ASK LENA HEALTH Q & A
EDITION!
====================================
Today's question from a gentleman is a question I
haven't receive from men in the past and when something
new shows up I automatically think some of you might be
interested in the answers I gave Bill.
With summer almost here and summer guests already
beginning I will do my best to not shortchange you with
less than informative helpful information and will
continue to answer questions presented!
The answers
to questions submitted to me each week come from my 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along
with many years and ongoing education in nutritional and alternative
treatment modes. Add that to
many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland,
a very knowledgeable naturopath and herbologist, who
many years ago, beat his cancer death sentence given by
the traditional medical world, has helped along the
alternatives
path and
hopefully help to give hope to those who need it... Also
receiving a lot of study reports and try to ascertain
if they are good or bad then report them to you, which
has increased my knowledge along the way and I pass them on to you to
use or not...
I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of
me as one!!
My years observing life and health of the many
people/patients around me and the contradictions of the
traditional medical world's idea of treating -
prescription domino effect - while watching those same
schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but
creating far more health problems than they help. Those same medical
professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy
or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for
something to change that premise for myself and those
around me. In looking outside the Westernized medical
profession I found and continue to find alternatives
that really work to create health and longevity - when
adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical
world can do...
Ask Lena Health Questions and Answers is for your
information and education only and in some instances to
give you a different perspective on a particular
problem! My wish for you, in the use of the information
gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and
safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm
it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in
addition to... Even though I daily watch people become
healthy with the information imparted here nothing works
100% of the time for 100% of people...
I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a
problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope
that will be your attitude as well!

QUESTION:
This question may seem frivolous, but if
you had acne you wouldn't think so. My doctor told me
that what you eat doesn't cause acne break out, but it
seems that when I have too much chocolate, I will break
out. It's not the sugar because it's usually hot
chocolate that has artificial sweetener in it not
sugar. Does chocolate create acne or what? Do you know
if chocolate is good or bad for acne sufferers like me?
Bill
ANSWER:
Nothing is petty when it affects your
life and/or health! I am also assuming you are an adult
and not a young male and will answer to an adult male as
adolescent have some different causes. Your deductions
are fairly accurate but you left out some possibilities.
99% of doctors wouldn't have a clue to whether your diet
affects your health or not so they simply say it
doesn't! Doctors are not given nutrition classes or
taught proper nutritional healing in medical school, so
what do they know?
In 1975 scientists confirmed the link between food and
mood. But sadly physicians still see it as not important
to keep up on the latest nutritional/food information. Of course the
pharmaceutical industry that runs our medical schools
can't afford for them to know about it either, therefore they offer no
help. If they did it mean a lot of money out of their
pockets. I can say that only one of the twenty-plus
doctors I assisted over my twenty years in medical
offices, thought diet important in treating any health
problem!
The adage; "You are what you eat," is absolutely
true. So is the adage, "Food is medicine."
But the way
food affects you can be different in each of us as we are all
different in our upbringing and habits and our body
builds up a tolerance from some things others may have a
problem with or vice versa.
Acne can be a combination of things or one particular
cause, but here are the most likely probabilities in
adulthood!
Scientist's say that "Moods regulate the hormonal
system," which in turn trigger good or bad responses in our
body, also our immune system responses. Hence, "Thoughts
truly are things," or "As you think so are you," makes
for our hormones/testosterone reacting or not reacting
as they are intended! Hormone and/or testosterone shifts
create acne, so look to your stress situation first.
Stress is an instigator of hormonal/testosterone
shifts, which create a condition for acne. So if you
tend to be stressed out a lot then you are going to find
that your reproductive system and thyroid not working as
it should at times, which can cause adult acne.
Before you start snickering about having hormones let me tell you! Yes, men
have hormones as well as women just the same as women
have testosterone also. True, men do not have as much as
women but
enough that it can affect your body, or it wouldn't be
there! With stress experienced so often these days and the
hormonal/testosterone shifts we are seeing much more
acne in men than before!
But Bill, in your case I'm betting it's most likely the
artificial sweetener in your chocolate (generic
name aspartame)! Acne is one of the known
side effects of artificial sweeteners,
along with other more severe health issues such as;
MS, Lupus, fibromyalgia and a variety
of severe neurological and autoimmune
diseases that has been traced to the consistent use of
artificial sweeteners and the huge climb in those health
issues since artificial sweeteners came on the market.
Other possibilities; adding whipped cream to your
chocolate, as most people do. Dairy products are a
great producer of acne, especially whipped creams
as it is the fatty part of the milk. Or it could be the
chocolate. Roasted cocoa - which real chocolate comes
from -
in your chocolate that can
contains as much as 50 chemicals created in processing
the chocolate. Those chemicals can stimulate changes in body
chemistry - hormone/testosterone/thyroid! Chocolate also contains fat
as Cocoa butter is
a fat and unless you are drinking defatted chocolate you
may be getting sufficient quantity of fat from that, especially if
you are adding whipped cream. It could be the
whole combination of artificial sugar, fat in chocolate
and whipped cream and chocolate processing chemicals!
Be a detective; try a week of drinking Hot Chocolate
with regular table sugar, then a week without whipped cream, then
try a week with sweetener, etc. and find out which is
the culprit or maybe it's a combination of culprits! Be
sure to give it a full week between trial cups or at
least 72 hours. I
strongly urge you to stay away from artificial
sweeteners, AT ALL COSTS! Too many neurological
problems have shown up since aspartame was put on the
market and a few smart Neurologists are telling their patients
to stay away from anything saying artificial sweetener
or aspartame.
Stevia
is a great natural plant sugar not processed with
chemicals. Don't fall for the advertising of the new
sweeteners on the market that is trying to mislead you
that they are made from the Stevia plant!
I also say STAY AWAY FROM Splenda, for at least fifteen
or twenty years until the all the facts are in on it, as
what we know now it isn't good for neither man nor
beast! The potential for health disaster is there! Read
"Is
Splenda As Splendid As The Manufacturer Wants You To
Believe?"
Nothing in health and/or medicine is absolute, for the
majority of people but by being a good health detective
can determine for sure what is creating your problem.
If you find its not food then you most certainly can say
it's hormone/testosterone related. Dr. Garland has a
Male
Ching Formula that is helping men in the
testosterone department but to achieve the ultimate
production it will require taking the
Ionic Liquid Minerals.
For any woman with acne reading this Dr. Garland's
ultimate hormonal/testosterone formula is
Balanced
Woman Herbal Formula and
Ionic liquid minerals. Works great for my 40+
daughter!

