Today's question has never been presented nor did I hear it
exactly this way but frequency and urgency has
multiple causes and hopefully have helped Philip with
his dilemma.
The answers
to questions submitted to me each week come from my 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along
with many years and ongoing education in nutritional and alternative
treatment modes. Add that to
many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland,
a very knowledgeable naturopath and herbologist, who
many years ago, beat his cancer death sentence given by
the traditional medical world, has helped along the
alternatives
path and
hopefully help to give hope to those who need it... Also
receiving a lot of study reports and try to ascertain
if they are good or bad then report them to you, which
has increased my knowledge along the way and I pass them on to you to
use or not...
I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of
me as one!!
My years observing life and health of the many
people/patients around me and the contradictions of the
traditional medical world's idea of treating -
prescription domino effect - while watching and also was
taught those same
schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but
creating far more health problems than they help. Those same medical
professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy
or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for
something to change that premise for myself and those
around me who ask. In looking outside the Westernized medical
profession I found and continue to find alternatives
that really work to create health and longevity - when
adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical
world can do...

QUESTION:
Hi,
I'm a frequent flyer and I find that as soon as I
get on a plane my bladder starts working. On average I'd
say that I have to make a trip to the toilet every 30
minutes or so, which means that on a 10-hour
international flight I'm making some 20 trips! In
everyday life I make frequent visits too, compared to
people I know, but nothing like 30 minutes. The symptom
started about 20 years ago as far as I can recall (I'm
64 now). Is this something I should be worried about?
There are no other symptoms such as pain when urinating
or inability to actually produce urine. Because it
forces me to get up and walk about frequently when I'm
on a plane, I've always considered it as a useful way to
counter economy-flight syndrome, but I'd like to be sure
that it's not a symptom of something. Anything you can
tell me would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER:
I'm so glad you are giving me permission
to publish your question Philip, as I have never
received one like it and I don't want you to think I
know it all either. But it is possibly interesting to my
readers! I do have answers but you will have to be the
detective and find the definitive one! As to whether to
worry? That can only be answered when you consider the
following. My first reaction would be to day no, but
until all else is ruled out I can't say that for sure!
I do know that pressurization can affect the body in
different ways and I would suspect it's affecting you
with your bladder? BUT, since you have frequent
urination outside the plane you should take a look at
what other things may be going on?
You do not say when you had your last physical exam? If
I knew the answer to that I could maybe be more
definitive but without knowing I am going to give all
the causes and you will have to be your problem solver?
Since this has been going on for twenty years I am
assuming you have seen a doctor several times and have
told him of this problem. If not you should!
At 64, you say it started when you were approximately
44, I would say that most likely you have a very small
bladder and you will need to work hard to stretch it,
but at the outside chance it could be other problems I'm
going to outline those other possibilities and let you
be the judge.
First; if you haven't had the following
things checked out you should.
1.
If you have not done so you should have a 5 or 6 hour
glucose tolerance blood (GTT) check done. Your doctor
will have to order it. Usually a fasting blood glucose
is done with normal blood tests during physicals but a
fasting glucose can be normal with borderline or new
onset diabetes, so you will need a 5 or 6 hr. GTT. That
will require you to do a 3 day preparation before the
GTT to assure accuracy. Sadly, most labs forget to
tell you that necessity, but to get a totally
accurate test it should be done. [This I discovered
while working with an excellent Internist for 6.5 years
and he found lots of diabetics that other doctors had
missed over the years.] PREP: You will need
to gorge yourself with a diet high in sugars and
carbohydrates for three days prior to the GTT, then
fast a full 12 hours before having the first blood
sugar drawn. You may feel really badly those days as
your body will not like all that sugar glut but it's
necessary to get the proper action from the pancreas.
Having a GTT will require six hours of your time at a
lab as venous blood draws will occur over and over
during that time, some hourly some half-hourly.
2. If you have already done the GTT disregard
number 1. The next suspect would be your prostate. An
enlarged prostate will create frequent urination that
starts out so subtly that you might not even notice in
the beginning and gradually progress until you can't
miss it. I will say that a PSA blood test, which would
be done if you had a physical lately, but useless as 64%
are inaccurate in showing false abnormals and about 22%
normal that are borderline or abnormal, so that leaves a
really small margin that could be accurate,. I always
say to save your money and forget having a PSA test, of
course your doctor will totally disagree with me... Your
doctor could do a manual exam and tell you if you have
an enlarged prostate, of course only if he knows your
prostate well and has been checking you for years.
Or you can simply start a natural prostate
treatment to assure your prostate stays healthy or
shrink if it is enlarged and not worry about the
accuracy or inaccuracy of PSA tests. We have lots of men
doing that and my 73 year-old husband and 50 year-old
son and a 75 year-old good friend, just three of those.
My son and our friend had chronic prostatitis in the
past and took antibiotics but prostatitis kept coming
back as the prostate problem wasn't solved until they
started the natural treatment and that stopped the
prostatitis reoccurrence.
Here is what they do:
Daily;
LIFE
TRANSFUSION IONIC LIQUID MINERALS (Follow
normal instructions that accompany all orders will
eventually be taking 1 teaspoon) twice a day
but no later than 4pm as it activates the brains
electrical fields and in some creates a problem getting
to sleep if taken in late afternoon or early evening.
We have no problem here with that but some do.
Then the two punch formulas to assure ongoing
circulation that will stop the risk of clots in the
prostate and other areas...
A)
CIRCULATORY SUPPORT - 3 morning and evening
with meals - to assure your circulatory system
functions keeping the prostate detoxed and fluids
flowing as it should.
B) This one is something you should be taking even
if you don't have a problem simply because you are
traveling such long treks and are at risk of getting
blood clots, especially at your age
NATTOKINASE PLUS the artery clearer (first
month, if you are going to get on a plane, take 2
morning and 2 evening on empty stomach) thereafter 1
morning and 1 evening will suffice to keep your arteries
clot free.. You might be interested to know that I
was finally able to talk my best friend into replacing
her 5 prescribed blood thinners with this and she has
had great results and no more clots, which she still got
twice a year while taking the prescribed blood thinners.
This stuff is murder on blood clot problems.

