Today's answer  contains  information people will need to know should they choose  natural healing modalities over conventional medicine, which is happening more and more! Enjoy and learn!

I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of me as one!! My years observing life and health of the many people/patients around me and the contradictions of the traditional medical world's idea of treating - prescription domino effect - while watching and also was taught those same schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but creating far more health problems than they help is where my answers are based. Those same medical professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for something to change that premise for myself and those around me who ask. In looking outside the Westernized medical profession I found and continue to find alternatives that really work to create health and longevity - when adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical world can do...

Ask Lena Health Questions and Answers is for your information and education only and in some instances to give you a different perspective on a particular problem! My wish for you, in the use of the information gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in  addition to... Even though I daily watch people become healthy with the information imparted here nothing works 100% of the time for 100% of people...

I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope that will be your attitude as well!

Thank you for your confidence and inquisitiveness!

 QUESTION:

I would like to know if I should take vytorin while using Mind Power herbal formula, that I just ordered?
I was started on vytorin a couple of weeks ago because my cholesterol is 301 and HDL 50. I'm a 45 year old male 5' 6" tall and weight is 175lbs. My triglycerides were very high and they couldn't do a full cholesterol testing. I'm a jogger and do weight lifting a few times a week and eat very little red meat so I was shocked to hear these numbers. My doctor simply wrote a prescription for vytorin but didn't explain much to me. If you can offer any information on vitorin and cholesterol problem I would really appreciate it.

Chas

ANSWER:

Hi Chas,

Chas, 301 is a bit high but a 50 HDL is just above borderline - 40 and below is considered not good - and I've never heard of being unable to determine an LDL? I am assuming that only one cholesterol testing was done? Did your blood have a whitish look rather than bright red as blood should? High triglycerides usually means you are getting too much fat or sugars in your diet or not utilizing the foods you put into your system? I suspect you have a very weak digestive system and need to boost it to try and eliminate the elevated triglyceride problem as it may very well not be handling your food intake properly.

FYI; It has been proven that a cholesterol reading can vary many different numbers throughout a day or on different days anywhere from low to high so, in my opinion, just one testing is not sufficient to warrant taking drugs...

Also high cholesterol could be a family trait that doesn't present a problem for you as with my husband's family... His family ALL run 300 - 400 regularly and still live very long and healthy lives - 80's to 90's with no history of stroke or heart disease... So check out your family's history first to see if it's a familial thing. Your doctor will not tell you that your cholesterol reading is okay as he/she was taught, by the drug industry, that it is bad for everyone, but my history of watching patients for 30+ years as well as my husband's family tells me that it can be okay.  Too low, below 200 really is too low for your body to work as it should. Sometimes taking cholesterol lowering drugs will trigger your body to make more ? because it needs it - therefore putting you on a merry-go-round of drugs and serious illness caused by them.

Just so you don't panic at your numbers!

A study report came out in 2008 that reported study regarding Vytorin, where they followed a group of 750 patients and then to verify their findings of that study
, which they were not agreeing with, then looked at thousands of other reports and their conclusion is; Vytorin -  on the market since 2004 - had little effect on the buildup of plaque in the arteries, a harbinger (sign of things to come) regarding heart attack and stroke. "The fact that the trial showed a huge LDL reduction, and that things were still going the wrong way [in terms of plaque buildup] is stunning," says Dr. Steven Nissen, chairman of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and an outspoken critic of the delay in the release of the study results. He stated; "This study shows that it matters how you lower cholesterol, not just how much you lower cholesterol."

Chas if you read the insert flier that came with your prescription for Vytorin, - in all statin drugs - you will find somewhere in small print a disclaimer that tells you that "this medication has not been proven to prevent heart disease or stroke." Backing up those test results... That really galls me as the doctor's tell you that's the reason you need to lower your cholesterol and they write you a prescription that says it won't...  99% of doctors take the drug company's rhetoric as truth and never check out those things for themselves. The drug companies know that it doesn't make you healthy but it does make them billions of dollars every month...

Without knowing if the time of the day was factor in your cholesterol reading high, and it were me I would not take that drug until I know that my cholesterol ran high (300 or above) on a consistent basis. I will tell you that 301 reading a few years ago in the medical world was considered borderline high and no medication would have been given.  That changed a few years ago when the pharmaceutical companies, with the help of their paid scientists, lowered the normal numbers by 150 points. That reflects the need for hundreds of thousands of people will need cholesterol lowering drugs. In my opinion that was not done because they need the medication either. Their very own tests prove them not to work to prevent heart disease of strokes as found in the studies in 2008!

It seems that you are doing all the right things as far as diet and exercise goes.  Stress can create elevated cholesterol and if that is your problem learn to control your stress factor... You don't mention that factor in your case so I am throwing that in as an added bonus should it apply...

