let him feel. One tried to say the right things. The other listened. One told him it would be all right. The other shared his pain.

When put in the difficult position of comforting someone in emotional pain, sometimes what needs to be said can be said best with a soft touch or a listening ear. No words. And though at times the quieter approach has felt inadequate to me, I have come to realize that it can make a bigger difference than I may ever know.