3. If those things have been done then it will
be time to start stretching your bladder or simply
accept the inconvenience of going so often. Stretching
the bladder will be uncomfortable as you will have to
forgo emptying your bladder for 5 to 15 minutes (the
longer the better) beyond the urge to empty. Each time
you are to push your bladder to hold more. Stretching it
can take several weeks to months to achieve success.
Over time you will notice the need will be further and
further apart.
I don't know if these answers are satisfactory but I
can only state what I know or think would cause your
problem.

According to a National Public Radio (NPR)
news flash!
When a salad is eaten with fat-free or low-fat salad
dressing your body doesn't absorb carotenoids as well as
when you use an oil-based salad dressing, such as olive

A school music teacher received this
essay from an eight-year-old student concerning Johann
Sebastian Bach: "He was a GREAT composer. He had 20
children and had an old spinster in the attic to
practice on."
Actually, I don't know the exact number of children he
had, but it seems to be quite a few. And I don't know
what he kept in the attic ... or what he practiced on.
But the student was absolutely right about one thing:
Bach was a GREAT composer.
Not all of us can be great at what we do. I try to do
some things the very best I can. But that means I cannot
give much attention to some of the less important tasks.
But what about just being good at WHO WE ARE? Good human
beings? Even being GREAT at who we are?
Author James Michener learned something about greatness
on a stormy night in the South Pacific. His plane was
trying desperately to land on the Tontouta airstrip but
could not do so. After several attempts in the dark of
night, his knuckles were white with fear. When they
finally landed safely, Michener went out and walked the
length of the airstrip, looking at the dim outlines of
the mountains they had so narrowly missed. He wrote
this:
"And as I stood there in the darkness I caught a glimpse
of the remaining years of my life and I swore an oath
when peace came, if I survived, I would live the rest of
my years as if I were a great man. I did not presume to
think that I would be a great man. I have never thought
in those terms, but I could conduct myself as if I were.
I would adhere to my basic principles. I would bear
public testimony to what I believed. I would be a better
man. I would help others. I would truly believe and act
as if all men were my brothers. And I would strive to
make whatever world in which I found myself a better
place. In the darkness a magnificent peace settled over
me, for I saw that I could actually attain each of those
objectives, and I never looked back."
Michener says that the very next day he started to draft
the book TALES OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC.* And if it can ever
be said that he became a great man, I suspect it was
only because he decided to be a better man than he was
before.
Greatness may never have been your goal. But you and I
can be a little better today than we were yesterday. We
can help others a bit more today than yesterday. We can
act more deliberately as if all people are our sisters
and brothers. We can leave the world a better place
tomorrow than we found it today.
And if that is the way to greatness, then we all can
head that direction. One step at a time ... beginning
today.