If stress should figure in for you and you are under a great deal of pressure and stress you might want to add Dr Garland's Tolerance StressX Master Formula to your daily regimen and see what happens with your cholesterol readings after a few weeks and see if that number is a normal for you or not... But either way, if it were me I would not take Vytorin until you look at all aspects of changing the numbers! Honestly, I would never take it but you have to make that determination for you!

NOW TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION about taking Vytorin with herbs? No, prescribed cholesterol drugs suppress areas of the body that are needed to work to create a healthier body along with depleting your body of nutrients necessary for good health so that will cause your body to start to break down sometime in the future... Vytorin (a statin drug) being one of those... You most likely will not need it with the herbal formula and minerals...  Follow directions as emailed to you... Do not expect immediate results as herbs and minerals work different than chemical drugs and will have to take time to get your body in balance so that all areas work better and can lower your cholesterol, if in fact your body needs it lowered...  That is the problem with so many when they go natural, they lack the patience to wait for the body to heal and balance itself. That can take anywhere from days to months depending on the person's total health at the moment of starting herbs.

Another thing concerns me with men taking Vytorin or any other statin drug. In their own Vytorin information, it states that "Sterility and testicular shrinkage in rats and dogs, making it 22 times more likely than with humans. It doesn't say it won't happen in men just that it's more likely to happen in the animals..." Being only 45 you might want to take that into consideration... Over the years I've discovered that drug industries format of language is nothing more than jargan to try and placate the human race into thinking a drug is safe for them when later years (20 or more years later) it's proven the human factor was the same or more so than the animals likely hood... So if I were a man I wouldn't touch Vytorin with a ten-foot-pole if I valued my sterility factor!!!  Another factor as stated by the manufacturer; is that Vytorin is touted to work by " suppressing the intestinal tract".  Why would anyone in their right mind want to suppress the intestinal tract? That step will upset the balance of necessary natural intestinal flora and that can mean serious consequences by suppressing the immune system, creating inflammation and later show up as a myriad of other health issues, including cancer and/or autoimmune diseases.

ALSO
: All the testing coming out in the last few years - the latest just last week - is showing that heart blockages are not from elevated cholesterol but from inflammation in the blood stream. Our society's lifestyle of smoking, drinking to excess and eating habits along with a polluted environment is killing most of a person's immune system by decimating the digestive tract therefore, the digestive tract needs to be made as strong as possible, not weakened. When that is strong inflammation is far less likely to result in your body that will prevent most heart disease.

You don't smoke, you get exercise, you eat well but sadly eating well can't guarantee your health as our foods do not contain the mineral nutrients that will keep our immune system strong therefore supplementing is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. The two most important supplements you would require; a minerals balance; I recommend LIFE TRANSFUSION IONIC LIQUID MINERALS  a second necessity; balance your digestive part of the immune system PROBIOTICS WITH BALANCED DIGESTIVE ENZYMES daily... A must to the whole body... Keep stress damage to a minimum... If you have a high stress level get Dr. Garland's TOLERANCE STRESS-X formula and take 1 or 2 capsules three times a day to control damage to the Adrenal System caused by stress...

Be sure your gums and teeth are healthy as they can hide a huge amount of inflammation. My experience, working in the doctor’s office, found that people who had healthy gums and teeth usually didn’t require medications from the doctor and simply visited once a year for their physical just to make sure.  Sadly those were few and far between!

I hope this helped to settle your dilemma!

Thought for the Day

Cochrane researchers examined every influenza vaccine study conducted between 1948 and 2007.  Their conclusion: "There is no evidence whatsoever that seasonal influenza vaccines have any effect, especially in the elderly and young children. No evidence of reduced cases, deaths, complications."

So the CDC--these very mainstreamers who are always telling us that supplements don't have gold standard proof of effectiveness--are recommending that nearly every person in the U.S. should get this completely unproven vaccine next year.  They're going to be mystified when millions of people just say, "No."

THE BEST REVENGE

One person jokingly says she never goes to bed angry. Instead, she stays awake and plots her revenge.

As one story goes, a group of occupational soldiers hired a local boy to run errands for them. The soldiers liked to relieve stress by playing practical jokes on the young boy. They would hide his belongings, put gum in his shoes, or send him on silly errands.

The boy handled the joking quite well. He never seemed upset by it. After a while, the soldiers decided that they had bothered the child enough. They approached him to apologize and to tell him that they would no longer play any jokes on him.

The boy replied in stilted English, "You stop making joke on me, I stop spitting in your soup."

He had his revenge. But for most of us, revenge turns out to be more bitter than sweet. Unsatisfying at best. It "has no more quenching effect on emotions than salt water has on thirst," one writer says. And it's true. The desire to inflict hurt and pain remains long after one has given in to the urge to get even. Bitter emotions are more often quenched by love and understanding than by fighting back.

Over 400 years ago, the English poet George Herbert said, "Living well is the best revenge." Good advice - especially when tempted to get even.
