Today's question is one that too many suffer with and  sadly conventional medicine hasn't a clue that the chemical imbalance -the reason they give for manic, bipolar, schizophrenic and other dementia health issues - is nothing more than mineral. They freely admit that an imbalance of chemicals is causing the glut of mentally ill people on our streets and hospitals yet give them nothing to truly correct the problem.  This gentleman is looking for answers and they are there to be taken advantage of if he wishes to.

The answers to questions submitted to me each week come from my 20+ years as a Medical Office Nurse along with many years and ongoing education in nutritional and alternative treatment modes. Add that to many years of friendship with Dr. Wayne Garland, a very knowledgeable naturopath and herbologist, who many years ago, beat his cancer death sentence given by the traditional medical world, has helped along the alternatives path and hopefully help to give hope to those who need it... Also receiving a lot of study reports and try to ascertain if they are good or bad then report them to you, which has increased my knowledge along the way and I pass them on to you to use or not...

I am not a doctor or dentist and you should not think of me as one!!
My years observing life and health of the many people/patients around me and the contradictions of the traditional medical world's idea of treating - prescription domino effect - while watching and also was taught those same schooled methods that aren't relieving illness but creating far more health problems than they help. Those same medical professionals aren't telling people how to get healthy or how to prevent illness, which led me to look for something to change that premise for myself and those around me who ask. In looking outside the Westernized medical profession I found and continue to find alternatives that really work to create health and longevity - when adhered to - beyond anything the traditional medical world can do...

QUESTION:
 
Thank you for taking the time to read my e-mail and help me!  I have 2 conditions that have really wrecked my life up to this point, I do not live a normal life and need help?
 
First, I take 2 medications for depression, one is Lexapro 20mg./day and the other is Risperdal 2mg./day.  I do feel better, but I don't know what these 2 drugs are doing to my brain, what are the long term effects going to be on my health?  What are your recommendations concerning depression and what you would do if you were in my shoes/
 
Second, I have severe chronic halitosis, I've know about it since the 5th. grade and I've seen several dentists and doctors and no one has any solutions.  I'm 36 yrs. old, no drinking, no smoking, I workout 4Xs/week, but my brain and my breath are ruining my life, I don't want to live the rest of my live, like the previous 36 yrs.

If you have any additional questions to ask me or any advice that would help me in the slightest, I'd greatly appreciate your kindness.  Thanks...Brad
 
My Followup questions to Brad before I could answer him:

1. What is your daily diet like? Give me an example!
2. Do you smoke? Do you drink alcohol or sodas or lots of coffee?
3. Are you exhibiting any symptoms other than depression?
4. Have you been given other diagnosis(s) than depression to warrant those medications?
5. How long have you been taking them?
6. Do you take any other supplements, Vitamins, etc.? If so what?

Some or all of those things can affect your reaction to any medications and what damage is being done by them, but specially antidepressants and such! Once I get answers to those questions I can better give you and answer to your questions that will truly help you.

 
ANSWER:
 
Brad answered my questions and got a failing grade in the diet, supplements and self worth department, but can be corrected if he wishes to do the work to change it... Not at all unusual with mental health issues! Here are my answers to him.

Brad, Your daughter is very lucky and you should know that. Fathers are very important to girls and she is in the beginning age that it is even more important that you be there 100% for her... Let's get your life in order so she can have the father she deserves!

Your lifestyle is so atrocious that helping you will require a total lifestyle change and I'm not sure you want to do that.  But I'm offering it anyway. Think about it and call me if you want to talk about it. 928-636-9425 or email any questions you may have...

Let me say that being a janitor is not something you should be ashamed of or think of as a failure. One of our best friends spent 30 years as a janitor and did it admirably. So stop thinking of yourself as a failure! You are not, unless you do less than your best job! It is an honorable and a badly needed occupation! Someone must do it so why not you? My sister and brother-in-law have been doing it for over 25 years and are definitely not thought of by any of us as failures! Change your attitude on that and that will be a beginning.

