ASK LENA HEALTH Q & A
EDITION!
====================================
Had a great weekend and thank you
for all the calls and emails on Sunday, our 51st wedding
anniversary, much enjoyed and appreciated. I am so proud
of my family I thought it might be nice for you to take
a look at a small part of them.
Today's question is one I wish I
had not received as I hate it when a child is involved
and conventional medicine continues to mess them up
rather than make them better.
Also today's
MOTIVATOR may not seem like a motivator but it truly is,
just have a tissue handy, if you are as tuned in as I
was when I received it from Steve...
The answers
to questions submitted to me each week come from my 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along
with many years and ongoing education in nutritional and alternative
treatment modes. Add that to
many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland,
a very knowledgeable naturopath and herbologist, who
many years ago, beat his cancer death sentence given by
the traditional medical world, has helped along the
alternatives
path and
hopefully help to give hope to those who need it... Also
receiving a lot of study reports and try to ascertain
if they are good or bad then report them to you, which
has increased my knowledge along the way and I pass them on to you to
use or not...
I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of
me as one!!
My years observing life and health of the many
people/patients around me and the contradictions of the
traditional medical world's idea of treating -
prescription domino effect - while watching those same
schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but
creating far more health problems than they help. Those same medical
professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy
or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for
something to change that premise for myself and those
around me. In looking outside the Westernized medical
profession I found and continue to find alternatives
that really work to create health and longevity - when
adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical
world can do...
Ask Lena Health Questions and Answers is for your
information and education only and in some instances to
give you a different perspective on a particular
problem! My wish for you, in the use of the information
gained here, is that you will apply it in a smart and
safe manner in order to enhance your life and not harm
it! Not to be used in place of your judgment but in
addition to... Even though I daily watch people become
healthy with the information imparted here nothing works
100% of the time for 100% of people...
I have always felt that I had to know all sides to a
problem and then make a decision for myself and I hope
that will be your attitude as well!

===========================
QUESTION:
Hi,
My daughter's name is Xxxxx. She is 16 months old. She
was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease (SS type). She
has been on Penicillin prophylaxis twice a day since she
was 2 months old. She has been in the hospital several
times for high fever. The protocol is always the same.
A 48 hour stay, they do blood and urine cultures to
check for bacteria, then immediately give her
Ceftriaxione, often with other broad spectrum
antibiotics as well (Gentomyocin, Omnicef, Azythromycin
_sorry about spelling). Her blood work always comes
back negative for bacteria. So they send us home saying
that it is probably viral. They could never tell me why
she kept getting recurrent fevers- for days, even weeks
at a time. They would just say continue giving her
Tylenol every 4 hours. For weeks at a time, she would
get Tylenol or Ibuprofen to lower the fever because I
hated to see her lay limp and lifeless. I wanted to
give her some relief.
Recently, after a hospital stay of 3 days, they sent her
home with fever because after running several tests,
they again could not figure out why she had a fever
again. At home she broke out into a horrible, itchy
rash all over her body. I took her to urgent care, they
did nothing, I was going to take her to the
dermatologist, but, the Lord led me to take her to see
an Allergist/Immunologist instead. He did blood work
and determined that she was allergic to Penicillin! I
called the hospital where she goes for Sickle Cell to
get another prescription; they said they could not
believe that after taking Penicillin all this time that
she is allergic to it. I am so frustrated with "modern
medicine." They said after the rash heals completely
they want to give her Penicillin again to see, if, in
fact, she is allergic, because she would not be able to
take any Penicillin related medications such as
Ceftriaxione which is a standard for Sickle Cell
patients. Why would I want to subject my child to that
miserable rash again just to see if she is indeed
allergic to Penicillin?
If she is allergic, that means that all of those
expensive hospitalizations and all of the painful urine
catheterizations and blood being drawn and gross amounts
of antibiotics that were given was all for nothing!!!
I really need to know if there is a natural alternative
that I can give my daughter that will build her immune
system and help her body to fight off infections. It is
said, that Sickle Cell patients have issues with their
spleens not working, fyi. My family and I have been
praying and believing for a miracle. I believe that God
does have a cure for every disease - either naturally or
supernaturally- any advice is welcome. Thank you for
taking time to read this e-mail. I am looking forward
to any helpful advice. I believe God is going to honor
our prayer requests concerning Sarah.
Thank you again,
Tausha
ANSWER:
Thank you for the question Tausha. I'm
sorry it even needs to be asked. The answers I am giving
you is most likely only the beginning, if you choose to
follow them, and changes will have to be made often,
since she is so young!
