Osteoporosis – softening
of the bones - is touted to improve if you eat a good diet and take certain bone
strengthening drugs… Truth is; Foods do not contain the necessary nutrients to
reverse weak bones! Also, so-called bone building drugs make the bones weaker!
Many – actually most -
doctors are listening to the drug industry and using the old argument of,
medication and eating correctly will take care of osteoporosis. True,
If you eat a completely organic natural, primarily vegetarian diet;
If your food is raised on
fully organically enriched soil;
If you never skip meals;
If you’re under no stress, your needs will be met.
AND IF you have no illnesses then, maybe, your nutritional bases
are pretty well covered.
Who does all that day
in and day out?
Those are a lot of
“ifs,” and you’re one in a million if you can honestly say these all apply to
you. Only about 1% or less of people are disciplined enough to do every one of
those things consistently!
FACT:
No matter how good your diet, you should take nutritional supplements for extra
support. Start with a high-potency daily balanced minerals and multivitamin
supplement. And don’t forget that calcium isn’t the only nutrient needed for
strong healthy bones. Other bone-building nutrients include vitamin K,
magnesium, boron, and soy isoflavones.
Another roll the
conventional doctor’s have fallen into is prescribing the current so-called bone
strengtheners… Do they really strengthen bones?
Recent studies - I've
published many of those in my newsletter in the past - have linked the
supposedly Osteoporosis prevention drugs to osteonecrosis of the jaw, an
incurable condition where the jaw bone actually dies and femur weaken and
break...
HOW?
WHY?
Your bones keep renewing
themselves throughout your life, with older weaker bone cells being replaced by
younger stronger ones. This happens when specials cells called osteoclasts
and osteoblasts interact properly and only when given the cell/bone
building properties necessary for that healthy rebuilding process. The process;
osteoclasts break down old bone and remove it then the osteoblasts build new
bone in its place.
Bisphosphonate drugs – Fosamax, Boniva and other osteoporosis drugs - work by
disabling the osteoclasts so that they stop breaking down your
old bone. BUT the drug does nothing to build new bone! That leaves old dead bone
in place so even though your bones become denser, that density is made up of
old, weak, brittle bone tissue that is dead, not strong new healthy bone!
Some 2,400 people that we know about have developed the devastating jaw
condition and many are suing the drug companies. In response, one of the drug
companies issued a press release saying that these cases, "do not necessarily
indicate causality."
Oh really? There goes that
pharmaceutical jargon again!
FACT:
Vitamin D is also very important to bone health. It’s required for proper
absorption of calcium in the gut and for bone mineralization and remodeling.
Unfortunately, most of us don’t get nearly enough of this crucial vitamin.
International experts estimate that half of the world’s population has a
severe vitamin D deficiency. If in doubt as to whether you get enough vitamin D?
You can have your blood levels tested and aim to obtain and maintain a level in
the 50–70 ng/mL range. As a general rule, It is said for the healthy person
2,000–5,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily works for most people but for those who sit
in front of a desk under artificial light daily, eat processed and fast foods
several times a week that 6,000 to 10,000 is better.
FACT:
ANY weight-bearing exercise that
includes dancing or walking, helps to maintain bone strength. These activities
slows us down and keeps us earthbound. While breaking down and initiating the
rebuilding of bone cells, it strengthens our bones. Without the fight against
gravity (as in space flight or, less dramatically, prolonged bed rest or
inactivity), bones soften and old bone is not removed enough to rebuild new
bone.
Studies show that an exercise program can increase bone mass by 5–10
percent, even more in those with low bone mass (osteoporosis) to begin
with. Regardless of age, people who engage in regular weight-bearing exercise
have higher bone density. The necessity to achieve that goal is regularity in
exercising. Bone and muscle strength are built and maintained over time, so you
need to make two or three weight-bearing sessions part of your weekly routine.
Another significant, and
often overlooked, contributing factor in osteoporosis is the loss of skeletal
muscle, which typically accelerates with age. We don’t notice it because it
usually starts in the muscles we use least often: those involved in sprinting
and heavy lifting. In addition, many of us gain weight as we age, so muscle
atrophy is hidden behind those extra pounds of fat. Being overweight by more
than 10 to 15 lbs sets you up for osteoporosis!
FACT:
The bottom line is that when it comes to maintaining strong, healthy bones there
is no “magic pill” that can keep you healthy. It takes a combination of the
right foods, nutritional supplements, and regular daily exercise will not only
lead to strong bones, but to optimal health as well.