Now to your problem and to answer your question regarding long term damage with the drugs you are on... The medications you have been on for all these years have fried your brain and you can never expect to improve while you continue any one of them.  Also they are known to create severe sleep disorders as they stop the serotonin production that creates healthy sleep! Also tear down your body as the organs cannot function since the brain is not feeding them the correct signals. You have to detox your whole body and start a brain-building regimen with natural meds that will nourish rather than tear down as pharmaceuticals do! 

First you have to change your foods. You are eating things that load your brain and body with foods without nutrients that compound your problem! With all the carbohydrates you take in daily you can only expect your brain to not function and produce depression and inability to sleep. It is no wonder you have halitosis as you are getting no nutrients to neutralize the odors in your stomach, throat or mouth!!!!

If you truly want help we can do it but only if you are willing to make a huge lifestyle change. That has nothing to do with your work. 

First get rid of those Pepsi's 1 a month might be tolerated but six a day is absolutely setting up your liver, kidneys, pancreas and other organs for failure in the future and at the moment contributing to your mental state. People who drink that many sodas have emotional, mental and physical problems in time. Since you are already at the emotional and mental phase your body is the next to go... Depending on how long your body can take the abuse as to when it will totally break down. Go with green tea drinks and filtered/purified water to replace the Pepsi. I like Green Tea with lemon and they do bottle it. I like fresh and make up a gallon of green tea at a time and sweeten it with 1/4 cup of honey 1/4 cup of Organic Blue Agave, mix lemon to my taste and keep it in the fridge. My son drinks it iced without lemon, but I prefer it hot. I  have my own fast drink. Or buy green tea bottled except for bottled/canned Arizona Brand green tea is not recommended as it has too many additives you don't need. Yes, it will take getting use to the difference in taste but it's the only way you can begin to repair.  With this simple change your taste buds are going to change and you will desire more healthy foods as well...

Here is what Dr. Garland does for his patients with mental short falls and within weeks find themselves in a whole new world emotionally as well as physically.

Step 1) Detox is imperative for the brain to start to heal and the electrical impulses and chemicals to balance out and get through where they need to go.  Detoxing will be impossible to achieve while taking your prescribed drugs and I do not want you to stop them all at once as it takes weaning and managing. You cannot stop them until you have something to replace them also... [Those replacements are below.] We have set up online a 7-day detoxing plan for you to view. Step2) Must get the chemicals balanced in your brain. Those chemicals are nothing more than minerals and so many mental problems straighten out with just this one step but I doubt you will be one of those as you have been on too many meds that shut down and interrupt too many areas of the brain. Conventional medical stupidity when working with the brain. To balance those chemicals will require a balanced minerals complex that will spread the electrical charges throughout your brain so it can distribute the signals the rest of your body needs. LIFE TRANSFUSION IONIC LIQUID MINERALS is the only one I know of that is ionic and immediately absorbable and if you do nothing else for yourself will start them immediately.  Colloidal minerals are not very absorbable and do not conduct the electrical impulses your brain requires. You will need to start with 1/2 teaspoon three times a day, or night since you work nights. Week one: 1/2 teaspoon in 6 to 8 ounces of either carrot, tomato or V8 vegetable juice. First one when you get up, the second one 3 hours later and the third one 4 hours later but at least 5 hours before going to bed. Week two: 3/4 teaspoon in 6 to 8 ounces of either carrot, tomato or V8 vegetable juice. Week three and thereafter: 1 teaspoon in 6 to 8 ounces of either carrot, tomato or V8 vegetable juice. First one when you get up,  the second one 3 hours later and the third one should be kept at 3/4 teaspoon 4 hours later but at least 5 hours before going to bed. So you will have to judge the times you take it...

Step 3) a host of brain repairing herbs and nutrients that Dr. Garland along with the University of Shanghai Institute of Health put together that keeps the brain working as it should and helps repair brain damaged areas caused by the mental instability. Step 6) Report in weekly so changes, if needed, can be made and you are not struggling alone!

