"SIXTY PERCENT of the population are mineral and vitamin deficient!" Sadly in this day there are a great deal of people missing out on certain necessary vitamins and minerals, even though they think they are eating healthy!  This is frustrating with so many overweight and obese people! Of course drinking all those sugar laden drinks isn't helping and is depleting the system even more. Taking prescription medications also depletes the body making for a lot of malnourished people!

"Cells that have insufficient minerals and vitamins look exactly like those attacked by radiation. Cells lacking sufficient minerals and vitamins suffer severe DNA and mitochondrial damage, causing premature aging, cancer and degenerative diseases," according to researcher Bruce Ames and his group at the University of California, Berkley. Ames and his group also came to the conclusion that a minimum of 60% of the population are mineral and vitamin deficient!

We know that vegetarians live at least 8 years longer than carnivores as that has been established with an ongoing Southern California study for more than 40 years now, which continues following the lifestyles and habits of several thousand individuals both carnivores (meat eaters) and vegetarians and the stats on that study hasn't varied an inch since the first ten years. 

Several individuals that I am acquainted with as well as a very good friend have been in the study for more than thirty years and continuing. That study will be a lifetime study as long as the last individual taking part lives. 

My friend has been vegetarian since he was five years old,  is now in his mid 80's and can outwalk, outthink and definitely memorize and retain more than anyone I know. When he was 37 he went back to San Diego State for his Masters degree and joined the swim team. He swam circles around the rest of the team (All in their late teens and early twenties.) to their amazement. They could not figure out how a vegetarian could outperform them and how he had a far better lung capacity than any of them. They believed you had to eat meat and lots of protein to be an athlete. That question has since been answered by the Southern California study. Which has shown that vegetarians not only live longer but have better lung capacity, stronger hearts and less strokes and heart attacks than non vegetarians. There are people out there who will try to tell you different because they can't give up being carnivores and want us to join them. 

Sadly that vegetarian friend - who happens to be one of those in the study mentioned above - was the victim of Colon cancer in 2004. He had one flaw in his healthy living that he didn't count on. He had always felt and the doctors monitoring the study have said that a healthy varied diet furnishes all the nutrients necessary to keep a person healthy. It is now a known fact that colon cancer has been linked to a deficiency of the minerals magnesium, zinc and calcium known to create and atmosphere for colon cancer… If you are missing those minerals you can bet you are missing many more!

Even though our body can manufacture certain vitamins when given the proper foods but it cannot manufacture a single mineral. Hence the necessity of supplementing minerals for our body. Luckily my friend's cancer was caught early and he is free of cancer at this time but continuing a path that leaves him open again as his physician still does not recognized that a mineral insufficiency can be responsible for the cancer and my friend is of the same opinion of the majority of people who believe that; "doctor knows best".

The lack of nutrients in the foods we eat, no matter how healthy the food, sets us all up for fat bellies as well as a lot of illnesses and cancer. That mineral fact was known in 1936 and has not improved even though the farmers added fertilizers to their crops. How many nutrients we miss in our diets is an unknown factor as each of us eat differently. My friend, on the other hand, has one of the best diets anyone could imagine. Heavy in fruits, vegetable, grains and nuts spaced at proper intervals and still he ended up with colon cancer as have several others in the study. The only viable prevention is to make sure you are getting sufficient nutrients. The most effective supplement should be a sea based mineral complex containing all 84 minerals and trace minerals that our blood requires to absorb other nutrients while strengthening every organ in the body. Next should be a mega nutrient enriched vitamin complex that contains the antioxidants necessary to knock those free radicals out of the system while preventing them from forming.