I can see why you are frustrated. Sickle Cell is such a
mind bending road for parents and later the child. It
cannot be reversed but can be controlled naturally
making it less likely to have Sickle Cell Episodes. One
of my oldest daughter's friend has sickle cell and we
have watched her experience problems. Sadly I cannot say
she is doing well or not as we have not been close to
her since moving from California or since I learned so
much about alternative medicine. She has a family now
and the last time I saw her she was doing very well.
It is not at all uncommon for anyone to become allergic
to Penicillin at any given time after they have had it
ongoing. I saw that a lot in pediatrics and Internal
Medicine. That attitude tells me that conventional
medicine is deteriorating more than even I thought it
would. Medical personal's inability to pay attention to
what goes on with the patients around them and less to
the drug reps, could change that!
You probably already know some of what I am going to
write here but my "Ask Lena" readers may not, so
for their information I give this to better understand a
problem;
Treating an infant as young as your daughter is not easy
and sadly, Sickle cell disease is a most common
inherited blood disorder in the United States, affecting
70,000 to 80,000 Americans. While too many think of it
as an African and African American disease that is not
the case... The disease is estimated to occur in 1 in
500 African Americans and 1 in 1,000 to 1,400 Hispanic
Americans. It affects millions of people worldwide.
Sickle cell anemia is most common among people whose
ancestors come from Africa; Mediterranean countries such
as Greece, Turkey, and Italy; the Arabian Peninsula;
India; and Spanish-speaking regions in South and Central
America, and parts of the Caribbean.
Sickle cell disease isn't simply one disease; it is a
group of disorders that affects hemoglobin, the molecule
in red blood cells that delivers oxygen to cells
throughout the body. People with this disorder have
atypical hemoglobin molecules called hemoglobin S, which
can change the shape of normal red blood cells into a
sickle, or crescent shape - hence how it got it's name.
Sickle cell creates circulatory problems which lessens
the distribution of oxygen to organs of the body. One of
the first things you must make sure of is that it is
extremely imperative she drink lots of filtered/purified
water every day, to help move those abnormal cells and
good cells along.
The fevers your daughter is having isn't all that
unusual in sickle cell children nor in a child without
sickle cell. Little bodies are growing bones fast and
producing blood cells fast, which the body reacts to.
With sickle cell children are more apt to have problems.
It may simply mean her body is reacting to that growth
and nothing more as abnormal cells increase. That could
very well be the reason they find nothing every time you
take her to the doctor. When working in pediatrics I
witnessed a lot of children running fevers that never
have a visual cause nor could be detected.
Fever is also a normal response of the body to infection
or virus that it perceives and how the body fights
anything that it believes doesn't belong in the body,
such as abnormal red cells. In children a fever is
usually due to a minor problem but it can also be the
first symptom of a very serious infection. So mothers
tend to panic.
Even though a child with sickle cell anemia is more
susceptible to serious infections such as septicemia (infection
of the blood or blood poisoning), which she
apparently is not having therefore it stands to reason
she is experiencing either having those unexplained
fevers that kids have or a slight virus or a reaction to
the fast growing sickle cells. If her fever is below 103 º
let it go as fever is a good thing and if it is a virus
the body's immune system will kill it without
interference from moms. Fevers are very common in
children and most are simply the immune systems attempt
to kill whatever is invading the body.
Sadly, with sickle cell it can simply mean her body is
producing the abnormal sickle cells and the body
perceives it to be foreign. Abnormal cells could simply
be having a hard time moving through her body or
starving her little body from oxygen. Oxygen
insufficiency is one of sickle cell's problem areas.
That would be my guess for her since she has had so many
antibiotics that her immune system is very weak if not
totally decimated...
If you haven't read my article "Fever and Its
Necessity To Good Health"
Click here to do so as it might help curb some of
your stress and help keep your fear level down.
There are some things you can do that will keep the body
from manufacturing so many sickle cells as well as
distribute oxygen more freely to the brain and circulate
throughout the whole body. Being 16 months old it is
going to require a bit more work on your part to get
those things into her little body as they are geared to
older children and adults.
Because I'm quite sure she has a poorly functioning
immune system we will need to build up her immune system
as well as work to prevent any sickle cell crises at the
same time.
We are going to presume the doctor's are correct in that
she has a virus going on, just to be on the safe side
and it can be treated without adverse problems. That
requires a two part system to rebuilding her immune
system! Starting with a daily preventative as
well as an immune system booster;
Ionic
Silver Water 1/2 teaspoon morning and evening
on an empty stomach. This will help alleviate the
onset of any virus or bacteria until the immune system
is rebuilt to maximum strength to take over the job.
With her I would even say it would be a great
prophylaxis to take it daily while she is growing to
help keep her immune system strong.
Second part; A definite must is digestive enzymes
and strong probiotics to rebuild the largest part
(80%) of the immune system that resides in the stomach
and intestinal tracts. You may be able to find those in
liquid form at your local health food store. If not we
have it in a
capsule form that you can mix with juice for her.