Good luck in your detective work and controlling your
acne!

Thought for the Day
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
Dr. Scott H.
Sicherer, an associate professor of pediatrics at the
Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at Mount Sinai School of
Medicine in New York and his team tested nearly 400
products without any food allergy labels. Nineteen
products contained food allergens. Of those 19 products,
50 percent of them contained enough of a specific
allergen to prompt a reaction in sensitive people. The
labeling of food products for potential allergens falls
under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection
Act of 2004 (FALCPA). This law mandates that products
containing the following "major" food allergens must be
labeled: eggs, milk, tree nuts, peanuts, fish,
crustacean shellfish, soybeans, and any product derived
from these.
Another excellent reason to leave prepackaged junk food
on the shelf—right where it belongs.

MOTIVATOR
~^~^~^~^~^~^
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?
"Well, what do you expect?" Has
anybody ever asked you that?
Sometimes, my greatest disappointments have come because
I expected something that was simply not realistic.
You may know that Robert Lucas won the 1995 Nobel
Memorial Prize in economics. His ex-wife received half
of his $1 million award. Yes, his EX-wife. As it
happened, when they were divorcing in 1988, she had her
lawyer add one tiny clause to the property settlement:
"Wife shall receive 50 percent of any Nobel prize." And
her clause had an expiration date: October 31, 1995. He
won the prize on October 10.
One would think that her expectation of him winning a
Nobel Prize might be irrational. How many people do
that? It's something like my winning the Iron Man
Marathon by the year 3000. That just won't happen.
But the difference is that I don't train, and she seemed
to be sure that it was only a matter of time before his
outstanding work would be recognized in such a way.
Within seven years, she thought. So it turned out her
expectation was entirely rational. (Ironically, Lucas
was honored for an economic theory he called, "Rational
Expectations.")
I admittedly know nothing about Lucas' Theory of
Rational Expectations in economics. But I do know
something about irrational expectations among people.
And I know that irrational expectations can cause untold
disappointment.
Like the expectation that someone else will make me
happy. This is irrational. Nobody can make me happy.
That is my job. If I expect others to make me happy or
to keep me happy, I know I will be disappointed again
and again.
Or the expectation that life should be, for the most
part, relatively easy and problem free. This, too, is
irrational. Bad things happen. Living can be difficult.
If I expect things to be easy, if I expect NOT to have
problems, if I expect to avoid pain and heartache, I
know I will be in for serious disappointment. Problems
are here to stay.
I don't mean to paint a picture of life as bleak and
miserable. It isn't. In fact, I think it is amazingly
wonderful. And all the more wonderful when I don't
expect too much out of it. I expect problems, but I also
expect to find joy. I do not expect others to always
please me, but I do expect to be responsible for my own
well-being.
So...what did you expect? I think if you can answer that
question well, you can expect to be much happier.