This may sound daunting to you but once you start utilizing it you will find you will be so much happier, easier to think and comprehend. 

As to chronic Halitosis:

First, here is the medical suspected reasons for chronic halitosis then I will tell you what we have found in alternative medicine. [In most cases (85–90%), bad breath originates in the mouth itself. The intensity of bad breath differs during the day, due to eating certain foods (such as garlic, onions, meat, fish, and cheese), obesity, smoking, and alcohol consumption.  Because the mouth is exposed to less oxygen and is inactive during the night, the odor is usually worse upon awakening ("morning breath"). [Mental health issues are known to be chronic oxygen imbalances as the brain cannot get sufficient oxygen flow that will make bad breath far worse!] Bad breath may be transient, often disappearing following eating, brushing one's teeth, flossing, or rinsing with specialized mouthwash. Bad breath may also be persistent (chronic bad breath), which is a more serious condition, affecting some 25% of the population in varying degrees. It can negatively affect the individual's personal, social, and business relationships, leading to poor self-esteem and increased stress. The second major source of bad breath is the nose. In this instance, the air exiting the nostrils has a pungent odor which differs from the oral odor. Nasal odor may be due to sinus infections or foreign bodies. Putrefaction from the tonsils is generally considered a minor cause of bad breath, contributing to some 3-5% of cases. Approximately 7% of the population suffer from small bits of calcified matter in tonsillar crypts called tonsilloliths that smell extremely foul when released and can cause bad breath.] 

Alternative health adds one more reason; chronic imbalances in minerals and nutrients along with stress can create chronic halitosis! Conventional medicine sort of says that same thing with the following statement; [There are over 600 types of bacteria found in the average mouth. Several dozen of these can produce high levels of foul odors when incubated in the laboratory. The odors are produced mainly due to the anaerobic breakdown of proteins into individual amino acids, followed by the further breakdown of certain amino acids to produce detectable foul gases. For example, the breakdown of cysteine and methionine produce hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan respectively. Volatile sulfur compounds have been shown to be statistically associated with oral malodor levels, and usually decrease following successful treatment.]
Those breakdowns can all be attributed to body imbalances, which the body requires to rid the body of those bacteria/toxins! If you have had your tonsils out this will produce an imbalance that doesn’t let the body neutralize odors more often than those with tonsils!

More than $24 billion in national health care costs could be saved, according to a new study, if key U.S. populations would make appropriate use of select dietary supplements. 

The study, conducted by the Lewin Group for the Dietary Supplement Education Alliance, estimated potential cost savings that could result from daily use of certain "supplements for which the highest standard of evidence exists at this time, and for which the Food and Drug Administration has approved health claims." Lewin Group analysts combed Internet and print journals for information and research about each supplement's efficacy, then plugged results into a peer-reviewed model to estimate cost savings. 

For example, if people on Medicare used calcium and vitamin D supplements appropriately, they could avoid 776,000 hip fractures over five years, resulting in $16.1 billion in savings. If one-fourth of American women of childbearing age began supplementing their diets correctly with folic acid, neural-tube defects could be prevented in hundreds of newborns, saving as much as $1.4 billion in five years. And daily omega-3 supplementation could save $3.2 billion by reducing coronary heart disease.

ENJOYING WHAT YOU DO

Plato said that work should be play. Some airline employees are taking him seriously. After landing, one flight attendant announced, "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride." (I like the honest approach.)

As a plane touched down and was slowing to a stop in Washington, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella. WHOA!" (Who says you can't have fun with your job?)

One pilot made this weather announcement: "Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but they'll try to have them fixed before we arrive."

"As you exit the plane," a flight attendant said, "please make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses."

And passengers reported that they heard this from the crew just as they began to exit: "Last one off the plane must clean it."

To enjoy your work more, I think it helps to put some play in what you do. And if you don't like your work, can you find something to do you enjoy more?