Then work on oxygenating and building as healthy red
cells as possible with the following steps...
The absolute life giving
Life
Transfusion Ionic Liquid Balanced minerals is the
way to begin that process with both oxygen circulation
and electrical activity making for better distribution
to the rest of the organs.
This will require starting with WEEK ONE; 3 to 4
drops in fresh juice or mixed with her food morning
and early afternoon no later than 4 pm - as later
could create a problem with her sleeping from the
electrical brain activity that will be generated with
this complex. WEEK TWO and thereafter; 5 to 6
drops minerals twice a day in juice. This will
not only better oxygenate the body but feed the brain
better signals to producing her growing body and organs.
After the age of 10 or 11 one teaspoon twice a day is
recommended depending on her diet but that will have to
slowly be increased to reach that amount.
NEXT:
Mind Power formula - WEEK ONE: open one
capsule and mix with food or in juice glass with
breakfast and lunch. This formula of herbs will help
the body generate more oxygen allowing more oxygen
circulation to the body. WEEK TWO and thereafter:
2 capsules sprinkled on her food with breakfast and
lunch. As she ages this dose will need to be
increased but not for another few years and we will work
with you as to when that will need to happen.
NEXT: not the least of which is NATTOKINASE
MAX. This formula not only clears arteries and
allows smoothness of movement of cells through the body
but has Arginine that helps the body produce a balance
of Nitric Oxide, which is so key to the body's cell
production of healthy cells and can help minimize the
production of abnormal cells. This formula is not yet on
our site but will be in the next few weeks.
Sickle cell anemia can damage the blood vessels in the
eyes. Parents should ask their child's doctor about
regular checkups with an eye doctor who specializes in
diseases of the retina. The retina is a thin layer of
tissue inside the back of the eye. This because the eyes
have such small veins and capillaries that nourishment
has a hard time reaching them with the abnormal sickle
cells is made more difficult. The Nattokinase will help
that but she should also be getting
Vision
Nutrition formula that will even more assist and
speed nourishment to the eyes. Again this is a capsule
and will need to be opened and sprinkled in juice or on
her food. 1 Capsule at least 12 hours apart at
breakfast and dinner, but food isn't a requirement
for the herbs to work, but water is.
Herbs require lots of water for the body to achieve
their benefits. This is one of the errors so many people
make when taking herbs and then they say the herbs
didn't work. Hydration is key to their efficacy...
Dr. Garland and I are here to help you achieve the best
possible health with ongoing guidance and answering
questions so don't hesitate to ask!

Thought for the Day
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
In 1999, a report by the
Institute of Medicine (IOM) claimed that nearly 98,000 people die
each year as a result of completely preventable medical errors. Ten
years later (2009), things have only gotten worse. The latest report
by the Consumers Union claims that medical errors are causing more
preventable deaths than ever, more than heroine, cocaine or alcohol
-- over 100,000 deaths each year.

MOTIVATOR

THE HAND
At first it sounded like a
Thanksgiving story, but the more I reflected on it, the
more appropriate it seemed for any time of the year. The
way I heard it, the story went like this:
Thanksgiving Day was near. The first grade teacher gave
her class a fun assignment -- to draw a picture of
something for which they were thankful.
Most of the class might be considered economically
disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the
holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies of the
season. These, the teacher thought, would be the
subjects of most of her student's art. And they were.
But Douglas made a different kind of picture. Douglas
was a different kind of boy. He was the teacher's true
child of misery, frail and unhappy. As other children
played at recess, Douglas was likely to stand close by
her side. One could only guess at the pain Douglas felt
behind those sad eyes.
Yes, his picture was different. When asked to draw a
picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew
a hand. Nothing else. Just an empty hand.
His abstract image captured the imagination of his
peers. Whose hand could it be? One child guessed it was
the hand of a farmer, because farmers raise turkeys.
Another suggested a police officer, because the police
protect and care for people. Still others guessed it was
the hand of God, for God feeds us. And so the
discussion went -- until the teacher almost forgot the
young artist himself.
When the children had gone on to other assignments, she
paused at Douglas' desk, bent down, and asked him whose
hand it was. The little boy looked away and murmured,
"It's yours, teacher."
She recalled the times she had taken his hand and walked
with him here or there, as she had the other students.
How often had she said, "Take my hand, Douglas, we'll go
outside." Or, "Let me show you how to hold your pencil."
Or, "Let's do this together." Douglas was most thankful
for his teacher's hand.
Brushing aside a tear, she went on with her work.
The story speaks of more than thankfulness. It says
something about teachers teaching and parents parenting
and friends showing friendship, and how much it means to
the Douglases of the world. They might not always say
thanks. But they'll remember the hand that reaches out.
